@BorisHorvatable We will have these videos, his books, and our memories forever. In that way he will be no more silenced than he was while he was alive. That probably sounds awful and hackneyed but Hitchens really inspired a new assertiveness and iconoclasm that will be irreversible.
i love hitchens, followed him for a great many years, but this absolute idolasition from the audience is a bit much for me, clapping at every instant, standing ovation...it seems some of those have also put to rest their inquisitive faculties and accept everything Mr Hitchens says. He's a great man, but lets remember that he is just that, a man with great ideas, opinions and an amazing knack for wonderful rhetoric
@icedbannanas I imagine the greater number of applause breaks he receives is primarily because he is quite clearly dying. Idolisation is a bit much, i'd call it sympathy, it's difficult watching one of your intellectual and moral hero's decline.
Not only survived, but, in a way, he's THRIVED! I mean, he's got stage IV esophageal cancer. It WILL kill him, there no getting better. (that's practically the definition of "stage IV") Like he himself even said, it's not a matter of if, but rather, WHEN.
This must be one of the strongest, greatest people who've ever lived. Seriously.

@4165mc don't think that way. As far as I'm concerned it shows what an amazing guy hitchens is that he's survived this long! When I first heard hitchens was supposed to be collecting this award in October I thought it was wishful thinking he'd survive that long. How wrong I was!!
@mysql0 "no-one fcking cares." that is a flat out lie , because I care , you are the one of which is seeking something , I think you are seeking hate , glory in it for i hate what you said.
Dead-to-the-spirit deluded "God Delusion" author & blithering fool scientist goon Richard Dawkins another "leader" given 2 the profane masses is another useful idiot 4 Jesuit machinations

Papal Rome cant have their Counter Reformation Despotism 2nd Dark Age until Bible is destroyed
Hitchens is a pundit. Why does everyone describe him as if he's the pope of rationality. Dawkins is impressive, so is Dan Dennett. Hitchens, like Fukuyama has become famous for being wrong about something (iraq) and not apologizing. It's a terrible precedent really.
with a speech of such significance,it is frustrating that a better method of amplification could not have been prepared to clarify ithe sound of such a magnificent man.
I was there, but I was sitting way in the back with the SSA and couldn't quite hear most of what Hitch said. Thanks for posting the video, I understood a lot more!
@PeXis Look more closely. The paleness, the redness around his eyes....but the worst of all seems to me mental, not nearly as sharp as he once was. Even so, he's still a lot sharper than the vast majority of people
@13Xanadu Well, I admit it is tough watching Hitchens in a declining state. But I always enjoy fine polemics, speeches and lectures. And The Hitch is chief among the best. Oh, and I am an atheist living in America, so I love the juxtaposition and irony.
What a sad day, a great voice for reason and humanism is silenced forever.

You care, you are a nobody and a no-one. Therefore the statement "no-one fcking cares" is true.
