The finale was a giant, disappointing mess. The keyboard music is just awful, and was enough to make my ears bleed. The religion-themed story is garbage. The Superman we all wanted to see in costume, is barely seen at all (because Tom Welling didn't want to be seen in it). Both the Michael Rosenbaum cameo and last fight against Darkside was cheap, quick, and left much to be desired. ...ugh.
Eh... If Smallvillle had stayed true to it's own vision it should have ended with Clark seeing the Superman suit at the end of the series not some half glimpsed vision of Superman based on that horrid Superman Returns movie. Just saying.
Perfect! Die hard smallville fans waited 10 years to see CLARK fly for the first time, and the finale didn't disappoint! I thought this was an excellent ending to a great series.
I still say that Lana should have been the one to give him the suit. Like that they could have ended their relationship and ended the Smallville Saga. Then he could have continued as Superman to louis.
Awesome. Finally they get this right. Superman's suit was assembled with the house of El symbol in the fortress of solitude, within a chamber, by 'Jor-El's incarnation. This Kryptonian cloth was in his bed aboard his space ship when he landed as a child. This redeemed the show for me. They even remembered, for the first damn time, the yellow S on the back of the cape. About damn time. This makes me weep over the costume design of the new Man of Steel one coming out in 2013.
@Muthayus1 Oh. I guess it was in the fortress with Jor-El for safe keeping. So Martha and Clark made it, but the cloth itself is definitely Kryptonian cloth. It's bullet proof, fire proof, and Clark was the only one who could cut it/form the shapes. The cloth is seen in his space shuttle and in his backpack in the movie. Sweet.

Um this is not the first time hi flys ... in the first season he has a dream that his flying then he wake up flotting from his bed, then on the first episode of season 2 he tells his dad that when he was rescueing lana in the Toronto he was flying to the car. So really its not the first time.

Nope. Way I hard it is the creators of the show NEVER wanted or intended him to become Superman until the end of the show. It's not about Superman it's about Clark becoming Superman. Futher, Tom Welling NEVER wanted to play Superman which is why, depite how man fans want it, you never see him as Superman in any project.
Despite its shortcomings, this was an amazing finale. The series was more about the character, the idea of superman. Not his powers and his suit. And that, they portrayed better than anyone !

I love the Superman legend; but Neo's style of flying was so ass kicking; knock the crap out of the ground and leaving one hell of a jet stream behind himself. The Neo flight jacket, Goth boots and cool shades make flying look cool. I agree also with everyone else here; after 10 years; Smallville fans were owed a better closure scene!

I watched for 10 years and not getting one clean shot of him as Superman made me one angry MOFO. Seriously that was like a slap in the face for hardcore fans who waited for so long.
What ever that was off the hook it wasn't corny like allot of the superman show prior. Smallville is the best I have seen loved that show watched it all finally the week before last.

Clark Kent IS Superman. Clark becoming Superman is the most piviotal moment of his life, and that's what Smallville was all about: the road to becoming Superman. To not show him in the suit was them not showing the final development of his character. He struggled for ten years to become Superman, and what should have been the most epic finale of all time, wasn't.

I thought this part of the episode was cool cause you see and hear both of his fathers how proud they are of him and giving him his suit. But like I said its not about superman its about clark kent.
ok everyone so what we didn't expect to see certain things on the smallville finally. Personally I really don't care if he really whares the suit or not or expect a long fight with darkseid cause hey if your forgetting that this show was about clark kent becoming the hero he was born to be and the journey he took to get their. I liked this episode and how it all came together. This part was cool cause you see and hear both of his fathers how proud they are of him.
As much as I like the smallville show and love superman ... i think the creators could have easily had at least 30 minutes of superman in the final episode or even a whole episode rather than 4 or 5 mins. I see what they tried to do by leaving you wanting more but still you they should have given more.
The whole flying sequence intrigued me, trying to analyze the presentation of it and how they explain it. In the old series krypton had a heavier gravity than earth so slying is natural. But here there's somekind of method to it. If I had to guess the energy that he's storing is some kind of solar power that i guess breaks the gravity field around him that holds everything to the earth. Cause when he initially leaves the ground there's that image of a circle expulsion like something broke.
Using physics, it would require a lot of kinetic energy for someone of Clark's mass to actually leave the ground. My take is that he's absorbing energy to release it in order to gain flight. The ground beneath him cracks because it's his first time taking off and he doesn't know how to channel the energy in a way to not damage the ground beneath him. Very cool effects. I love that scene.

