  • Just bought one of those today at the local Pawn Shop, She was "a battered lady", but it was all cosmetic and she cleaned up really well, there are a few differences between what you're showing and the version I bought, biggest is it's CPM 440V , I know nothing about steel types but from what little research it sounds like it's desired, this just might be the blade that gets me motivated enough to post a vid heh :) like the review, love the Knife

  • @HvinnyTheViking Depending on the condition of that blade it could be worth alot.

  • A classic and a must have

  • Just got this and I love it;)

  • From 2:50 to 3:32 I totally disprove of that entire statement.

  • On sears (.) com the digi camo is like 96 bucks :D

  • @PhillieBRidin Gotta be the paramilitary not the full size military

  • @Kylef7735 It was the fullsize, i dont see it anymore though ;<

  • I wonder what it would look like if you ground the camo off :3

  • What is the strongest standard locking mechanism?

  • @Gewehr7 a balisong...

  • @cutlerylover very true. . . . I meant like a normal folder. Where I live I am not allowed to carry balisongs or even knives of that size.

  • @cutlerylover I also do not have the money to get a balisong lol altho I would love to get one.

  • @cutlerylover second strongest????

  • @Gewehr7 paratrooper design, more practical woudl be 4rd in my opinion the cold steel triad lock, then framelock, then lockback...

  • @cutlerylover ok thank you. I once had a bad run in with a cheap Gerber with a terrible liner lock. I didnt want that to happen again. Take care.

  • @cutlerylover so there endura have a stronger lock? no one really compares the spyderco locks

  • @cutlerylover Holy s*$t you mean tex grebner, AKA derek grebner, AKA the guy on tosh.o who shot himself in the thigh?

  • @ghostie234 lol yeah and? he only trolls 80% of my videos, lol were friends he a good guy at heart

  • @cutlerylover I didn't mean anything by it, I just thought it was hilarious that THAT'S the guy bashing spydercos, they're one of my favorite brands of all time.

  • @cutlerylover where could i find a cheep military with the digital woodland camo??

  • everyone should pool their money and buy you a new video camera

  • my tip snaped but i hit mine on a peice of metel:(

  • i just got one of these and I LOVE IT!!!

  • it'd be nice if you could make a video explaining the different steel types used in knives.

  • I've cut MANY plastic straps, and i have found that the BEST knife for cutting those is my Spyderco Tasman Salt. A fully serrated hawk bill

  • Hey man what would you prefer? the spyderco military or the cold steel espada medium? I dont know what to give to my son for his graduation gift, lol

  • If I was in a knife fight, which I have been for defense reasons; I naturally go into an ice-pick motion.

  • I live in Italy and here the Military costs about 200€ and I'm a big fan of this blade.

Should I get this knife even if I'm not Bill Gates (not at all)?

    Thanks.

  • i think people are interested in the trades let us know what you traded and such

  • Probably a dumb question, but i was curious if that lanyard bracelet serves any type of purpose or if it is just a bracelet? Also Jeff, I have started building my knife collection, and I was wondering your thoughts on how i should store my knives as they are starting to just decorate my dresser. Ha, thanks buddy.

  • My came in the mail today (same as this video but black blade), super nice blade. Out of the box it is sharper than my Fallkniven A1 and ESEE 5... and those are sharp.

    Good vid.

  • The handle pattern is pretty similar to USMC woodland MARPAT

  • Jeff, I bought a Ti-Mil and the blade isn't centred on my knife. When you adjusted the pivot to centre your blade, did you have to tighten or back it out? Strangely, my blade only centres when I tighten it, but by then, the pivot is so tight that the blade doesn't deploy quickly or smoothly.

  • bought one for $85 bucks shipped good deal?

  • It is a beautiful knife indeed! A bit out of my price range, though!

    Great video, as always! :D

  • lol ifa ima get ina knife fight ima dual weild these

  • @bigmeatieballs Dude, learn to write.

  • @PelataasNytPRKL IDIOT can u tell i wrote that on purpose to just fuck around god ur dum

  • what would u recommend as an inexpensive but still good quality knife from spyderco?

