For one revs are great but sometimes are over rated. Another point is that seriously accurate factory tach in the car, come on. Still neat that it revs to hell but with that tach who knows the real reading. Yes, the S2K is an amazing little motor. And like I mentioned before it makes that power by spinning itsself to high RPMS. 9 thousand bone stock. It also makes that power by engineering a great flowing head and intake. But the potential to make more power will always be there with a larger cylinder.

You should know that Lamborghini was an affiliated company of Chrysler. The Viper V10 originally was a truck engine developed for Dodge Trucks, then Chrysler gave it to Lamborghini to make it race car suitable. Europeans didn't build it but without Lamborghini you couldn't use the V10 for a race/sports car.

The might of a 2008 SRT10 viper cannot be matched stock for stock by any car. Sure it only revs to 6100(not 5800) but it doesnt need anything passed that, 600bhp 580 lbs of torque is enough for that beast.
They are about high revs because its a smaller NA engine and that is about the only way to get power out of the engine, compression and revs are the only way your gonna get power out of NA thats just how it is, unless you start to up the displacement, at least they are Japanese cars down right and not all riced out, people with Cobra Stangs rev them out to 8k and that is plenty for the size of the engine, US cars just for the most part use bigger engines so u don't need 10K+ revs

Building high revving engines such as the previously allowed Formula One engines that revved to 20,000 RPM+ are very technically challenging to engineer since the stress on the engine rises exponentially upon higher RPMs. It is far easier to build heavier engines with big displacement and low engine speed at the cost of neutrality and predictability of the chassis under stress.

4 cyl engines have never been the forte of american car manufacturers, because they have specialized in v8's. but that is also why your comment about them being unreliable is extremely enducated and follows an old myth created in the 80's when the major pollution laws came out and dirastic changes had to come to all the large engine, hense created 4 cyl cars like the tempo, which were rushed out of production to meet new emission standards. But today, american cars offer excellent reliability.

you need to understand how mechanics works before you start talking like that. as much as honda makes 4 cyl engines with good hp per litre, you need to understand that the smaller the engine the easier it is to accomplish that. That is why 2 cyl engine produce even better hp per litre than honda's 4 cyls. the reason for this is the bigger the engine, the heavier the pistons, the crank, the flywheel, the geares, the differential, etc etc. Heavier parts = more lost power.
But also from a realistic sense, american engines have been rated as the best in the world many more times than japanese engines. There is a reason why the 2 fastest production track cars in the world are American, and they both hold far more proven reliability than any japanese contender. Not saying japs don't make good cars, but you should let go of the old myth that american cars are trash. They have improvement immensely, and have always made some of the funnest cars ever driven.
Reliability does not come from HP per liter. New American cars are on par in reliability as Japanese cars. Also, Japanese cars aren't as reliable as you may think. I had a 98 Honda Accord whose transmission went out at 38k miles, then at 65k. The same problem existed on the Acuras. This was an engineering mistake Honda will never admit to. NO car company is flawless...

For one revs are great but sometimes are over rated. Another point is that seriously accurate factory tach in the car, come on. Still neat that it revs to hell but with that tach who knows the real reading. I am definately NO fan of hondas and really dont get the love for these nasty looking things but wth to each his own i guess. But honestly who would waste money on a car like that?? If you must have jap go with nissan, toy, mazda, or even mits all which make REAL perf cars.

touge racing isnt supposed to shift a redline.
downshifting causes the engine o overrev too much.
hiding away a couple rpms also gives your opponents unexpected power from ur car for when you pass them at the last straightaways.
keeping in between the cars power band is another reason o shift earlier. the closer you are to power band, the easier it is to gain traction.

I wouldn't say Vipers suck. But as far as who makes a better engine, I'd go with Ferrari or Honda because they don't need to increase displacement to increase power unlike American automakers. Just look at the F430 Scuderia, they increased power without touching the displacement. In the end, its just better engineering.

It only had a 1.6 L engine but it slill knocked out 202 BHP Standard factory figure. An RX7 FD3S 1300CC Rotary and kicks out 285 BHP. Big cylinders dont mean shit! You can build a Civic with its 1.6L vtec and set it up to out corner &out brake a V8. END RESULT A LITTLE WEAPON FOR THE TRACK. Ive seen AE86 Corollas out drift & pullaway from Stangs!

Yes, the S2K is an amazing little motor. And like I mentioned before it makes that power by spinning itsself to high RPMS. 9 thousand bone stock. It also makes that power by engineering a great flowing head and intake. But the potential to make more power will always be there with a larger cylinder.

yes, I'm quite familiar with top gear. And we have a program called MOTOR TREND. Where they put the ZR1 vs the GTR vs the Ferrari. And the ZR1 was quite faster in the quarter mile, quite faster through the SLALOM and put better numbers on the skidpad.
The ZR1 is the superior car. Drivers are drivers but grip numbers don't lie.

