  • Why do people constantly compare Metallica to Iced Earth?

  • this is better than anything Metallica has had in their 20+ year career. This song is just pure epicness!

  • @smiles187 metallica from black album back is better than gene's stuff, but greely was a mojor improvement, then barlow even more.

  • Fucking Greely he surely could sing!

  • 2.40 - sounds exactly like Super Mario Land pyramid music.

  • i used to listen to this band way before people know about them like today, this was one of my favorites, and "last laugh" has ot be my top 10

  • Super Mario Land cave theme at 2:40

  • The whole song is amazing, but especially the riff starting at 1.10 and the refrain are simply mindblowing.

  • The whole song is amzing, but especially the riff starting at 1.10 and the refrain are simply mindblowing

  • Amazing refrain

  • 4:52 - 4:54

    music recording fail

  • 'tallica are almost destined to be compared with every other band out there(they're mentioned in most metal videos) and that alone shows what a monster band they are.they've become the standard which other bands are judged/measured by...I mean,I love iced earth as much as the next person(Shaffer's riffing is unique/ instantly recognizable and one of the best in metal and Barlow's voice is just otherwordly),but I'd never compare them with bands of metallica's caliber.it just fails...

  • 2:27 - 3:13 I could listen to that for the whooooooole day.

  • such a shitty version. Glad they got their singer who sounded like a man back.

  • you´re not honestly discussing what band to be rather fanboy of?

  • icedearth1211 you deserve a dick in your ass and cum out of nose you little fagget

  • Iced earth will always and FOREVER be better than, lars olrich, kirk hammet, and james hetfeild, and rob truijillo in every single way. Matt barlow will always and forever be a Better singer and the same For Tim "Ripper" Owens. Jon schaffer can blow Kirk hammett out of the water. And dont make me get started on Freddie Vidales being able to thunder out Rob truijillo. and Brent smedley could easyily destroy lars olrich.

  • @Internalbleeding666 Actually, the lead guitarist for Iced Earth is Troy Seele, not Jon Schaffer. But hell fucking yes, he is a vastly superior player to Kirk Hammet. Seele's not only a capable metal shredder, but also very skilled at the blues and rock. Very versatile, which is something I doubt could be said of Mr. Wah-Wah.

That said, Jon Schaffer definitely beats the living shit out of James Hetfield in rhythm playing. ;D

  • Iced Earth. Desert Rain.

Ocean Currents. Green Forest. Big Rock.

  • does anyone know why iced earth are so crap? I mean they have their moments but this is nothing special.

They sound like some sort of operatic old metallica, but without any direction, just random riffing? wtf, let's just chuck in random, uncreative, riffs everywhere + all to obvious and tedious passages of crappy songwriting.

every iced earth song i have heard sounds like some sort of prototype, poorly structured, practice song. Somehow they caught the mainstream eye with this tripe.

  • @ThrashTillDeath322 Wtf are you saying?..If I got you right you accused their lyrics too?...THIS IS RIDICULOUS.If you said that it is obvious that you don't know them even at least.

  • @TheEtoimos well songwriting isn't only lyrics, this song has a cool chorus I have to admit though.

  • @ThrashTillDeath322 thrash till death and you are pro mainstream? honest question... iced earth puts pure passion into their music, and they became so called mainstream by gaining popularity in music purists across the world making their own music, and saying fuck you when someone wanted to change them, if you want to give criticism youtube wont change anything, not like it needs to and theyve been doing it almost 30 years and still have the same passion, music isnt a science, its an art

  • @FerrilEwok Call it art, call it passion, it's fucking shit. Honestly, I don't know how this band got out of playing in small town bars, they are just so plain and mediocre, sure their older stuff is better than their new tripe, but hardly, people make out like it's legendary, there were hundreds of bands around at the time with tenfold more to offer but never made it big because bands in the 90s with any sort of talent or originality were utterly neglected. Mediocrity seems to be worshiped.

