@WILDxNOOB he could have been if he had a real team in his prime. He had to score for his team to win so he ended up being more shooting guard/small forward than a point gaurd. imagine if stockton had to score 30 a night every night and try to work other players into the game who were non all-star veterans or college kids who would eventually become just good enough to almost be all stars years after he left.
@KoreanSushi1998 Rose and Rondo havent been in the league long enough to be on the list. I would put chris paul in my top 10 but i can understand why some people don't. Hes never had the talent around him that these other guys do so he hasnt been able to make an impact in the playoffs yet.
AI is more of a 2 guard, he played shooting guard the majority of his career and was more a scorer than passer. I'd say he'd be in the top 10 shooting guards for sure though.
Me the thing is 4 more we can see about them, noone expept them can have a real opinion, cause allgive his lil bunch of sand to the sport, and is not a question of Who has to be in a top pten or not, the mistake is that u cant mesure different players and made a rank of it, u have to enjoy what they give "every single thing" and be glad to see it, no comparission possible, but in ther e ages he gives thebest to make Bktball what it is today, and they "ALL" are LEGENDS, ty
@estalling He played both bitch. Even when he played sg he brought the ball up the court, he has some of the best handles in the history of the nba, and wasn't a bad passer either. I know basketball fag, played and watched it all my life
Great List...but the list is missing Allen Iverson for some strange reason. And I think Gary Payton is under-appreciated. One of only 3 guards to win Defense Player of the Year. He belongs higher on the list for sure.
@mcentepede Allen Iverson is a shooting guard! Eric Snow was the starting point for all those seasons. Being short with ball handling skills does not make you a point guard!
@dal4018 I love Jason Kidd, don't get me wrong, and i don't even have a problem with rating Kidd ahead of Nash although i personally wouldn't. But Nash's game lacks imagniation? Are you kidding me!? Most creative point guard of all time offensively.
@dal4018 I know, Big O is the best then Nash then Kidd But by far Big O is the greatest, Thats why I cant believe that Nash & Kidd were rated better than him
@nicchawla How so to me Nash's passes were more predictable than Kidd's as stated before Kidd had more imagination and more size. When Nash was in Phoenix and in the playoffs he wore down when playing against bigger guards see KOBE BRYANT
@dal4018 Nash can pass in ways that kidd cant i mean when you look at kidd when he was in new jersey opponents could make out kidds passes mainly to vince carter, richard jefferson or Bostjan Nachbar and that is why they couldn't get far
@dal4018 Thats because east coast teams are way easier to beat then west coast teams. If nash was on a east coast team he would have won a championship too. The west coast has San antonio, Dallas, LA, at that time the hardest team to beat on the east coast was the pistons. also everytime kidd got to the finals he lost to a west coast team and the only reason he won a championship in 2011 was because dirk and jason terry
@nicchawla Okay granted but tell that to Michael Jordan&Scottie Pippen when they along with the Bulls ruled the NBA roost in the 90's.Of course he lost to a team on west coast can't another east coast squad for the NBA title lol,Kidd just didn't have enough talent around him in his youth to go to the NBA finals.Tim Duncan was the reason NJ lost in its only finals appearances no one on NJ 's roster big enough to guard him.
@dal4018 people see two alike players and then classify them as the same type of player but its like comparing michael jordan to kobe bryant or lebron james there playing styles are the same but there is a huge difference between them. I think that Nash is alike Stockton in many ways but he isn't the new john stockton hes actually the first in the mvp point guard breed. Anyway check out my video it's on my profile. It's the top 12 point guards in my opinion check it out and let me know.
@nicchawla Hey when it comes to point guards being league MVP Nash can thank somebody named ROBERT MARTIN COUSY.He was the first guard to have that honor bestowed upon him.
Wtf? Jason Kidd and Nash are better than Isiah? No way no how! 1. Oscar-he averaged a triple double! 2.Magic-Great passer, played multiple positions 3.Isiah-Fierce competitor, underrated passer 4.Kidd-Most creative passer I ever saw 5.Stockton-Consistent for 17 yrs 6.Frazier-Second to Payton as a defender 7.Payton-Great defender, more of a scorer than a passer 8.Tiny-Led the L in scoring and assists at like 5'10 9.Tim Hardaway-besl legit handles ever 10.Nash
this list was fuck from the moment i saw stockton wasnt number 1 he obviously was the best pure point to ever run an offense him malone were the best ponit/foward combo to ever hit the the hardwood the only combo that came close would be another point on the list steve nash and amare stodimire these two pairs pretty much created and made the pick&roll famous
I think Nash is overrated. He is a top-10 offensively: one of the top playmakers, passers and shooters of alltime; but a point-guard must to defend! And the Nash approach to defense is awful...
@agiannastasio i admit nash is not too good at defense but a point guards main job is to run the offense not the D but if he did play lockdown defense he might be higher on the list but dont get it confuse, in no way shape or form is nash overated buddy
@juelzsantanashamar I (and maybe most of coaches) think that defense is crucial. Specially in a PG: a man that needs the respect from every team-mate. Stock is the best pure PG for that reason: an offensive director and a cluch defender.
Well, that's not a comparison, Nash' style of play the game is unique, and really beautiful. Maybe I wrong, but I think he's overated sometimes: his career really deserves 2 MVPs?
