So the Mini USB to USB cable that provides power, could be plugged into your PC so you can chat on Skype while still hearing game volume on the Xbox/PS3 like normal?
I honestly like my mixamp with the a40's, but i would actually prefer in line controls saying that astro gaming should make a dedicated headset for xbox/ps3.
yo steggy are there plug ins like plugs to put in the holes of the covers on the side cuz if they dont idk if i wanna get a 2011 or 2012 you be the judge?
Bare with me. I want to buy this for my boyfriend's birthday so I'm not sure about the technicality side of the headphones. Anyways, I was wondering whether the quality to both the wired and the wireless are different. Is one better than the other? Also, if the headphones ran out of batteries, can one link it back directly to the mixamp and use it like a pair of wired headphones? But without the need for batteries?
Like I said I'm a tech noob and this is for my boyfriend!
I mainly use PS3 for gaming. Sometimes PC. I don't own X-Box. I've watched and read MANY reviews on wireless headsets, including the Sony PS3 7.1 Wireless Headset, Turtle Beach PX5, and Astro A40. At the moment, the choice is between the latter two. I could really use some advice from someone who has used both.
Nice i needed this im not a pro but i play a lot of cod. Are these worth it if i want a surround sound set to rock for a year or should i go for x41's
Whats up Steggy, Question.... I already have the A40s but yet i am considering getting the A30s because i am getting more into mobile gaming now, would i be worth getting the A30s or is there any other headset you would recommend. Would appreciate if you or someone else replied :)
@ThRoostr A30's are a very versatile headset. You can use them for gaming when you travel, and they're great for every day use out on the town, listening to music/taking calls on your smartphone.
@ShinCZ They do include the Y adapter when you buy the mixamp by itself. I guess they figure "you just bought the a40...why do you need that adapter too" haha
Guys, to be clear, this isn't some announced upgrade like the ear pad/mic redesign that astro did for the A40's. There have been minor changes to what's included in the packaging and some features on the product. This isn't necessarily the be all 2012 A40, they might have changes occurring later this year, who knows. Just saying to avoid any confusion.
Whats good about the update; Improvements, includes optical cable. Whats bad about the update: No more 3 speakertags, no more foam inserts (they can help at home, I cant speak from LAN experience as I havent gone to one,) and most importantly in my eyes; no case. I loved the fact the the A40s came with a case, now you have to spend extra to get something you should be getting anyways.
@NotSoFailuyr Pros: Newer mixamp with improved optical door/2.5mm to 2.5mm cable, A40 has inline microphone built in, included optical cable. Cons: No foam inserts, no case. So it's somewhat evened out, but I will agree, I love the A40 case.
Great vid but why would you not want to go wireless?,I'm just glad I got mine last year with the carrying case and you can use any optical cable which you can get cheap
@Maasusthefrozen Erm, if you're using RCA to get the audio from your system, you aren't going to get virtual surround sound at all. You need the optical for that. As for your other problems, have you tried contacting astro at all so they can repair your system?
The connection thing on the cables was bent when I got the headset (only a little – but still) and finally, the surround sound works poorly. When turning it on it takes me several attempts since the button is SO bad, when it’s on I have to turn up the volume to a level where the background noise gets unbearable, this in order to hear anything since the 7.1 function lowers the sound significantly.
I have the RCA cables connected the wrong way (white in red – red in white) so that the sound is played back in the right cup (I've checked that I have the headset on the right way). The mic is worth s*** and my friends are always asking “I thought u had a pro headset?” – My voice goes from low to high and back down again (my friend had a 20€ headset and his mic was a hundred times better (I’ve tried recording using several programs)).
I have the Astro A40 2010/2011 (with MIXAMP) edition and I'm VERY disappointed. I'm using RCA cables and get tons of background noise, the game/voice wheel works poorly, when changing volume the sound disappears from either the right or the left side and is only played back on the other until I change the volume again, which fixed the problem temporally.
@MrHutmat If you order now, what I've unboxed is what you'll get. This isn't necessarily THE 2012 version. This is the current version that's running right now in 2012 since late 2011.
If you look at the accessories on the website and go to the foam inserts that were included in 2011 edition, it says the new ear pads are designed to reduce more outside sound to eliminate the need for the foam inserts
Why did they have to stop including all the extras?!?! I get they included an optical cable. But think about it, an extra speaker tag + carrying case+ foam inserts = a lot more than a optical cable. When you buy astro your buying premium. The best of the best. That feeling is slowly going away for me. Hopefully they don't start to decrease the quality of the actual headset :p
@loganmo12345 because they only give you what you need. and taking away what you dont need. basically, the case, speaker tag's and foam inserts where just a free bonus they where giving out. they stopped giving them away half way through 2011.
I wish the astro mixamp was a USB DAC or atleast was a headphone amp so it could support higher OHM headphones should a user want because it looks way better than most amps
@Ri1seAgainst It actually is a DAC. You can use the optical out of your computer or USB (I believe...it's been a while ha) to go into the mixamp, and it will DAC to your headset or headphone. I do this because the shielding in my Antec 900's case is bad, so if I use the front I/O ports I get a ton of interference. I use the mixamp as a DAC.
@nick91ace The 2.5mm to 2.5mm is the second new thing for the mixamp. It not longer has the ferrite choke block on it. A lot of people were having issues with those 2.5mm to 2.5mm cables, now they won't have those issues with that new design.
@VoiD1x never heard the a40s, but i'll take yours and virtually everybody elses word for it. i have heard the hpa2's and i can confirm that the ad700s pissed on them in every category but bass.
@ratedtriplex yep , ad700's shit over any gaming headset out. Gaming headsets are basically shitty headphones with a mic slapped on. no thanks . ad700's for me.
@weldstone Hey thanks for the reply. One more question if you're game. Do you plug that zalman into your xbox controller? Or do you have an a40? Or are you pc. I have an xbox and I'm looking for a mic to use with my studio headphones that I can plug directly into the xbox controller. Thanks.
@jcrow62 i plug it all into the mixamp..mine came with the cable where you can plug any mic plus headphone into the mixamp. so my ad700 goes into the mic hole and the mic goes into the mic hole :) the cable is the opposite to the 1 shown at 3.06 time go to astrogaming then accessories/mix-amp-5-8/3rd-party-headset-y-adapter-pkg-d but again mine came with this cable.
So basically if you got the 2011 edition one your better off with that one as opposed to this because this comes with less components and doesn't improve the sound quality whatsoever..
@EmOtiiONL3ss Some slimming isn't bad. I actually like the decision to take out the PC quick disconnect cable and just use an adapter instead. And the sound is the same, but you do have the inline microphone now, and the newer mixamp.
