This being created on a budget of 70p makes the multimillion dollar Spielberg effort look almost infinitely shameful. This adaptation really reflects the spirit of the book, and yet Spielberg just couldn't get it right with all that money. the Whining brats might have been something to do with it, and the genral disregard for the original material.
i Just watched the film again (speilberg) by chance. the ending really is the most diabolical load of nonsense ever. Cruiser the loser makes it back to Boston, which is supposedly one of the cities the aliens started at (you know, destroyin the whole of humanity and all that), and guess whos waiting there for him? ahh thats right, the mother and both the grandparents are there, in their perfectly undamaged house, full of smiles and with a warm batch of cookies ready, AS IF NOTHING HAD HAPPENED.
Seriously, you are to be commended on a brilliant effort.
And I'd think that in the 100 or so additional years the Martians spent watching us develop nuclear weapons / missiles / tanks and so forth, they might have come up with a 'shield' gubbins. Let's face it, they'd developed interplanetary flight by the 1890s ... while humanity had developed the heated bed-pan.
i think the point was more than they brought their plants and advanced tech to earth, and then just started building whatever they thought would be the most useful for killing humans.
speilberg was offered the chance to do a film of the music but declined, too busy with other things and then 20 odd years later instead of going back to jeff wayne and saying right now i am ready he did his own crap tom cruise version, way to go speilberg!
@DrummerKeepkeep Of course not, I'd be more than happy to buy this on DVD, but are we not already taking this for free being on youtube? I just thought it would be easier for him to distribute it as a torrent than having to burn the DVD, package it, post it, etc...
@jasonj2008 Then we would have some busy pilots and aircrew haha. I reckon the ground forces these days could cope with them as well. If they were prepared...a couple of Javelin shots would be enough to take down a Fighting Machine?...hell, anything Anti Tank these days would give them a pounding. If a Victorian Cannon can "Decapiate a Fighting Machine" then we would sure as hell smash them with modern warfare equipment.
@badwolf66 That is so weird...I was thinking that today!! Serious! I had to double check that I never posted that. They can hit things from over a mile away can't they? Heat Ray? Black Smoke? No chance. :)
@PatScully123 "Across the pit on its farther lip, flat and vast and strange, lay the great flying-machine with which they had been experimenting upon our denser atmosphere when decay and death arrested them. "
I would love to see a complete version of this film, with all the parts joined up together, available as a download, perhaps as a torrent, in the original quality. Yes, I accept that it may be about 1Gb, but as soon as it is seeded up, I'll be quite happy to be a seeder, as I'm sure many other people would. So how about it CompressedFilms?
that was FANTASTIC !!! VERY VERY well done.. I too have the album in original condition, the cd set and of course it is played along with Orson Welles Americanized radio version every Hallows Eve at our house.. Thank you so very much for taking the time to do this great work.
I hate to admit it, but I have the very original vinyl record that was released way back in 1978. It's still in as new condition as well, even though I use to play it often.
As for these vids, they are absolutely brilliantly produced.
The vid ive sent u is a crater in the feild where i saw these objects hanging around i believe one must of landed or crashed as it 12 feet by 12 feet i ask the farmer he dosnt know what it is and how it got there.
Superb 5 stars but reality its really happening now watch my account and check out all the stuff all the best ufo footage thats been captured ive seen loads of UFOS in the last 5 months from discs to orange ufos red ufos white ufos or orbs ive seen cylinder craft etc it is happening and the goverment cant do nothing about it.We are under attack now fake planes ufos mimicing planes i saw orange ufos this weekend hanging around feilds hoovering then shooting of across feilds.
Wonderful! A movie I wish I could make! Much better than Spielberg's. I always wondered how the Martian tripods walked. That your work? Excellent! Can't wait to see more. Thank you for this.
actually though, this chapter is quite moving, i love the forever autumn track so to compressed films who ever you are i'm not trying to undermine this superb work you are putting together, this is the kind of thing youtube was made for
I loved the LP, could spend hours and hours of this music as well as Mecco's! Movie Soundtracks with Special Effects...I really must take my hat down for this video! A job well done! Congrats! The music really brought me bk to my years as a kid! Thanks!!!!
I remember my older sister playing this LP over and over again in the late 70's. I had been about 10 yrs old when it was released. Now, 30 years later, I still enjoy listening to this. Great Music! Thanks for sharing!
@arbrush Same here, my big brother played it over and over and I was about 8 or so. Today is the first time I heard it all again, amazing how all those childhood memories came back, very emotional

