To think that it's been five years since I first saw this video that was so important to me that I had to watch it almost every night after shower, so that I could straighten my hair in the morning. This video introduced me to Jason Becker too, so thank you for that.
@fuckfuckinshit Oh dude ya have to give props to Ed, Via, and Satch as well. Your list is right! Those guys are the Insanely Proficient Freaks that almost make ya shit ya pants with joy when ya hear them. Yet ask Messrs becker gilbert buckethead malmsteen and petrucci who influenced them the most and those 3 names will come up.
I just went on ebay and typed in Buckethead. theres 1 album on there for $89.43 with 12 bids. And its a recent one. I typed in Satriani, Vai and Malmsteen and theres thousands of their albums some for 97 cents. I went down pages of them and not 1 single album had 1 single bid. That my friends is the difference between corporate sellout and underground icon.
@Mgopro I do think he's a little over-rated but if you really pay attention to all of his music rather than just the popular ones, he really is amazing...
Well, the whole point of "Music" is to listen, but there was obviously too many Guitar/Rock/Metal Gods to fit in this one video. So Satan (Who we will call Rap just because it's major garbage these days, well........might as well say all music, so we'll say Satan is "Todays Music") got pissed and seized the sound.
agreed. i think shawn lane deserves a mention. too. every professional guitarist that has ever mentioned shawn lane made it sound like they thought he was the greatest guitarist ever (he probably was). i heard steve vai even stopped one of his concerts for a while just to get video footage of shawn lane.
yeah, and sadly there are some great ones that don't get a lot of attention or get dissed for the wrong reasons. rofl i find this conversation very ironic because there was this dude trying to argue that jimmy page destroyed shawn lane and we were getting in this pointless giant argument about it. who is better is always based on what you think is good, it will always be a matter of opinion. i think that argument taught me how stupid it is to get into arguments like that.
@Fluffypopcicle That's right. It's art. Listen to what you like, don't argue about who is better. The only thing to judge them on is their character, and people like Shawn Lane or Jimmy Page are so dedicated to their art, that is character.
Guys, Buckethead is in my opinion the best. The reason is, he can do it all, soft melodies like White wash, Padmasana, songs like that. Then he can solo really good, Soothsayer, Jordan, Nottingham Lace, things like that. He can also play bass. Plus his character is lovable. People saying he can only solo is just plain stupid. You need to do more research dude. But for me, Buckethead is my guitar idol, that's just my opinion.
i should be on this video. i am the best uitarist ever...and im not trying to be cockey or funny....im completly serious. Ima be huge one day, and your gunna be like....oh shit, we shoulda listened to that deannearsonist.
New music sucks. Stuff like Floods is great and check out a song by Pantera called A New Level. Actually, listen to A Vulgar Display Of Power. Yep, the whole album. Then if you don't like it, I'll find you, reach down your throat, and pull a rabbit, out your fuckin' ass.
(All props to The Darkness for that line.)
But I dare you to get on here and say ANY Pantera album sucks.
but theyre are some new bands (Very very very few) who actually have talent and potential to succeed but stupid pop songs and rap songs have taken over the majority of the music community
@PinknessOfFloyd Yeah cause your opinion counts more than others, you know what stfu already man, your not better than no one here nor me, so stop acting like your opinions are better than any ones.
Dangazm i hope you grow up and get a good taste in music thus for real music some time but even if you dont..hey who cares listen to your meshuga or whatever mesiah you want.but dont say jimi is not a real guitar player ,you must be retarded at best
Hendrix doesn't even come close to these guys. Good list. Just cause some of you guys like some of Hendrix's songs, doesn't make him a guitar God. He wouldn't be able to play what a lot of these guys here can. He would only be able to play his unpleasant druggie chords and sing with his stoned voice.
wtf are you talking about!?!? THEYRE FUCKING GREAT! theyre gods of the guitar, an inspiration to many of the guitarists you might think are better than them.
go fuck your dead great great grandma just for saying that you cunt
Nope. My favorites were inspired by real guitarists. Maybe a bit of Hendrix, but none o' this Dimebag or Van Halen shit you've all been spoon-fed. There are better, real guitar players out there, man.
Oh I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that Van Halen wasn't a "real" band. You can name ANY metal band, past or present, and I guarantee you that all of them worship Eddie Van Halen. It was Eddie that changed the way the guitar is played today. You may not like his style and that is your opinion. But give him the respect that he deserves. Without EVH, you wouldn't have over half of the current metal that is out there today.
Actually i think everyone would owe their sucess to rooting back to black america blues. and most likely Les paul himself. Yes, Van Halen is good, but I hate how everyone says that "Eruption" was his best guitar solo. That solo was shit!!! All he did was play randomly altered scales... None of it followed through. I know, I know "Eruption" it's supposed to sound like an eruption of different things, but still... In my opinion, that wasn't anything but random stuff. Still, respect to EVH. that steve vai peice was terrible and dime ha so many solos that are much much better than walk not to mention that pretty much every single thing paul has ever played sounds better that drill thing plus most of these werent even of the best quality
wow only a nub would say that Buckethead is a lot better than slash...they are about equal...neither are like super guitar gods or anything..i mean yea they sound good but buckethead just plays scales quickly(mostly the same ones) and slash just plays with alot of distortion and stuff i mean steve vai fucking rapes both of them and malmsteen is classical greatness... i know like 20 peopel who can play buckethead its not that hard just fast i can play the beggining of jordan i learnd in 25 min

wow only a nub would say that Buckethead is a lot better than slash...they are about equal...neither are like super guitar gods or anything..i mean yea they sound good but buckethead just plays scales quickly(mostly the same ones) and slash just plays with alot of distortion and stuff i mean steve vai fucking rapes both of them and malmsteen is classical greatness... i know like 20 peopel who can play buckethead its not that hard just fast i can play the beggining of jordan i learnd in 25 min

The most monstrous, idiotic a selection. When you learn to distinguish guitar legends, virtuosoes and Gods? I am afraid - never.

This list is lacking Frank Zappa and Shawn Lane...
