I am all for fresh food, and moving away from processed. I must be awesome to be Alice, the world is a wonderland of organic food communes. I love the edible classroom stuff, I think that getting kids involved with gardening increases their interest in eating fresh vegs and fruit. I must say that dear Alice hasn't even one toe planted in reality. While the wealthy can afford organic (which in no small part is more a marketing scheme that actually healthier) most families can't.
It's all very well to teach people (children to eat fresh food) but what's gonna happen to the foodindustry??? They have to change their ways big time too!
What's the matter, mhirtes? Alice Waters rape your daughter?
You just seem to have an *awful* lot of free time on your hands, considering you're going around to every single clip of hers, talking shit about her. Obsess much?
Alice Waters is a loon. Mass-production of food is VITAL in order to avoid a WORLD WIDE FAMINE. God I hate it when smug Berkeley morans think they know the answer to everything, but in practice, people end up suffering.
I know how you feel, and there is a big challenge but what I've seen (I'm married to a woman a bit like Alice) is that it is possible for everyone. When I first saw the documentary on Cuba's turnaround since they started doing what Alice says ... now they use very little chemical, 80% of Cuba is organic and there standard of living has grown. My wife has started an edible garden at the school she works at in central Australia and the kids love it. The future is very bright ...
I live in the Midwest. If I'm supposed to give up on oranges and tomatoes and live off of squash all Winter just because I'm not living in a temperate climate like California, then Queen Alice will have to tear the Bakers card from my cold, dead hands.
I agree 100% with her message; I live in a place where those markets and communities still exist and feel very lucky for it. But something about her manner just irritates the hell outta me, which is too bad because the message is right on.
