The angle of Lynne being in danger was never brought by Jowd, he just felt guilty to the point of wanting to be killed because for his "sin"of almost shooting a man who took a little girl hostage and held a gun against her head.

This guy is supposed to be a grizzled detective.

@lurker2626 But at the same time, the guy who got the girl hostage only did it because he feared for his life, thanks to what the two rookie detectives did. The first one played bad cop, put fear of the police in his mind, and gave him a weapon, the second cop chased him down, shot and was by all intends going to kill him if he didn't return. So here we have the guy, he thinks if he goes back to the police, they'll psychologically torture him some more until he gives answers he doesn't have.

@Grandy12 Dude, I'm okay with Jowd feeling guilty for what he (ALMOST, mind you)did I'd imagine that's the stuff of nightmares.

But literally wanting to be executed for it? Come the fuck on, man, he's supposed to be a hard-boiled renown detective he's supposed to deal with stuff like that on a daily basis. The drama in that scene felt super tacked-on and only there to subvert your expectations.

And they didn't "psychologically torture" Yomiel, they interrogated him.

when Jowd claims he killed the man he doesn't mean just pointing the gun at him and shooting, but he and Cabanela driving the dude to the point he would give them no choise but to shoot and kill him. I don't think Jowd would feel guilty if he never found out the man was in fact innocent of the crime they were charging him with.
