  • Very nice. I shoot super8 a lot and have been thinking of going for a Scoopic, but boy does it make my nervous. Never shot any 16 by myself. Do you have an HD version of this? I'd love to see some more clarity as YouTube just crushed detail.

  • is there anyway i could see the entire film?

  • Beats HD any day!!!! Great film, perfect exposures!

  • So beautiful! Digital just has nothing on film. Colors are so rich and great contrast! You have a good eye for composition too.

  • @manosquabo I greatly appreciate your comment, Why did you remove it? I am now working in Portland, OR at BENT Image Lab. I am an editor here, and also shoot the behind the scenes video and photos. I would love to hear about what you are working on in L.A.

  • This is really amazing. The sharpness is incredible. I assume you framed your shots knowing that you would be cropping your scan to 16:9. Really nice footage here.

  • @davebellard Yes, i knew I was going to crop it. Thank you very much for the comment.

  • Is this Ultra 16? Did you convert the scoopic?

  • @JWD96 This is a 16:9 crop.

  • I love the footage and the colors!!!

  • @fieryphoenixe Thank you!

  • Wonderfully shot sequence. Great example of the potential for the Canon Scoopic. May I ask you if when exposing this did you account for any light loss from the viewfinder? Many thanks!

  • I was hoping to get into this school an major in film also, by my dad refuses to pay for a school so far away. So its either 4 years at vsu or community. Any suggestions?

  • @Gmancrap

    Hey,

Thanks a lot for the message. I have a friend who works in student enrollment at Evergreen, and they are recruiting out of state students. There's always student loans, and if youi are just now enrolling in college, do you qualify for the Pell Grant? I can get you in touch with her if you want to send me an email with your contact info anda brief description of your conundrum. Send it to holyblankenship@gmail.com

    Best of Luck otherwise

  • Hey wow, thanks a lot man I really appreciate it.

  • Yes it is. Nowhere on earth like it.

  • Is this death valley?

  • Looks great! What ratio is this? Did you crop to 16:9? How?

  • what kind of colour correction did you do/did you supervise the scan?

  • @nyumetsu, As far as color correction, I did supervise the transfer at Flying Spot in Seattle. We did not do anything drastic as far as grading/CC because we just didn't have to. I think if you take a few hundred feet of color neg, tungsten balanced with a daylight filter, down to Death Valley, you'll end up with something just as nice. It's just amazing down there.

  • is this u16?

  • Very nice! What film specifically did you use...Vision 2, 3 or?

    What scanning and by whom?

    Thx.

  • @otari99 I'm not sure I remember, but I believe VIsion 2. Thanks!

  • Respond to this video... Oh, and the processing was done by Alpha Cine in Seattle, and the transfer by FLying Spot film transfer.

  • I recently found a Scooptic16 on eBay. Is there a big difference in quality between the Scooptic16 and 16M? I was wondering if I should wait and look around for a Scooptic16M.

  • @lunafora As far as I'm concerned, I would hold out for the 16m. That's what I used here.

  • excellent job man

i really wish i could be shooting some 16

  • wow, this is really, really good material! i am considering getting a 16mm camera but i could not decide which one. i had a bolex or an old arriflex in mind (budget) but now i know what i want! do you mind if i ask how the sound was recorded? i'm sure this camera doesn't record sound as well... now im gonna search ebay for that camera. thanks 1000 times.

  • @rockangel1967, the sound was recorded on a Tascam HDP2. Truthfully, we did not shoot anything with sync. We recorded all of the walking, scratching, gravel tumbling sounds after the fact, then just built the soundscape in FCP with a little help from a SFX bank.

If you want to shoot film on a tight budget and need something that will stay pretty close as far as sound sync goes, the Scoopic cannot be beat.

  • I would never have guessed this movie was shot in 16mm. Blew me away.

  • Hi, did you use Scoopic 16 or 16M?

  • @screamstation I used the 16m.

  • by the way, that's me IN the movie, too. I composed the shots without anybody in frame, set exposure, then let my AC operate the camera as I acted out each shot.

  • I have shot with a Bolex H16, CP-16, and a canon scoopic. The scoopic put the others to shame in ease of use and quality of image. I did very little grading to this sequence. Most shots just had the sky darkened and contrast boosted a touch, but a few needed no grading at all. That is the beauty of shooting color negative at 200 iso with the scoopic lens (And also being in Death Valley). I shot tungsten balanced film with a daylight filter. I think that really pumped the color, too.

  • hey, really great looking film.

I'm using a Canon Scoopic in a couple of weeks any tips?

Also i was wondering how much grading you had to do to get the amazing colours?

  • Muy buenos colores y contrastes. Adoro esa respuesta que nos da el filmico! Tengo una Canon Scoopic 16 recien comprada que muero por probar...