I was following the Twitter feed about Smallville during the final episode, and right after this scene, I saw one tweet that summed up my feeling perfectly:
"If the final episode of Smallville were a movie, the whole theater would have just erupted in cheers!"
I agree this moment was great but as a person who's never missed an episode.And watched the show from pilot to the series finale for 10 years. I felt slightly cheated that the suit was cgi. I would have accepted just a minute of a full shot of Tom in the suit and been happy. Still i'll buy the complete series in the near future.

Superman needs too be epic, I felt there were some great scenes, like this one, but it seems liked it was rushed in some episodes, and prolonged in others. I was disapointed with the Doomsday Storyline. Taking a tip from the comics, he should of had his epic fight, then die at the end of the season, and be resurrected for a two hour openner.

Which is still bullshit. I can't believe that someone didn't step up and say to Tom and the producers "Do you all actually think that it's a good idea to never show him in the suit? The closest we got was the shirt rip, which was great, but it felt like they were teasing me.

I understand that as huge a superman fan that you sound that you may have been let down by him not appearing in the suit but I feel that him appearing in the suit would've been bad for the show because this show has always been about Clark Kent not Superman and I think that the fact he became Superman but you didn't properly see him in the suit was classy and loyal to the original concept which was young Clark before he donned the suit.
@voxbox18 There was a contractical requirement for them not to see Clark Kent in the Superman Costume. It was a requirement I believe set by the "owner" of Superman. It was in the contracts in the beginning fo the entire series.

So that would definitely affect his ability to actually wear the suit. And the battle with darkside i believe was done that way because he wasnt superman yet. Superman beats dark side. No, Kal is Clark Kent. Superman is the alter ego. He's really Clark Kent at heart, Superman is his disguise. Batman is the opposite. Batman is the real personality, Bruce Wayne is the disguise. That was always my biggest issue with Smallville, they blurred the lines too much, essentially making Clark and Superman the same guy.
The producers of the show knew that once fans saw Clark fly that they would have no more reason to watch the show which had turned into a superhero soap opera during the last few seasons. I was glad to see the show end. My only satisfaction at watching a kryptonian fly was watching Kal El's (Clark's) cousin Kara fly, saving lives in the process and looking super hot at the same time. I would love to see a supergirl series now.
We forget that Clark was able to fly earlier in the series while under the influence of red kryptonite. He always had the ability to fly but was prevented from doing so because of his fear of flying. Having said that, the actual real factor which kept Clark from flying again until the last few minutes of the series is this: (See next comment)

I disagree. Enterprise might have taken a page from Dallas making the entire series a holographic reconstruction but it still was done OK, not great but OK. Smallville took 10 years to deliver Superman and what do we get? a two minute battle with Dark Side a lame ass montage of the series which does not fit Jor'El's personality, and digital Superman pushing a planet out of orbit. You don't even get to see Clark as Superman. The whole episode is a comic book read by Clowie. It's BAD!

@jerrylionheart You are correct. The writers did say they wanted the focus to be on Clark Kent and not on Superman. You could say that once he donned the suit he had become Superman and Clark Kent had become the alter-ego. Still I can't help but feel disappointed that we never see a full shot of him with the suit.
I loved Smallville but season 10 was was the absolute worst written of the series. Which is really saying something because the first 9 seasons had some really bad episodes.

Kinda funny how in the earlier seasons like some where in 4 or 5, When Clark met some dude, the guy said when Clark flies he can accomplish anything. (Series Finale) Clark is ten times faster and stronger when he files and gets the suit, carries a plane, and carries a whole freakin planet.
Krynkles01, I'm 58, yeah, and I worshipped Superboy comics in the early 60's and Clark having to watch out for Lana always trying to trick him into doing something super... Since some show my wife liked was evidently on at the same time or I was always working or whatever, whenever I would turn on "Smallville", I would think,"What the...?" Well, now I know!

Clark Kent IS Superman. Clark becoming Superman is the most piviotal moment of his life, and that's what Smallville was all about: the road to becoming Superman. To not show him in the suit was them not showing the final development of his character. He struggled for ten years to become Superman, and what should have been the most epic finale of all time, wasn't.

ok everyone so what we didn't expect to see certain things on the smallville finally. Personally I really don't care if he really whares the suit or not or expect a long fight with darkseid cause hey if your forgetting that this show was about clark kent becoming the hero he was born to be and the journey he took to get their. I liked this episode and how it all came together. This part was cool cause you see and hear both of his fathers how proud they are of him.

