  • So the Mini USB to USB cable that provides power, could be plugged into your PC so you can chat on Skype while still hearing game volume on the Xbox/PS3 like normal?

  • You should do u sound test for console,pc, and music.

  • Do these still use 40mm drivers?

  • how about for ps3?

  • I honestly like my mixamp with the a40's, but i would actually prefer in line controls saying that astro gaming should make a dedicated headset for xbox/ps3.

  • Does the mixamp require batteries

  • Review?

  • Hey Steggy.

ASTRO A40 or AD700 to competitive in LAN's?

  • I love how they added the opticle cable smart idea plus the new package is awsome to!! im now gonna order this headset soon:)

  • I think it's kinda sad that they only provide 2 speaker tags now :/

  • I can't wait for mine to come... Ordered them on Friday :)

  • can you soundwhore in mw3... like really good

  • hey steggy this headphone is better that the ad 700 or not

  • yo steggy are there plug ins like plugs to put in the holes of the covers on the side cuz if they dont idk if i wanna get a 2011 or 2012 you be the judge?

  • @TheEargasmicBeats cuz i wanna use the for my ipod and xbox

  • I mainly use PS3 for gaming. Sometimes PC. I don't own X-Box. I've watched and read MANY reviews on wireless headsets, including the Sony PS3 7.1 Wireless Headset, Turtle Beach PX5, and Astro A40. At the moment, the choice is between the latter two. I could really use some advice from someone who has used both.

  • Steggy i think you should do a review on the sennheiser pc360. I definitely would like to see a in depth review like all your reviews

  • This adapter "Y-ADAPTER ASTRO" is included in the 2012 edition?

    Thanks Steggy ;)

  • Hi, im from UK, im on the website now, is Audio System Package both the headset and mixamp, because it has gone down £30 in price in the last 3days?

  • first

  • Does this version have mic monitoring?

  • New A40's or OLD A40's?

  • Love how you explained and did everything *subscribed*

  • i got the blue bxr wireless edition and really wished i got the wired mixamp. probably gonna buy it soon though

  • Thank you very much for the good clear explaining and neatness of the review, so far the best review of all the astros.

  • Is there a STORE where I can buy this in San Diego?

  • do you not get the hard case for your headset then? shame

  • @MLGSteggy when are you going to get a review on the MLG controller?

  • @FiaskoHD because it comes with different tags

  • @MLGSteggy What is the difference between the MLG edition and the ASTRO edition? because the MLG edition costs more. Thanks

  • does the headphones still need the foam and you have to buy it separately? or they fixed the problem so you dont need it anymore

  • Good video! Thanks

  • @MLGsteggy whats with just 1 mix amp on the site looks like theres 2 pieces to it.

  • Who wouldn't like your videos?..

  • Nice i needed this im not a pro but i play a lot of cod. Are these worth it if i want a surround sound set to rock for a year or should i go for x41's

  • @MRnewvegas1 A40's, definitely.

  • @MLGSteggy r u going 2 be giving a pair of a40 plzz reply atleast consider it :D

  • @MRnewvegas1 they are only simulated surround

  • Whats up Steggy, Question.... I already have the A40s but yet i am considering getting the A30s because i am getting more into mobile gaming now, would i be worth getting the A30s or is there any other headset you would recommend. Would appreciate if you or someone else replied :)

  • @ThRoostr A30's are a very versatile headset. You can use them for gaming when you travel, and they're great for every day use out on the town, listening to music/taking calls on your smartphone.

  • They need to bundle the damn Y cable that allows use of any headset/phone+mic. Great vid again, Steggy.

  • @ShinCZ They do include the Y adapter when you buy the mixamp by itself. I guess they figure "you just bought the a40...why do you need that adapter too" haha

  • @MLGSteggy i have to questions which one is better these or px5 n do these a40 bring the wire required to chat on ps3

  • Great unboxing

  • PC360 is still king....

  • @D3ADCR4P HD595s > PC360.

