@onesicss They're basically about the same as far as maintenance goes. They're both a pain in the ass. Some things are easier on an LSX motor, some are easier on an LTX. Just depends on what maintenance you're doing.
IDK I homestly think LT1 is better for more aftermarketing. A simple cam swap in the LT1 and a tune will put atleast 350rwhp. LT1 was better laid out as far as doing simple maintaince on the engine. As far as extrior(body) and interior the LS1 is way more refined and better looking. Their isn't much arguing here though. They both use the same tranny autos 4L60-E or a T56 borg warner same 10 bolt rear end.
That may have been true in the past but I've seen cam only LS1's put down way more rwhp than 350 and more torque. Which is why we have cam only LS1's running low 11's and our fastest cam only LT1 is running low 12's. When it comes to performance and horsepower, there's no denying that the LS1 is superior when the same mods are added to each. It's not so much an oppinion but rather a fact.
@tyketto8 I do agree with anything newer usually is gonna be better. GM wouldn't have put out a weaker engine in their newer muscle cars. We all know GM under rates their engines and how the LS1 was one of the most under rated engines.
I don't think there is a single thing better about the LT1's. If you don't believe me, then take a stock LT1 and race a stock LS1. Or just drive through some heavy rain and think about your comment when your changing your opti-spark!
oh ok I thought you said the LT1 is better...wait, that IS what you said. LS1 = all alluminum, 6 bolt mains, high velocity heads, optimized oiling system... nevermind, just nevermind.
The Trans Am is a Firebird. There's the Firebird Coupe V6, Firebird Formula LS1, Firebird Trans Am, Firebird Formula Firehawk, and the Firebird Trans Am Firehawk...but they're all in the Firebird family.
I don't mean to hate, i have a 98 formula. How did you only get 68 horse over stock? I'm no mechanic but can't you get nearly that much out of a good programing?
Not sure where you're getting your figures from but a stock LS1 will not put down 345 to the wheels. Maybe from the crank but that would be pushing it. They're rated at 315 from the crank which is a very conservative number. I'd put it at about 325 at the crank and about 305 to the wheels stock. Remember that my numbers are at the wheels which puts me at about 480-490 to the flywheel! Sounds like a good increase to me with that mild cam.
The final pull was 413 rwhp and 394 rwtq. The cam isn't that big. I'm not positive but I think it's a 226/231. Lift is somewhere in the 580's. I'm looking for someting like a 238/240 at about 600 on a 112 LSA.
Thats good power especially through a 12-bolt. Well atleast the smaller cam is proven to do well with a stock bottem end. The larger however with the 112 would sound wicked.
Agreed! I can't wait to get that new one in there and tuned. I'm pulling the front tires off on the launch but with that bigger cam, I should be able to carry them a little more. Should sound and look awesome!
r u kidding me! lt1.... easier than ls for maintinence.... haaaaa right ok....

The only thing better about the LT1 over the LS1 is that the LT1's are cheaper to buy. LOL

Ls1's are way better than LT1's. My friend has a LT1 camaro and I have a LS1 firebird. Trust me LS1 blows the LT1 away every time.