  • pg 10 of the comments tex and jeff argueing lol. better than hbo and comedy central combined

  • this is my only expensive knife, just feels awesome and like he says it would be great as a defense.

  • so are you religious?

  • It's true softer steel is tougher steel, harder steel is more brittle.

  • I think you mean the scales are translucent, not opaque, if someone hadn't said already.

  • @MrLetsPlayHD lmao yeah opaque it l;iteraly the oposite of translucent.haha, oops

  • @cutlerylover yeah, hahaha, I was looking and thought to myself "no jeff, i'm pretty sure that's nooot what you mean" heh, cheers.

  • @cutlerylover transparent would be the opposite to opaque and translucent is kind of the middle ground i guess not hating just saying

  • @cutlerylover actualy translucent is 50% clear while transparent is clear

  • AUS-8 is decent steel if you need the toughness to beat on things, but other than that it's not a clean steel; I'd know because trying to sharpen both my SOG Flash 1 and Cold Steel Ti-Lite, their edges aren't as clean and are more toothy than my 440C, Acuto+, and BG-42 knives.

  • You make such informative videos. Keep it up :D

  • I use to like cold steel, until I got my hands on some Spydies. After that I have not bought another folder from cold steel. Yea they may not be as tough but they are sharper, lighter, and usually have some sort of story about the designer or user behind them. Not that that last part really counts for much but it's cool to know about the people who make the knives now and then.

  • broken tip? get cold steel at coldsteel "dot" com

  • I will be getting the one with the black blade soon.

  • this knife is pretty much #1 on my "want" list. Same one; digi-camo looks great.

  • @zigagman have a really really good reason as to why u would need a ccw

  • I like the digital camo over the black, hope they bring a lefty version of that!

  • i have one question, have you ever had to defend yourself with a weapon

  • hahah you sound like ONLYUSEmeBLADE

  • The bigger the better. I would carry a claymore if I could.

  • they shouldn't be used as a pry bar lolol

    knifes have various uses,

prying isn't really what they were made for lol

it's your knife, do w/e you want with it.

if you want to try and fill your car tire with your knife,

    do it lol

  • If you use this in a hypothetical knife fight, I'd be more scared of the blade switch back in and cut my hand... Idk some may have some sort of blade lock but that would be my only concern

  • Do you get any free rotation on the pivots d-bolt?

  • It's a q-tip? great review, thanks Jeff

  • Tip down. :\ Dealbreaker.

  • would you ever consider going back to college for a degree?

  • hahaha i edc a X2 Voyager (not for self defence...i hope i never have to use it for that) but because i feel "you can do a small job with a large knife but you cant do a large job with a small knife" hahaha and no that wasnt qouted from nutnfancy XD

  • At the 5:14 mark I think it would have been appropriate to say that people need to get a fixed blade if they plan to use their knives like that, it only seems logical. :P

  • Review a ka-bar! And what's your opinion of the next gen ka-bar's stainless steel?

  • awesome review dude!

  • I've attempted that rear hold on some of my knives. Feels okay, but I think snap cuts are as far as I'd personally push that grip. Do you have any info on the coated version of the Military? I'm concerned with the durability of the coating, for those cases when constant rubbing on the handles/liners can't be avoided.

  • That's definitely a beautiful knife, and the grip looks quite comfortable. The digital camo looks interesting as well.

    Great review, as usual. =)

  • Awesome blade shape!

  • man i love that knife and im trying to get my hands on one. Also i think if you are going to hold the knife like that in a "situation" i would recommend a paracord lanyerd

  • im not a huge fan of spydercos but that is sweet

  • sometimes you can be in a situation where all you can use for a pry bar is your knife and you have no choice but to use it as such. if this occurs and your knife breaks but you still get the job done...who cares, the knife has done its job. if you know you will be in this kind of situation why dont you have a small pry bar? i agree with you 100%. also i agree aus8 is a great steel.

  • My favourite Spyderco model.