You should know that Lamborghini was an affiliated company of Chrysler. The Viper V10 originally was a truck engine developed for Dodge Trucks, then Chrysler gave it to Lamborghini to make it race car suitable. Europeans didn't build it but without Lamborghini you couldn't use the V10 for a race/sports car.
Btw: The Nürburgring track record now goes to a German car again. It has an engine HALF the size of your Vipers V10...

...last i checked when america started having economical problems it affected the rest of the civilized world. Last i checked high reving motors is a different way to build a motor, american motors can produce more torque and power safely. Different direction when building cars, and last i checked all of Chevy's cars posted top times in their respective classes in the nurbergring. Gumpert Apollo with a time of 7:11,57, made on 13. august of 2009. Besides that, there are other street legal cars close to this time. Porsches from Edo Competition for example. Four years ago, Patrick Simon made a time of 7.15,63 with a Porsche 911 GT2 Edo Competition (German Wikipedia Version --> Patrick Simon). This car is absolutely street legal, equipped with street legal Pirelli tires. You could say it's made for competition - Well, just as the Viper ACR. Theres no difference!

i never said it was an american, all i said was that most of gm cars hold the record around the nurbergring in their classes, the cobalt ss, the ctsv, the Zr1 held it for a while, the viper acr holds it now. you can't say american cars suck because they're made with a different mentality...function over comfort and from a racing point of view thats not bad at all. thats sounds a bit fanboyish, you have the weight of the motor and tranny on top of your front wheels, you have all your power comming to the front wheels the same wheels you use to turn, when you accelerate the weight shifts to the back so your losing grip, if you fish tail its game over, there a million negatives to being ff. As for my gm comment its a fact, the zr1 posted top time when it ran, so did the cts-v the fastest sedan in the world, so did the cobalt ss, so im not sure how im wrong

@cheesepufff why sucks, i mean both ones has advantages and disadvantages. usually american cars has a huge torque and FR wheel drive but you must be very carefull in curves and starting with the gas, coz lose traction is very easy , however, in the FF cars are very hard to drift but i think they are more stable in curves and starting

But the reality is the front wheel drive is horrible for any kind of racing, its cheaper, easier to make and sell FF cars. Theres a reason why supercars are rwd or awd, and why no F1 or full drag car is FF. If your rear were to break loose you'd be in trouble because the wheels u use to turn are also where the powers coming from, you wouldnt be able to regain control.FF is bad for racing good for daily

if your "rear" were to break loose in an ff car you'd be fine. the back end will naturally follow the front end because the wheels that power the car are in the front and are dragging the back end.

To be clear i dont hate FF cars, i just dont compare them to FR and AWD cars in handling.

The might of a 2008 SRT10 viper cannot be matched stock for stock by any car. They are about high revs because its a smaller NA engine and that is about the only way to get power out of the engine, compression and revs are the only way your gonna get power out of NA thats just how it is, unless you start to up the displacement, at least they are Japanese cars down right and not all riced out, people with Cobra Stangs rev them out to 8k and that is plenty for the size of the engine, US cars just for the most part use bigger engines so u don't need 10K+ revs

Building high revving engines such as the previously allowed Formula One engines that revved to 20,000 RPM+ are very technically challenging to engineer since the stress on the engine rises exponentially upon higher RPMs. It is far easier to build heavier engines with big displacement and low engine speed at the cost of neutrality and predictability of the chassis under stress.

correct me if i'm wrong, but the way i see it, even though japanese manufacturers dont focus on big ass engines like v10 or v8, they can sure unleash the full potential of 4 and 6 cylinder engines and i respect that, look at american cars, even though they got big engines, they are unreliable, and dont get me started with their 4 cylinder engines, even though Srt-4 and cobalt SS are strong for 4 cylinder engines... they are Boosted, K20's are STRONG and they are STILL N/A.

4 cyl engines have never been the forte of american car manufacturers, because they have specialized in v8's. but that is also why your comment about them being unreliable is extremely enducated and follows an old myth created in the 80's when the major pollution laws came out and dirastic changes had to come to all the large engine, hense created 4 cyl cars like the tempo, which were rushed out of production to meet new emission standards. But today, american cars offer excellent reliability.

you need to understand how mechanics works before you start talking like that. as much as honda makes 4 cyl engines with good hp per litre, you need to understand that the smaller the engine the easier it is to accomplish that. That is why 2 cyl engine produce even better hp per litre than honda's 4 cyls. the reason for this is the bigger the engine, the heavier the pistons, the crank, the flywheel, the geares, the differential, etc etc. Heavier parts = more lost power.

But also from a realistic sense, american engines have been rated as the best in the world many more times than japanese engines. There is a reason why the 2 fastest production track cars in the world are American, and they both hold far more proven reliability than any japanese contender. Not saying japs don't make good cars, but you should let go of the old myth that american cars are trash. They have improvement immensely, and have always made some of the funnest cars ever driven.

Reliability does not come from HP per liter. New American cars are on par in reliability as Japanese cars. Also, Japanese cars aren't as reliable as you may think. I had a 98 Honda Accord whose transmission went out at 38k miles, then at 65k. The same problem existed on the Acuras. This was an engineering mistake Honda will never admit to. NO car company is flawless...
