How stupid that they would film this in a boat in the company of the other couple, killing the intimacy of the private moment and charm. This film is known as one of the worst directed movie musicals of all time.
@WorldCupSeoul This movie currently has a rating of 6.9/10 on IMDB. So, it is unlikley that is is considered "one of the worst" directed movie musicals. Regardless, the quality of the music is what makes it wonderful.
Your comments promted me to remark how utterly ignorant you are, thank goodness that the success of movies does not lie with you, watch it again and reflect.
Is the background projected? Or are the actors really in a boat and the camera on a dock or a steadycam? I don't think they had steadycam back then, since it only came about in the 1970s. Whatever technique was used, the final result is technically perfect and astoundingly beautiful.
The whole movie was shot on location in Maine. Especially for back then, it is surprising that the cameraman could keep the camera as steady as he did.
I am so gratetful that you have posted this awesome video. What fantastic sentiment re. re love, honor and not to mention the epic voices ! ! Thank you very much !
With two opera singers cast for this film, Carousel is a real splendid musical. But it is rather unfortunate that three out of the four on this boat are now deceased.
I loved Barbara Ruick's voice. She was so talented and died so young. Her mother was the equally talented supporting actress Lurene Tuttle. I believe Barbara wa her only child.
Rodgers and Hammerstein are part of the Golden Age of Musicals. When, since Andrew Lloyd Webber, have we had a musical with more than one good number?
Does Mr Snow kind of freak you out, with his moustache? But his voice makes me melt, sigh!

There's a whole other little intro song before Enoch breaks out with "When The Children Are Asleep." It begins with:
I own a little house and I sail a little boat
And the fish I catch I sell
And in a manner of speakin'
"I'm doin' very well."
I love a little girl and she's in love with me
And soon she'll be my bride.
And in a manner of speakin'
I should be satisfied.

ALW is a moron.
RandH were brilliant.

@misschievous007 Yeah, I tend to agree. I liked Rogers and Hart, too. Either team ranks far and above anything Weber ever did.

@lskarin Next to Normal, The Light in the Piazza, I can think of a ton, actually. But I don't really like Webber too much..