agree with this list buuuut..oscar robinson should be second...nd jason kidd should be like 5th...but yea anyday ervin "magic" johnson is by far the greatest of all time
Everyone needs to watch a Jason Williams highlight video, or someone who knows basketball at all knows White Chocolate is in the top 5, best passing 1 guard the game has ever seen made Stockton look stupid just like every other point!
this list is fuckin bullshit!!! JASON WILLIAMS TOP 5, racist fucks! he was a passing 1 guard and started the passes you see Rondo, Rose all these points now adays doing J Williams is better than Payton & Kidd!
Oscar Robertson, throughout his career, played shooting guard most of the time. Undoubtedly one of the best players in NBA history, bot not really a point guard.
@elfey2 Not true; he was a point guard who also scored a lot. IMHO the greatest point guard ever. If he'd had a better supporting cast with the Royals, who knows what his numbers could have been.
@Jojoguy121 the guy didn;t even win a fucking title and you wanna put him as no 1?Are you fucking kidding us here ?Magic if he wasn't injured in 1989 finals he would have 6 rings instead of five and if he had not retired coz of HIV maybe he would have won one more title, then he would have been above jordan too, and now you come and tell us to put stockton no1?What are you?His coussin or something?
This list isn't bad but I think you have to have isiah thomas over Steve Nash.
I'm so impressed by most of these guys. Kidd, Stockton, Payton, Isiah thomas, Nash, all found ways to be great basketball players without a lot of height or athleticism, which is impressive.
I mean, some of them might have been quick, but they weren't freakish.,
Not that AI would be way up high on this list, but why does everyone say he's not a pg? People are idiots, just cause you don't rack up assists and you're a sick scorer doesn;t make you an sg. Last time I checked, AI brought the ball up most of his career, therefore he is a pg.
Top ten pgs: 10. Lenny Wilkiens 9. Gary Payton 8. Walt Frazier 7. Nate "Skate" Archibald 6. J Kidd 5. Bob Cousy 4. John Stockton 3. Isiah 2. Magic 1. Big O
Oscar Robertson averaged 30.5 points per game over his first 7 years in the NBA, higher than the career averages of 30.1PPG for Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain. He averaged a triple double over an entire season, something no one else has ever done - and averaged a triple double over his first 5 seasons. His career averages are 25.7ppg, 9.5apg, 7.5rpg (7.5 - a PG?) - no one has ever bested those averages over a single season and those are career averages. He has to be #1 on any credible list.
@Sovnarkom Not to mention he was scoring over 30PPG before the adoption of the 3 point line unlike Dr.J, Jordan or Iverson. He was also leading the league in assists when they were only counted if the shooter scored immediately after receiving the pass, without any steps or dribbles. In Magic Johnson and John Stockton's NBA an assist is awarded provided only that the shooter's immediate intention, upon receiving the ball, was to shoot and that intention was maintained until the shot was taken.
Sorry but this is the most horrible list ever. you must be new. how you got Isiah at #6 is beyond the scope of reality. Isiah was only out done by magic and barely, isiah actually a better clutch player then magic with starting with a horrible team ended up with 2titles and went 3 years in a row . magic #1 isiah#2 big o #3 stockton#4 jkidd#5 nash#6
I love Jason Kidd, he had a long great career and was a phenomenal defender and rebounder, but in terms of his offensive skills (scoring+passing) Stockton, Isiah, Nash, Kevin Johnson, young Tim Hardaway even Chris Paul and Deron Williams were all better.
Yeah, he's right- Kidd's too high on the list. Ahead of Oscar Robertson? Please. This is an all-time list. If you don't know Oscar, you don't know all-time great.
There is only one point guard that can be justified to be put ahead of Oscar Robertson, and that's Magic because of his rings (and flair). Oscar was the one who set the bar for modern point guards. (Actually, the term "point guard" wasn't even in use then- they were called "playmakers"). He was the first to average 10 assists per game and also played great defense to go with being the greatest scoring point guard of all time. There was no weakness in his game.
First 5 should be Magic, Oscar, Allen Iverson, Gary Payton, Isiah Thomas. These guys revolutionized the point guard position in some way. The rest of the list can be argued. Personally, I would choose next, Kidd, Stockton, Archibald, Walt Frazier, Coosie.
@mcentepede I think your list is pretty good although AI was really a shooting guard and is the one who doesn't belong here. Great guard, but not a point.
I know he's before most of your times, but for those of you who are like "Oscar who?" just chew on this: After his first 5 full seasons in the NBA here are Oscar Robertson's total per-game AVERAGES; 30 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Don't take my word- look it up and do the math. Then show me somebody else in the history of the NBA who has ONE season that matches it.
Where's A.I he's absolutly the best... I will give him number zero place because i can't even compare others to him.... He starded it all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The revoliution is here man!!! Every PG in NBA is using his moves how in the world you made this list???????? With your eyes closed ?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@MrJuozas9 AI didn't make this list, b/c he wasn't a PG, but a SG. Come on now. I like AI, but can you really say he was better than Isiah Thomas, J. Stockton or Magic Johnson. Those guys made everyone around them better and could score if needed to. Allen Iverson mostly was a scorer. Steve Nash could've made this before A. Iverson.