  • @D3ADCR4P no ad700's top them

  • Guys, to be clear, this isn't some announced upgrade like the ear pad/mic redesign that astro did for the A40's. There have been minor changes to what's included in the packaging and some features on the product. This isn't necessarily the be all 2012 A40, they might have changes occurring later this year, who knows. Just saying to avoid any confusion.

  • BEATS ARE OVERPRICED

    DONT DO IT

  • would you prefer these or the a30s?

  • Set up video! A vide on how to set up the a40 to all platforms

  • Can you a review on the beats studio?

  • Whats good about the update; Improvements, includes optical cable. Whats bad about the update: No more 3 speakertags, no more foam inserts (they can help at home, I cant speak from LAN experience as I havent gone to one,) and most importantly in my eyes; no case. I loved the fact the the A40s came with a case, now you have to spend extra to get something you should be getting anyways.

  • @NotSoFailuyr Pros: Newer mixamp with improved optical door/2.5mm to 2.5mm cable, A40 has inline microphone built in, included optical cable. Cons: No foam inserts, no case. So it's somewhat evened out, but I will agree, I love the A40 case.

  • Great vid but why would you not want to go wireless?,I'm just glad I got mine last year with the carrying case and you can use any optical cable which you can get cheap

  • The wireless version comes with 2 boxes. I got them for Christmas.

  • So... nothing's changed sound quality wise... K got it.

  • Pat 4

AND I’ve only had ONE experience where it’s worth turning it on – on the crysis 2 rooftop server inside an elevator shaft.

Only go with these if you are using coaxial or optical, in this case you will probably get a once in a lifetime experience

  • @Maasusthefrozen Erm, if you're using RCA to get the audio from your system, you aren't going to get virtual surround sound at all. You need the optical for that. As for your other problems, have you tried contacting astro at all so they can repair your system?

  • Part 3

The connection thing on the cables was bent when I got the headset (only a little – but still) and finally, the surround sound works poorly. When turning it on it takes me several attempts since the button is SO bad, when it’s on I have to turn up the volume to a level where the background noise gets unbearable, this in order to hear anything since the 7.1 function lowers the sound significantly.

  • Part 2

I have the RCA cables connected the wrong way (white in red – red in white) so that the sound is played back in the right cup (I've checked that I have the headset on the right way). The mic is worth s*** and my friends are always asking “I thought u had a pro headset?” – My voice goes from low to high and back down again (my friend had a 20€ headset and his mic was a hundred times better (I’ve tried recording using several programs)).

  • Part 1

I have the Astro A40 2010/2011 (with MIXAMP) edition and I'm VERY disappointed. I'm using RCA cables and get tons of background noise, the game/voice wheel works poorly, when changing volume the sound disappears from either the right or the left side and is only played back on the other until I change the volume again, which fixed the problem temporally.

  • no carrying case :(

  • plzzz help... if i order a pair rigth now... will it then be the 2012 or 2011?

  • @MrHutmat If you order now, what I've unboxed is what you'll get. This isn't necessarily THE 2012 version. This is the current version that's running right now in 2012 since late 2011.

  • Yess finally everythinf includes in one box

  • Steggy, will you be doing any reviews on the new turtle beach's eg. X32 & X42 ?

  • @RikkyyxD Stay tuned :)

  • If you look at the accessories on the website and go to the foam inserts that were included in 2011 edition, it says the new ear pads are designed to reduce more outside sound to eliminate the need for the foam inserts

  • 2012? I just got a A40 Wireless system a few days ago. Do I have the "2012"?

  • @setite The A40 and all of astros products changes realy fast, but usualy it is only smal improvments. :)

  • Got the 2011's.. sound good but i saw lots reviews of the ad700's..tbh they blow astros away so get ad700 and the mixamp :)

  • Why did they have to stop including all the extras?!?! I get they included an optical cable. But think about it, an extra speaker tag + carrying case+ foam inserts = a lot more than a optical cable. When you buy astro your buying premium. The best of the best. That feeling is slowly going away for me. Hopefully they don't start to decrease the quality of the actual headset :p

  • @loganmo12345 because they only give you what you need. and taking away what you dont need. basically, the case, speaker tag's and foam inserts where just a free bonus they where giving out. they stopped giving them away half way through 2011.