  • What knife defensive techniques do need, you carry a glock.

  • @mrgunandknife There's no reason not to explore every option you have, and never to rely only a single thing. Tell that to military folks who carry bayonets, knives, and tomahawks for back-up combat purposes.

  • @DemonHide Believe me i know what military folks carry but im saying if someone jumps you what are you gonna reach for your knife or glock?

  • @mrgunandknife I'm goin' for the Glock first! I have some lethal options I can go to after that if necessary, one of them is the knife. A full defensive load-out would also include at least one back-up gun as well. They have purposes not only in case your main weapon fails or you fail with it, but also as a way to retain your main weapon if someone, say, captures the action and tries to disarm you or something of that nature.

  • You take so long with your videos, even your camera can't put up with it. lol

  • LOL I did ask tex about his name..........no responce XD I will probably send a message asking some time, when I get a little more curious :)

  • hey jeff u said u wanted a truck in an old video rite? this mite be ridiculous but have to tried to trade ur car for a truck? lol

  • Check out mauriziogarzia

  • i have that problem with my kershaw blur... i took it apart and tried to fix it but it still is the same way, i knew it had to be a problem with the pivot screw so i messed with it and its still the same way any tips? :(

  • @BEANS19930 put some locktite on the pivot then choose your preferred tightness :)

  • the only reason i wouldnt buy this knife in an instant is the fact that it's only tip down carry D< SPYDERCO make a spyderco military TWO.

  • I need one of these for Arizona!

  • For a good review on AUS 8 performance, check out the video "black rock hunter.mpg" by GrinderMagee.

    AUS 8 is awesome.

  • @AutobahnGamingCinema saw his video shows AUS8 is just ok, the military will out perform the recon 1 in cardboard cutting any day, better slicer, better edge geometry, better steel

  • @cutlerylover Agreed. AUS8 is way too soft.

  • @cutlerylover Agreed. AUS8 is way too soft.

  • @AutobahnGamingCinema I honestly don't like AUS8. Poor edge retention.

  • Looks like a CRKT copy.

  • If you hold your knife like that in a knife fight, my bet is on the other guy,

  • @TheNYCWatch the likelyhood Ill be in a knife fight is slim considering I carry a gun, but I have researched knife defense for years, this technique isnt as far fetched as some may think

  • @TheNYCWatch The benchmade onslaught, a tactical knife, was designed to be gripped that way in a defensive situation.

  • I really really like my Military and also my D2 Para Military, have been carrying my Para lately and fell in love with it all over again

  • "my tip broke off prying my window open. what a piece of junk"

response "no shit sherlock it's not a cold steel recon scout"

    lol

  • I get into at least 22 knife fights a week.

  • Cool knife

  • Nice. Just posted a knife vid. Let me know what u think.

  • Very Cool Blade! Spyderco Military is the Beast. You goota just be in the mood to carry the Miliatry. Great video!

  • Not all of cold steel knives use soft steels, their premium knives use vg-1, which is practically the exact same thing as vg-10. Same composition, same company, maybe different treatments.

  • @gabe562 actually, cold steel's current folders almost all use AUS 8 steel. They've effectively discontinued their use of VG-1 which is really too bad.

  • @gabe562 Whoa whoa whoa dude. Saying VG-1 is the same as vg-10 is like saying that 440J is the same as 440C. Not at all. Cold steel most likely counted on people assuming this. In reality, vg-1 has less Mo, no Co, no V, and no Mn. VG-1 has Nickel, but VG-1 is by far an inferior steel comparing the two.

  • Softer steels are also typically stronger too. Wont bend and are better for in the field use bc you can sharpen them with a typical pocket sharpening stone.

  • @gabe562 softer steel WILL bend easier, thats why they are used better to have a rolled edge or bent tip then no edge or no tip

  • Do you ever use the wave mod on your spyderco's? By putting a zip tie or paracord as seen on my buddy's channel (survivalknowhow) in the spyder hole.

  • how do you fix the off centered blade cause my tenacious is like that, i adjust the pivot screw and nothing changes?