I wounder how the martions knew where they where going did they have TomTom how much would that cost on mars
they wouldnt be able to argue cus the only thing the can say is ulla i have a thery they are actually trying to say hola hello in spanish becus they where origionaly trying to land in spain but got lost and ended up in england which brings me to my first question do they have tom tom
great to see this put online, very inventive graphics. it would be interesting to see what compressedfilms could do with this if he/she/they had a few quid to work with.
One criticism though, if i may. It would have been better to have left out or at least turned the volume down on the explosions and other effects, the drama of Jeff Waynes score makes them unnecessary and at times they were drowning out the narration.
Hmmm. Considering the degree of heat and natural reactions that moisture of any kind has in extremes of heat its safer to conclude that human skin would blacken, shrink and tear. Its also safe to assume that the heat needed to set trees aflame with a chance hit would also evaporate the water in a human body if brought close enough thereby making them explode like a pressure cooker.
Well at least they managed to destroy a martian, how big is the alien body (not the fighting machine!), and in the first clip why is the head levitating bulk thingy an actual creature or a fighting machine?
it does actually it causes ur skins to blister and ur blood to boil eventually blood will poor out of the blisters and scars, the ash thing was just stepen spielbergs adaptation to the original storyline
i agree mate. i know Speilberg likes to make is films diffrent but if you're going to do that, dont call it War of the Worlds. Nothing about the film was loyal to the book except the fact that there were Tripods. He said in a interview that his invaders didnt even come from Mars.
Ugh! That movie might have been okay for me if it didn't have the title War of the Worlds (He even had the nerve to cut out the "the" in the beginning of the title).
This is terrifyingly brilliant!! I've been glued to these since I wandered upon the first one this morning-bloody well done! Watching the Sky News clips reminded me of the panic in 1938 when it was broadcast on radio and everyone thought it was real....watching those now made it feel so real-fantastic work on the ones I've seen so far, I can't say brilliantly fantastically wonderful work enough times!!!! : )
Absolutely stunning. Deserves so much. I remember listening to the original musical in the 70's and have had to wait 30 years for the right visual to the soundtrack.
Who needs thingamybob out of topgun to act this one out.
I am utterly amazed....Speechless. Thanks for doing this. I was always a fan of WOTW, and was disapointed when Spweburk made his. It reminds me of the Game. Keep doing it please, you need an ultimate youtuber prize or something. the links are going on my site if its ok with you and all my friends will be interested.
Awesome-you have achevieved on no budget and limited time what speiberg could not-you have captured the very essence of what it could have been like. You should be proud of this, as its the best thing on youtube. Many thanks for posting.
Each episode gets better and better! I'm beyond impressed, and the devotion and excellent work that has gone into this project is flawless! This is the best thing i have watched on youtube, and this guy deserves so much credit. Thankyou so much for this :)
This series is brilliant! Thank you for taking the time, energies and efforts in producing this. I have been a fan of Jeff Wayne's musical version since it came out and still continue to hope that we'll be able to get the live staged version on DVD in the United States. You skills in bringing this animated version to the world are truly appreciated!
Ive just posted on the part 5 but I will on this too....this really is great stuff..well done and yes, it beats that travesty that Pendragon did by a country mile.
This is just simply superb. As a labour of love it really surpasses the "professional" Pendragon Pictures version of WOTW from few years ago, and in some ways even beats the CGI from the live tour! I am humbled before you, sir!
I'm 65 years old and I still remember the first movie version which came out in the '50s. I was about 10 or 11 and it gave me nightmares for weeks. The remake with Tom Cruise a couple of years back simply didn't measure up to the original. But this Compressedfilms version is simply awesome! The 21st century version of the original Orson Wells radio broadcast. Out bloody standing!
Some 30 years on from when Jeff Wayne brought out this album, War of the Worlds still frightens me. I was not even 10 years old. What can I say but I look forward to being reminded of the awe of this story when you bring part 5 out! Brilliant!
Fantastic, probably the best series of fan made films I've ever seen on YouTube. Very much looking forward to the next part. I wonder if Jeff Wayne has seen these? Brilliant stuff.
i notice some fans have a few quibbles, but idont think they should be taken to literally richard, your doing a immense job on your budget, more power to your elbow mate!!
This is great stuff, yet again you came up with the goods! Keep at it! Your doing a grand job! 5/5!!! Also with your tripod effects their was one were it didn't touch the ground whilst walking, its barely noticable!!! But apart from a few mistakes it is awesome!! 5 outta 5!!! i would give 500 outta 5 but the rating wouldnt let me!
Mr K absoloutely genius. as you know thats one step away from maddness. looks good sounds good. as always fantastic, looking forward to all your future work. a friend and having seen your other pieces a fan. Pat Bz
Richard this really is an excellent film and the series is great, but the timing of the music is all off. If you were to listen to the actual album then Forever Autumn doesn't start until you hear the chimes of Big Ben (7minutes and 15 seconds in) so most of this was still part of The Art
its supoosed to be victorian time mind mate

Aren't the "guns" MLRS launchers? I guess they work, because I believe they are considered artillery.

WOW!!!WOW!!!WOW!!!

Ive just posted on the part 5 but I will on this too....this really is great stuff..well done and yes, it beats that travesty that Pendragon did by a country mile.
damian4456 3 years ago
fantastic work :)
cadpaul 3 years ago

Brilliant!

This is great stuff, yet again you came up with the goods! Keep at it! Your doing a grand job! 5/5!!! Also with your tripod effects their was one were it didn't touch the ground whilst walking, its barely noticable!!! But apart from a few mistakes it is awesome!! 5 outta 5!!! i would give 500 outta 5 but the rating wouldnt let me!

richard as with the previous 3 episodes pure class mate cant wait for march all the best
robbos5 3 years ago
Richard this really is an excellent film and the series is great, but the timing of the music is all off. If you were to listen to the actual album then Forever Autumn doesn't start until you hear the chimes of Big Ben (7minutes and 15 seconds in) so most of this was still part of The Art
