IMO it's a syndrome a lot of what you would call "one hit wonder" bands can't overcome. Personally I love the Toadies and find their sound unique among other rock bands. But it seems when a band's first hit single and/or album is so good and so popular, it's very difficult to live up to it in the future.

wtf? this sounds like toadies from rubberneck album in early 90's. listen to backslider. hasn't changed much since them. it's unfortunate it's taken this long for toadies to get recognition but so what. i'm glad they are putting out tunes now. clutch has good stuff, too, but it's not possible to compare artists - so don't. just enjoy them. toadies keep rockin' and puttin' out more tunes.