  • @ThrashTillDeath322 You can call it mediocrity but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the first time I listened to an iced earth song was the day I became hooked, The sure force behind the riffs, and depending on the lead guitarist bassist and drummer, the power or mellow beauty behind the bass, the sheer technicality of the lead guitarist -though some never showed it- and especilly in brent smedly (the current drummer) the perfect beats for everything played.. and since matt came back as the

  • @ThrashTillDeath322 vocalist the raw emotion in his voice through his Highs lows deeps growls, like no one in existance

  • @athiestsshallburn check out theyr album the dark saga. Its awesome

  • 2:40 ...i don´t know if there was a song before the game, but this is the complete melody from super mario land level 2 !? :) Thats cool, i loved this game !!

  • @Gsus665 I made a video for that on my old account, and some other guys made the same comparison as well.

    watch?v=68MkDdb2bXg

    watch?v=Xz7sq1eaf4E

    watch?v=7bvzzCof3Sw

  • FUCKING RIFFAGE!

  • Iced Earth was the first metal band I heard back in the day, and this is the first song I heard, instantly loved them.

  • wow, this song sounds powerful, but listen to it in earphones and u feel the power a lot more, its amazing!

  • @Georgeous129 hahaha yeah.

  • simply magnificent...

  • I think it sounds like Metallica, in the same way Megadeth or Iron Maiden sounds like Metallica. It's good. I like.

    MAKE LOVE TO ME

  • Sounds like Mario Land to me

  • Listen this Super Mario Land Easton Kingdom Theme (search on youtube)

    And then listen at 2:40

    Iced earth plays mario!! XD

  • es buena la rola

  • @J05HDA

I'm sorry, but nothing could be further from the truth. Early IE does at times sound similar to some Metallica, but if anything they sound more like Annihilator. Not to even mention that after their first three albums, Iced Earth is more Power metal, not Thrash. Go listen to Horror Show, or the Glorious Burden. Nothing like Metallica at all.

  • @J05HDA Iced Earth are born out of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, not Metallica.

  • @Dungarth They took influences from both styles, making unique American power metal.

  • @J05HDA Haha no way mate ... Iced Earth are completely different and better at every aspect of metal

  • @J05HDA This user sounds just like an IDIOT.

    MORE pathetic :)

  • It's raining in Arizona right now. How fitting

  • ICED EARTH RULES!!!! i cant believe i dint know them when they had live concert her D: oh well i hope they come again :D

  • haha throwback to super mario land at 2:42

  • i find it hard to listen to just one song on this album, i seems to me that it sounds best when you listen to the whole thing in order.

  • I don't even know why Iced Earth are compared to Metallica, if anything Iced Earth have far more in common musically with Judas Priest than they do Metallica, and of course Judas Priest pre-date Metallica by many years.

  • @skullcrusher94 I liked Gene Adam's too, but Greely, Ripper, and Barlow aren't bad either.

  • @KingOfTheDead77 Barlow "not bad either"? You got to be fucking kidding me. He eats all the others alive.

  • this album is so underrated

  • @crnifico41 Hell yeah. Beats Crucible Of Man anyday.

  • whoa

its been at least 2 years since ive listened to iced earth

i forgot how good they actually were

  • @skullcrusher94 I think Gene was their best, he has such an interesting quality to his voice.

  • easily my favorite Iced Earth album. Barlow is amazing, but musically this is everything I want, and their new stuff doesn't do much for me.

This album is just so great to groove out to.

  • death angel's album act III is the best album i heard so far not even one track that i dislike

  • @tibbracing1 Fully agreed. Act III is Death Angel's best album. It's not as homogenous as their two previous were.

  • yeah man you´re right ! every band has his own sound !!!

  • Venom, overkill, and motörhead weren't thrash metal bands.

  • @AngelofDeth82 Overkill is thrash metal dumbass.

  • I think both mettallica and iced earth are awesome bands.

