By the way, some liberals go along with the IMF, etc, but most either don't know about it or actively oppose it. The "liberal" media like the New York Times or whatever are a different story. Bits of the right oppose the IMF in the context of shutting down "big" government (that representing more than 6m or so people, presumably). How weaker government better represents the peoples' interests, I'm not clear.

Whether it's the fruit or copper industry, we need those resources in Latin America, and the American people's demand for cheap goods will make corporations go out there and secure our goods. Just like the British going all the way to China for tea, the people wanted it, and the 'evil' corporation got it. We the people benefit. And many of those down there actually get jobs for once that their government couldnt give them.