Isiah was only out done by magic and barely, isiah actually a better clutch player then magic with starting with a horrible team ended up with 2titles and went 3 years in a row . magic #1 isiah#2 big o #3 stockton#4 jkidd#5 nash#6

I LOVE the list, J-KIDD > Stockton.
If J-Kidd played with Malone i bet he would be better than Stockton.
I missed those J-Kidd K-Mart ally ops :(

I love Jason Kidd, he had a long great career and was a phenomenal defender and rebounder, but in terms of his offensive skills (scoring+passing) Stockton, Isiah, Nash, Kevin Johnson, young Tim Hardaway even Chris Paul and Deron Williams were all better.

Jason Kidd is top 7- before without a championship. And now he's got a championship in Dallas, i think he now belongs to the top 5.
Magic, Oscar Robertson, Stockton, Isiah Thomas, Kidd.

A fun quiz for you. In NBA history, over a four year period, four players have averaged 20 points and 10 assists. -Who are they?
emmettk 10 months ago
John Stockton is the BEST
legendkillerpunt 10 months ago
In my opinion Stockton is better than Kidd
Magic23Valosh 10 months ago
Yeah, he's right- Kidd's too high on the list. Ahead of Oscar Robertson? Please. This is an all-time list. If you don't know Oscar, you don't know all-time great.
emmettk 10 months ago
maybe a little too much love for Kidd, but a pretty good list.

where is pete maravich?
doctorfresh11 11 months ago
There is only one point guard that can be justified to be put ahead of Oscar Robertson, and that's Magic because of his rings (and flair). Oscar was the one who set the bar for modern point guards. (Actually, the term "point guard" wasn't even in use then- they were called "playmakers"). He was the first to average 10 assists per game and also played great defense to go with being the greatest scoring point guard of all time. There was no weakness in his game.
emmettk 11 months ago
First 5 should be Magic, Oscar, Allen Iverson, Gary Payton, Isiah Thomas. These guys revolutionized the point guard position in some way. The rest of the list can be argued. Personally, I would choose next, Kidd, Stockton, Archibald, Walt Frazier, Coosie.
mcentepede 11 months ago
@mcentepede I think your list is pretty good although AI was really a shooting guard and is the one who doesn't belong here. Great guard, but not a point.
emmettk 11 months ago
@mcentepede yeah iverson did alright. by being a 2 guard
Netburner23 8 months ago
I know he's before most of your times, but for those of you who are like "Oscar who?" just chew on this: After his first 5 full seasons in the NBA here are Oscar Robertson's total per-game AVERAGES; 30 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Don't take my word- look it up and do the math. Then show me somebody else in the history of the NBA who has ONE season that matches it.
emmettk 11 months ago
Where's A.I he's absolutly the best... I will give him number zero place because i can't even compare others to him.... He starded it all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The revoliution is here man!!! Every PG in NBA is using his moves how in the world you made this list???????? With your eyes closed ?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You suck man!!!
MrJuozas9 11 months ago
@MrJuozas9 AI didn't make this list, b/c he wasn't a PG, but a SG. Come on now. I like AI, but can you really say he was better than Isiah Thomas, J. Stockton or Magic Johnson. Those guys made everyone around them better and could score if needed to. Allen Iverson mostly was a scorer. Steve Nash could've made this before A. Iverson.
wjking1974 11 months ago 2
No Allen Iverson? :\ Thats a insult to him..and Kidd at 2? Steve Nash is way better!
kingroshik 1 year ago
1. Magic Johnson
2. John Stockton
3. Jerry West
4. Mark Jackson
5. Isaiah Thomas
6. Walt Frazier
7. Jason Kidd
8. Gary Payton
9. Bob Cousy
10. Steve Nash