  • 2011's <3

  • I wish the astro mixamp was a USB DAC or atleast was a headphone amp so it could support higher OHM headphones should a user want because it looks way better than most amps

  • @Ri1seAgainst It actually is a DAC. You can use the optical out of your computer or USB (I believe...it's been a while ha) to go into the mixamp, and it will DAC to your headset or headphone. I do this because the shielding in my Antec 900's case is bad, so if I use the front I/O ports I get a ton of interference. I use the mixamp as a DAC.

  • Would you guys consider the 2011's being better than the 2012's?

  • Hmm, this might mean astro is going to sell at retail stores.

  • @PhillipAwesome We can only hope!

  • You didn't say nothing about the second thing new to the mix amp

  • @nick91ace The 2.5mm to 2.5mm is the second new thing for the mixamp. It not longer has the ferrite choke block on it. A lot of people were having issues with those 2.5mm to 2.5mm cables, now they won't have those issues with that new design.

  • they forgot to give me a standard optical cable. they ended up sending me the premium. its much better

  • ad700's shit all over these

  • @VoiD1x never heard the a40s, but i'll take yours and virtually everybody elses word for it. i have heard the hpa2's and i can confirm that the ad700s pissed on them in every category but bass.

  • @ratedtriplex yep , ad700's shit over any gaming headset out. Gaming headsets are basically shitty headphones with a mic slapped on. no thanks . ad700's for me.

  • @VoiD1x What do you use for a mic with those ad700's?

  • @jcrow62 I use a "Zalman Microphone Zm-Mic1" some say its no good but others say works great..for me it works perfect.

  • @weldstone Hey thanks for the reply. One more question if you're game. Do you plug that zalman into your xbox controller? Or do you have an a40? Or are you pc. I have an xbox and I'm looking for a mic to use with my studio headphones that I can plug directly into the xbox controller. Thanks.

  • @jcrow62 i plug it all into the mixamp..mine came with the cable where you can plug any mic plus headphone into the mixamp. so my ad700 goes into the mic hole and the mic goes into the mic hole :) the cable is the opposite to the 1 shown at 3.06 time go to astrogaming then accessories/mix-amp-5-8/3rd-party-headset-y-adapter-pkg-d but again mine came with this cable.

  • @weldstone woops headphone hole :)

  • @jcrow62 yeah youtube 'ad700 mic mod' pretty simple and awesome idea. Also the zalman clip on mic works great too.

  • i got 1 of these sets in 2011 smh

  • So basically if you got the 2011 edition one your better off with that one as opposed to this because this comes with less components and doesn't improve the sound quality whatsoever..

  • @EmOtiiONL3ss Some slimming isn't bad. I actually like the decision to take out the PC quick disconnect cable and just use an adapter instead. And the sound is the same, but you do have the inline microphone now, and the newer mixamp.

  • I would expect a lot more for that price.

  • Hay steggy give me your old Astros I asked 1st

  • @Mcd419 Because the sound/build/cosmetic quality of the headset is amazing, the mixamp is a marvel with all its adjustments and its really accurate surround sound, and it has one big name and history behind it. I have the 2012 edition, they are absolutely AMAZING I love them! It's never a mistake to get them.

  • The packaging used to be so sexy. Now it's all ugly and plastic

  • Love it where do you get it from I'm from uk thx

    Gamingsigh

  • Please tell me why why why is this soo expensive ????

  • I only realized that it had no carry case when you mentioned it. Quite disappointed that it is no longer included as Astro's cases are quite nice and do help justify their price point and marketed use (i.e LAN travel etc.)

  • best gaming headset ever

  • Sick <3!
