Holy shit. This guy was a fucking genius in the 60/70's, and just as every other performer, he fell in the shallow 80's trap. To mention a few that made the best music there is to find in the 60/70's, and then turned to shit in the 80's: Robert Plant, Eric Clapton, Grace Slick/Jefferson Airplane that became J. Starship, Santana, and Joe Cocker. A message to the 80's: please get the fuck out of here.
The chorus was not "prerecorded". However, there may be additional prerecorded backing vocals, and there are clearly backing vocalists on hand. There is also definitely some prerecorded, or "sequenced" music, (drums, electronic bass, etc.). For me, the most important is that the synth, organ and lead vocals are all LEGIT!
I've seen Steve in concert twice... and I've NEVER heard another artist that sounds as good live as they do in the studio... but Steve does it every time. AMAZING. A true MUSICAL GENIUS!!!
No the vocals are run though the board. You usually pull away when you hit high or loud notes. Just about everyone upthere is doing backups There is a click in the background disguised as a high hat. Its a bass midi and an arpeggiator but its live other than the high hat click. You can here the mistakes for heavensakes who preprogs mistakes :-). He's just a good artist with an amazing band
my 3 year old LOVES LOVES LOVES this song ,... have had to play it in the car over and over again for the last 2 weeks :) girl got taste . Hes playing here next month (Perth Australia) and I sooooooooooooooo want to take her.
@taleinz1 We have a 5 year old boy who loves the song too! Maybe a new generation who understands music again?! All the best to you guys Down Under, have a nice spring over there!
@rrwrrwrrwrrw cheers ... the trick is introducing them to music that you dont hear on the radio now. She also loves Toto "Gorgy Porgy" ... mind you it helps when thats all I listen to. All the best for your up coming months .. hope your winter is a kind one. (assuming thats where you are). Weather here is Perthfect :)
Winwood uses a large crew to supplement live what he plays on his albums all by himself! The man's pop sensibilities are second to none, but what I love about the guy is when he plays live, he features the deep Traffic cuts with extended solos.
What a tight band, ridiculously excellent vocals from Stevie. Would have loved to have seen this live. I hate the name Valerie, but it really doesn't matter whose name he is singing, He is amazing. Wonder what he's up to these days?
Steve looks a little like Christopher Reeves at times.

Que perfeccion para tocar en vivo, hasta parece playback pero no, son exelentes musicos y grande Steve Winwood...

almost too perfect on vocals. Not calling him a lip syncher but that was so damn close to the album cut.
speilmen230 4 months ago
@speilmen230 Almost... but you can tell it's not the album. Nuances here and there.
movkalo 4 months ago
@speilmen230 the chorus was definitely prerecorded. see how he steps away from the mic, yet the volume barely changes
markus24q 2 months ago
@markus24q Yes, surely. Live vocal on the verse, but he's definitely either singing over the track (quietly) or laying out entirely on the chorus.

@oneznzeroz Yeah, from 1980 to 88 he gradually morphed from Conan O'Brien into Willem Dafoe.