  • @frank123612 try to loosing it up and tighten it and watch how the blade moves as you do it. i fixed mine the same way jeff described. but centering of the blade is also overrated. especially with linerlocks. the liner pushes on the side of the blade so naturally it tends to go more to the side...

  • i just realized who u remind me of if u ever watch heroes pay attention and watch till a cop named matt comes in lol thats u he looks like u and has the same voice lol

  • What is the size comparison to the new Resiliance?

  • COLD STEEL! Long Live Lynn Thompson.....

  • COLD STEEL!

  • I remember when you made the first video with this blade, I see the camouflage didn't wear off, also you can never have too big a knife lol

  • @RockMySrocks and thats coming from a prepubescent child, FOAD

  • So what your saying is that somebody could spend $130 of their hard earned money for a knife, with a relitively weak locksystem. and A blade that is prone to snapping and chipping. you just keep opening your boxes with them spydercos.

  • @derekgrebner87 what can I say other than some people drive 50mph to work in their porche...if your happy with your gremlin than hurray for your team, lol

  • @cutlerylover fuck you jeff. why spend hard earned money, more money on something that is less tough? So you say a knife is a tool, well the knife is a tool so use the fucking knife like a tool! I am sorry but, I know for a fact that I would totally fuck up a spyderco in under a weak, and thats not deliberately trying to fuck it up. that what dont bend must break. and what Good is a broken fuckin knife! Its got a weak lock! and a breaking steel. Sounds like a fucking waste of money!

  • @derekgrebner87 who said the lock is weak? Hard to go by what ifs, you put done spyderco alot conciderng you never held one before, its easy to critique something you dont own, I want to say Lamborghini are pieces of shit, my honda gets me to work just fine and I didnt over pay for it, but that would be an ignorant statement wouldn't it...

  • @cutlerylover I can say its shit, because I have no plans to own the fucking knife. but logically fuck it. if i ever fucking visit your fat ass, I will bring my cold steels and give them to you, and you give me your spydercos. you try to fuck up my shit and I try to fuck up your shit! and we see whos blade comes up on top! you wont tho! because you know your shit wont hold up under tex fucking grebners hands!

  • @derekgrebner87 talk is cheap, right tool for the job, thats all it comes down to, do you like striders? some say its overprices bullshit, you will have to agree since they use S30V right? too ham hard ands brittle to use hard, just a piece of shit, I just want to hear you say it or in this same read you write it...

  • @cutlerylover Tix is gettin an awful lot of traffic of your vids jeff. if someone is to dumb to use a prybar screwdriver or chisel instead of their knife to do a job then they arent going to appreciate spydercos thinner blades. I personally like my blades to CUT stuff well. Ioll go to the truck if I need a tool that isnt for cutting.

  • @cutlerylover how can one say linerlock is weak? tell me one REALISTIC situation when you can actually make a lock of the folder fail. name one! thats not talking against you jeff, just made @ you reply so you can see it. i have many knives, all kinds of brands and use them daily and had a lot of thoughts before about all this "lock talk". and i was never able to think of a situation when i would have to be worried if my lock can hold 50 or 500 pounds. its all overrated....

  • @gavkoo it will fail whe nhacking at a tree, another thign people are not suppose to do with folding knives, again cold steel advertises there knives to do more than what knives are for...

  • @cutlerylover thats not really a fail since the knife doesn't close on you. when you are whacking right you are whacking with blade so positive force on the opening mechanisms, not against the lock, no? so how can it fail you?

  • @gavkoo putting that much pressure on the lock even in the opposite way loosens parts, you will create up and down play which will allow any locking mechanism to slip and fail with little pressure on the opposite direction...

  • @cutlerylover well but as far as i know, mostly it loosen up sideways which can be easily corrected by pivet crew. and if you create such a force to mess up up and down play, then you just misused the knife.doesnt mean the lock was weak. and just like you said.only if you dont know what and when to use, you break stuff... if i'll go chop, ill take a fixed blade. if ill run into such a emergency that i would have to chop with my folder, i wouldnt really care if it would be messed up afterwards

  • @gavkoo exactly my point...

