It should be noted that although UAB was the better team that day, Nolan Richardson (Anderson's mentor) was allowes to sit in during Kentucky's practice the day before and helped call out plays to Anderson. He basically, pulled a Patriots on us and told Anderson the plays and our signals.

The Wildcats have never quite been the same since that game, and UAB upstaged Alabama who a day earlier knocked off #1 overall seed Stanford. What a tournament that was for Bama teams. Alabama State from Montgomery also made it that year as the SWAC Champions.

That wasn't Kentucky's year to win it...they were a great defensive team but they clearly didn't have the offensive firepower to win it all...UCONN was much more talented and would have beaten Kentucky if they ran into each other...defense wins championships in the NBA...offense wins championships in NCAA basketball...

I went to a small college in Kentucky where just about everyone loves UK, the day after this game a biology professor walked into class and asked "How bout them Wildcats?" That was so funny!
