great to have housing...free housing...free medicare...give everyone all they need..I am 100% in favour of that. But the world is not a nice place and a strong military led by a democratic governement is important. It should not replace our attempts to provide for decent social care...but lets not be naive to think that decreasing the military will automatically improve our social programs.
@stanforall The U.S. government spends $1 TRILLION on the military. Are you even aware of how much money that is? It's not a strong military. It's a killing machine for the Powers That Be, and they're not out there killing for you and me and to protect our democracy. They're out there killing because they want to make money making and selling the weapons, then using them to kill locals in other countries, but also to make money by stealing the resources. That's not democracy. It's murder.
to the comment about housing and war not being connected...i believe that the key message here is to criticize the way the government choses to spend its money - billions on war, instead of billions on fighting poverty. It is about priorities...
actually canada was promised a share of the booty from the loot
(five trillion cubic meter of gas reserves, uranium reserves, gold reserves in addtion to much more un explored resources as estimated by soviets...that would make hundreds of trillions of dollars worth plus the business growth cause of those installations)...the share would be like (supposedly) if canada spends 100 billions then canada would get one trillion or something...but just forget it...uncle sam not gonna give u that!
is there any politician willing to be homeless and poor as wallstreet jacks the costs of life high as fuck to help your country from whatever!? nah didn't think so! but its fine as long as its not you though!
This is an excellent video. But there is a major flaw in the premise behind Housing Not War. There is no direct connection between the war in Afghanistan and lack of funding for housing and homelessness. The affordable housing crisis pre-dates Canada's deployment to Afghanistan. Of course the war is wrong. Bring the troops home now! There is no means to ensure when that happens that funding will be redirected to housing. Blaming homelessness on the war is a disservice to the homeless.
This excellent video documents the hard truth about successive Canadian governments' gutting vitally needed social housing and relates it to the immoral spending of billions of Canadians' tax dollars on military to support the corrupt government in Afghanistan (and Bush led United States militarism) in a war that is devestating the Afghani people. Its message is hard hitting and indisputable.
A lot of people today are dreaming to have their own home and yet Government spending billions of dollars for war.
