@BohemianRugby because they are using an ordonary rear hub not a freecoaster where he pedals dont pull pack as you "reverse/fakie". On the "ordonary" hub it does pull back and if you dont pedal backwards it will stop you from moving.

If you mean during the time he rides forward, then it is for the leg position i think(just in some postition you feel more comfortable)

@svantearrhenius1 They aren't fixed gear - Ali C has a fixed sprocket on his cranks with a freewheel on his rear hub, and Stan has a freewheel on his cranks and a fixed sprocket on his rear hub. Nothing fixed, no 'back brake hub', just skill ;-)
