If Townshend says Tommy wasn't influenced by S.F.Sorrow, then he lies. Maybe he thought about writing a concept story back in 67/68 but S.F. Sorrow came out earlier. You can also clearly hear how Tommy was influenced by this musically too. This album would have deserved as great success as Tommy had at that time. It's like the link between Pepper and Tommy. Thank you Pretties for this great album!
The lyrics are incredibly well written, the drums are amazing and the militaristic undertones of the song are chilling. It's a shame not many British bands today are this creative.
1. SF Sorrow Is Born 2. Bracelets Of Fingers 3. She Says Good Morning 4. Private Sorrow 5. Balloon Burning 6. Death 7. Baron Saturday 8. Journey 9. I See You 10. Well Of Destiny 11. Trust 12. Old Man Going 13. Loneliest Person
Great song and video tie in. Its hard to believe, but today their are actually a few people still alive from the 'Great War' even though the armistice was signed Nov 11, 1918 or 90 years ago. They're now anywhere from 105-112 years old, but still here to tell their story.
@londonpenda What about "The Story of Simon Simopath" by Nirvana UK? I believe that came before. However, in all honesty S.F. Sorrow was a much better album. Love it!
@londonpenda I don't think it was the first Rock Opera. Check out "The Story of Simon Simopath" by Nirvana (UK). I will say that this probably has the best story out of all of them. Got this on vinyl - one of the greatest gifts I've ever received!
@londonpenda And as of only yesterday at time of writing this, Austalia's last soldier from WWI found his final peace. Makes you think. Howevert; I was to say myself that the video and video tie in so good, as mrbag60 wrote. Actually your choice of film clips fit in to a T as for my own visual experience of the Pretties' recording during 'all these years (umm, since 1980 for my part). And I can't help feeling some relation to Roger Waters and The Wall and his loss of his dad, when seeing this.
The last WW1 vet who fought for the US, Frank Buckles will be 108 in January. The last one alive who fought for Canada, John Babcock, lives in the US in Spokane, Washington and is 108. Once the last WW1 veteran dies, the focus will then be on WW2 vets most of whom are now in their 80's. By Sept 1, 2039, the 100th anniversary of the start of
WW2 in Europe we will probably be mourning the loss of the last one of them as well.

The whole of S.F.Sorrow is ace.
This was the FIRST rock opera.
Over here, there are only 3 ex-servicemen left alive who fought in the 1stWW.The eldest 122yrs old.
It will be very strange for me when there are none left to march past the Cenotaph in London....!
londonpenda 3 years ago 2
What about Tommy?
Alexthesemigreat 2 years ago
Tommy was the 2nd rock opera.
Even P. Townsend says so.
londonpenda 2 years ago
didn't Townshend say this album influenced Tommy and later took that back?
fiendwithoutaface66 2 years ago
@londonpenda
But S.F.Sorrow clearly better than Tommy.
Just my Private Opinion.

@21stCentSchizoidFan
I listened to that album and really found almost no continuity or point. It felt like a collection of songs, not a story. SF Sorrow is the first.

S.F.Sorrow, the album this track is taken from came out in 1968;)
londonpenda 4 years ago
Thanks. I wonder why they never play it on the radio on any of the oldie stations?
Stacela 4 years ago
It might be because people think that 'Tommy' was the first 'Rock Opera' and don't want to admit that S.F.Sorrow was THE first Rock Opera.
They don't play this over here either.?
;)

Still kind of strange that they never play any of their music.
