okay i would like to throw in a little interjection. HD-DVD is better the blu-ray for the idea of backwards compatability yes. but Blu-ray is better in actually abilitys of storage and upgrades.
i have a blu-ray / HD-DVD player in my 360. and to be honest thats the best way to go. the reason the HD-DVD player died was because its like mac vs pc, ones going to be more popular but the other will always somehow be around. im not taking sides. im just saying it's technology get over it.
Interesting analogy, of course I made this video when HD-DVD was still around. Toshiba failed in its marketing practices and Sony is part of Hollywood, so I guess that's the reason...
That is awesome, I just wish they put the Diamond Select Toys sound effects on it instead of the generic explosion and laser blast noise heard in every kids toy.
HD-DVD is better because it was able to be sold in a combo format, DVD on one side of the disk and HD-DVD on the other side. The Picture in picture in was really cool and so was the menu that you could access without having to leave the movie. However PS3 killed this format, which really had some great technologies that Blu-ray is just now putting on their disks. In my opinion High Definition disks in general won't last long until internet streaming of HD content takes over.
Hey thanks for your comment and chiming in on the "debate". lol. Finally, some one with some common sense and facts. I think Hollywood was giving Sony preference ever since they took over Columbia Pictures.
Blu-Ray is actually using HD-DVD's technology now, which is what you're seeing (VC-1), whereas they used MPEG-2 before. The picture-in-picture wasn't even ready for Blu-Ray until months after HD-DVD "died".
Are you saying BluRay wouldn't have upgraded the codecs and P-in-P anyway? That's ridiculous. Even with different codecs, the two formats were indistinguishable to anybody viewing them side by side. HD-DVD was doomed from the start because more storage capacity always wins over less storage.
They're using Microsoft's VC-1 now. Before with MPEG2 blu-ray wasn't able to contain many extras, particularly in hi-def due to compression issues and the fact they wanted nearly all blu-rays to have PCM uncompressed audio which took up the rest of the blu-ray disc. Sony had to win the "war" real quick or else its PS3 would have died.
Actually, the technologies are different, otherwise you'd be able to play a Blu-Ray on an HD DVD player, and you can't. Maybe the video is the same, but they are read completely different. The scientists at Sony(yes there are scientists working for them)developed a way to make a blue laser without the unsteady crystal, using microwaved water vapor, so it's steadier, and same blue frequency. And the frequency makes the laser "thinner" which means that the bluray disc holds 5Xmore than dvd/hd-dvd
I paid 75 for the 1st phaser. the sounds are the same. the paint job is better on yours and you say it's better then plastic I have but that's the only 2 difference.
I'd like to know how on earth this looks better than the DS phaser.

How exactly is HD-DVD "better" than BluRay? The image quality is exactly the same, and BluRay has more storage capacity.

Good video! That is a really cool remote, I wander if they will be making a non HD-DVD version of it.

Thanks! I don't know, maybe not because it's Limited Edition.

Good video!
Shame that HD-DVD is now a "dead" format.
But the bright side is, you get to keep your HD-DVDs and player.
And now when they replace this set on BLU-ray. I will be buying it, I wonder if they will include that cool remote.