  • @cutlerylover but i dont have to tell you all this. you da man brother, you da cutlerylover. thanks for replies and good convo. be well, stay safe jeff

  • @derekgrebner87 Hey when was the last time you used a knife on something were you needed a massively strong knife ...btw jeff cut a 3" tree down with a spyderco. If YOU need a Massive knife for what you use them for ok but most of us dont

  • @derekgrebner87 Just wanted to point out that a lot of people want to spend more on knives in order to have a collection of value, even after use. Its nice to have nice things. Its also nice to take cash and turn it from liquid currency to something that will hold its value, and something people will want to buy or trade for at a latter date, not something that they could easily buy new.

  • Is that a new watch

  • Love that Digital Camo.. very cool

  • HEY JEFF.

my sog flash 2 pockect clip sucks it bent out 3 times now!!!! i hate it

  • big knives can do everything a small knife can but small knives cant do everything a big knife can

  • should i get a benchmade mini griptillian or a benchmade 530 for edc?

  • I also have the digicamo Military, it is one of my favourite knives in my (too large) collection. It is light considering the size yet largely sturdy enough.

  • @MrDagon007

How is it too large? I don't even think the Cold Steel Espada XL is too large! lol

  • Mentioning hawkbill blades, do you think you'll hund down a Superhawk at some point?

  • @YoDudu oh man you are on my wave!!!

im looking to buy a blackhawk garra 2 and a superhawk!!!!

  • im getting mine soon

  • @knifelover94 oh how much did you pay???

  • @12345678927164 like 147 shipped

  • @12345678927164 140 shiped

  • Great video man I got my wife a spydeco and she loves it.

  • My wife got me a military for Christmas 2 years ago. I have the digi camo with the black blade. Love this blade except for one thing... the camo g-10 really picks up the dirt. I used mine at work and it got to the point that you could barely see the pattern. I took it apart and found that the insert in the lanyard hole is actually flared in the G-10 so if you don't have to don't try to take the scales off the lanyard insert... you might not get it back together.

  • G10 is also called Green Glass, from the green appearance in "natural" G10.

  • I had a very old victorinox ( i was like 6 ) i tried to cut a 2 in thick branch of a tree and the tip broke. i was mis-using it. its not a saw. get a knife that you dont want to wreck to do that

  • where did you get all your tools to keep your knives in check? like to tighten the pivot and your leather strop and stuff? cuz i have no tools to tighten my knives and almost all off them alot of play and wobble around alot.

  • awesome, I've been waiting for this one.

  • great vid

  • is it time for twinkies yet?

  • @cheeseshoes nope not yet

  • IMO, poor choice to go with a liner lock for a military target audience.

  • Jeff, you need to get a spyderco resilience and review it!

  • Really nice review Jeff :)

  • tex is never going to hear what you said about him it a spyderco review

  • Hey Jeff, check out the Zulu if you haven't already. It's such a cool little knife. I'm very impressed with the fit and finish and the G-10 is beautifully milled in the Anso style. The ergonomics are amazing as well. Whoever is making knives for Spyderco over in Taiwan is doing an amazing job. All my Taiwan made Spydercos are perfect.

  • jeff are you going to do some more fishing cuz those vids are cool.

  • I agree that this knife is large but I also feel like it disappears in my pocket. I can't tell the difference in my pocket between a Millie and a Manix 2 or an Endura.

  • I love this knife thanks for the review

  • I love you cutlove <3

  • what on earth is that folding tool thing? some kind of hot sauce opener?

  • Nice! I love seeing this knife on the channel

  • Wut? On any vids I watch, all I get is audio and a green screen.

  • @zanuha Right click the video, parameters, disactivate hardware acceleration and reload the page ;)

  • The military is a big knife but it disappears in your pocket.

  • D2 with the rc drawn down below 60, with blow aus8 away in every way but corrosion resistance. But they both rust regardless, so whatever.
