my playback control, mine has no options the the top, only if i right click the speaker icon i can get my properties up, but when i unmute the microphone the headphones just gain a high pitched squeeling noise and it only goes off if i mute microphone again.

do you think the microphone is just..broke?

It could be that your mic is bad or that the gain is turned up to high, you should run the sound setup wizard and test it that way.

Hi, I did everything you said until I came up to the last step when you said hit "Apply"...The Apply tab for some reason was greyed out and I couldn't click that tab. I can hear through my headset and when I talk but when I try to talk in Skype, I loose my mic. Can you offer any other suggestions?

Finding the adjustment for the mic can be difficult at times.try using the windows sound recorder to see if your mic is wo5rking.

It could be a few other reasons for it not working, Make sure your speakers work in a different PC, make sure they are plugged into the right jack, It could be the power supply on your speakers that is bad.

Go into device manager and try to update the driver. Right click on "My Computer" choose properties, Click on Hardware tab then device manager. go down to sound devices, it should have an exclamation mark on it.  right click on the sound device and choose to update driver

nothing in your sound control panel should be muted, If your cam is USB, try unplugging it, Uninstall the hardware device in "Device Manager" then uninstall the software. Restart the pc, reinstall the software, then plug the cam back in.

LOL, I didn't even think about that, If your sound is broke you can't here how to fix it..

Right click on "My Computer" choose "Properties" click on "hardware tab" "device Manager" go down to sound devices and click on the plus sign next to it to open it up.

Right click on all of the devices and choose update driver on the ones that are available. see if that helps. let me know...

You have to be quick when you do this you only have a few seconds wehen you first turn it on.

Press and hold the F1 key for a few seconds to open the BIOS Setup. Press the F5 key, use the left and right arrow keys to choose YES, and then press Enter to load the BIOS defaults. Press the F10 key, use the left and right arrow keys to choose YES, and then press Enter to exit the BIOS Setup and save the changes. Press Enter to confirm the save.

Try this:

1. In Control Panel, double-click Sounds and Audio Devices.

2. On the Voice tab, under Voice Playback, click Advanced.

3. On the Performance tab, move the Hardware Acceleration slider over to the right side.

It is hard to say what is your sound problem without looking at your pc, If you want I can connect to you using the logmein program that I made a video for, As for WMM and x's that happens when the original file used to import has been moved or renamed, right click on the x's and choose to find missing data.

Open Windows media player and get a song playing, Then try plugging your speakers into the different ports until you hear music. If your ports are color coded it would be the green one for speakers and pink for mic.