As much as I like the smallville show and love superman ... i think the creators could have easily had at least 30 minutes of superman in the final episode or even a whole episode rather than 4 or 5 mins. I see what they tried to do by leaving you wanting more but still you they should have given more.

The whole flying sequence intrigued me, trying to analyze the presentation of it and how they explain it. In the old series krypton had a heavier gravity than earth so slying is natural. But here there's somekind of method to it. If I had to guess the energy that he's storing is some kind of solar power that i guess breaks the gravity field around him that holds everything to the earth. Cause when he initially leaves the ground there's that image of a circle expulsion like something broke.

Using physics, it would require a lot of kinetic energy for someone of Clark's mass to actually leave the ground. My take is that he's absorbing energy to release it in order to gain flight. The ground beneath him cracks because it's his first time taking off and he doesn't know how to channel the energy in a way to not damage the ground beneath him. Very cool effects. I love that scene.

I agree this moment was great but as a person who's never missed an episode.And watched the show from pilot to the series finale for 10 years. I felt slightly cheated that the suit was cgi. I would have accepted just a minute of a full shot of Tom in the suit and been happy. Still i'll buy the complete series in the near future.

@voxbox18 I agree, he should of put on the Superman suit early on in the season, and have him fight Darkseid for the final Smallville two hour episode. Superman needs too be epic, I felt there were some great scenes, like this one, but it seems liked it was rushed in some episodes, and prolonged in others. I was disapointed with the Doomsday Storyline. Taking a tip from the comics, he should of had his epic fight, then die at the end of the season, and be resurrected for a two hour openner.

LOL, I know that they were staying true to the comics and also the hum... movies, but it just did not look right, now I know some people are going to say that they had a budget, but come on this is the last of Smallvile, end for 10 year at least make him look good, and the fight scene cool.

I understand that as huge a superman fan that you sound that you may have been let down by him not appearing in the suit but I feel that him appearing in the suit would've been bad for the show because this show has always been about Clark Kent not Superman and I think that the fact he became Superman but you didn't properly see him in the suit was classy and loyal to the original concept which was young Clark before he donned the suit.

@voxbox18 There was a contractical requirement for them not to see Clark Kent in the Superman Costume. It was a requirement I believe set by the "owner" of Superman. It was in the contracts in the beginning fo the entire series.

@voxbox18 I am not for sure on this, but I believe there was some legal issue with him actually putting on the suit. I remember hearing about something like that a couple years ago. So that would definitely affect his ability to actually wear the suit. And the battle with darkside i believe was done that way because he wasnt superman yet. Superman beats dark side. Not clark kent.

No, Kal is Clark Kent. Superman is the alter ego. He's really Clark Kent at heart, Superman is his disguise. Batman is the opposite. Batman is the real personality, Bruce Wayne is the disguise. That was always my biggest issue with Smallville, they blurred the lines too much, essentially making Clark and Superman the same guy.

The producers of the show knew that once fans saw Clark fly that they would have no more reason to watch the show which had turned into a superhero soap opera during the last few seasons. I was glad to see the show end. My only satisfaction at watching a kryptonian fly was watching Kal El's (Clark's) cousin Kara fly, saving lives in the process and looking super hot at the same time. I would love to see a supergirl series now.

We forget that Clark was able to fly earlier in the series while under the influence of red kryptonite. He always had the ability to fly but was prevented from doing so because of his fear of flying. Having said that, the actual real factor which kept Clark from flying again until the last few minutes of the series is this: (See next comment)

I disagree. Enterprise might have taken a page from Dallas making the entire series a holographic reconstruction but it still was done OK, not great but OK. Smallville took 10 years to deliver Superman and what do we get? a two minute battle with Dark Side a lame ass montage of the series which does not fit Jor'El's personality, and digital Superman pushing a planet out of orbit. You don't even get to see Clark as Superman. The whole episode is a comic book read by Clowie. It's BAD!

Kinda funny how in the earlier seasons like some where in 4 or 5, When Clark met some dude, the guy said when Clark flies he can accomplish anything. (Series Finale) Clark is ten times faster and stronger when he files and gets the suit, carries a plane, and carries a whole freakin planet.