  • If it weren't for black sabbath no metal band would be around tony iommi the guitarist for black sabbath invented metal and other bands made other kinds of metal. Like Dave mustaine of megadeth, he used to be in metallica and invinted thrash metal and then went on to form the greatest band in the world megadeth.

  • @AngelofDeth82 Wow, now reading this comment, im shocked...Megadeth, the best band in the world?

Jesus man, they dont even come in my top 20 THRASH BANDS!

I was really hoping to have a good discussion here, but (no offense) im kind of doubting that now :(

  • Mustaine did not invent thrash metal... Thrash metal was around long before the big three with bands like Overkill, Venom, and Motorhead.

  • lol dave didn't invent thrash metal

  • Metal was inevitable.

  • @madstylex was? Is!!!!!! dude metal IS inevitable!!!

  • @montymouth97. Yeah was. The point where it began is in the past and was inevitable. It now exists, and lives!!! :P

  • @madstylex Metal is timeless and will never die.

  • Not near as good as metallica, megadeth, slayer, testament, opeth, Alice in chains, dream theater, iron maiden, or tool. It was ok.

  • @AngelofDeth82 Wow, thats a pretty ranged list, i mean you are clearly a fan of thrash, alternative, progressive and then...well Maiden.

    Maiden rule!

My point being though, some of the bands you listed are "ok" but not exceptional.

My i reccomend listening to some other progressive bands, for example...the ones that dont show up daily on kerrang ;) .

But whatever, if you have actually explored avenues, and that is your decision.

    consider it respected.

    Peace \m/

  • also, if you did enjoy the tim owens era, look into charred walls of the damned. they are a godsend. amazing. no doubt. nothing is quite as good as the old stuff, but they are still quite epic. they dont sound quite like iced earth and they left the judas priest realm to form their own sound. its nice. sure there are other bands that sound like them, but tim is amazing. anyways, metallica and iced earth own, but lets not group them together anymore okay kids? haha. latz. stay metal.

  • can someone explain to me exactly what metallica has to do with iced earth. metallica is in no way similar. if this were a testament video, i could see referencing metallica. but this is iced earth. possibly one of the best metal bands of its time. matt is an amazing singer. hetfield has started to lose his touch. matt has not at all. tim ' ripper' owens was good, but m,matt fits the band better. anyways, back on track. metallica, though good is not relevant at the moment.

  • @NephewMatt87 If you want to get technical nor Matt or Tim sings on this album. This vocalist name is "John Greely"

  • I like Metallica. But ICED EARTH is BETTER and Jon Schaffer is GOD!!!!\m/

  • I come to listen to one of the greatest bands, and i hear a bunch of posers talking about fagtallica....

  • Why the fuck are you talking about Metallica ????? Grow up you fucking Guitar hero playing 8 year olds... This is fucking Iced Earth.

  • Jon Scheffer is a GOD!!...He's soo underated as a guitarist..and he remains my idol in guitar playing for last few years, i always wanted to get his galloping riff style but its soo fuckin hard in reality. this shows how good he is, he can play 30minute songs without skipping a beat live!!...wat a monster!....

Jon if u see this know that there are fans like me who consider u more than a god!!...keep it metal \m/

  • all comments on this page are by teenage herberts!

    shitallica this shitallica that ffs.

  • Get over Metallica... I'm almost obligated to say Iced Earth is better. They don't need to be around for 30 years for you to feel the raw passion they have for music. Hardly anyone knows about them, they don't have nearly as many fans as bands like Metallica, but they love what they do and it means a lot to them. Not to say that it doesn't to Metallica, but they sold out a LONG time ago. Besides that, Iced Earth has a lot more critical thinking behind their music than Metallica anyway.

  • @IcedEarth1211 Everything after the Black Album just got lamer and lamer. Then they jumped on the RIAA bandwagon and started sueing kids for basically likeing their music. They became just more corporate rock asshats more concerned about profit. Point is they were good, but sold their soul. Iced Earth on the other hand, never lost their soul.

  • @Nagneto, everything AFTER the Black Album?

    Everything after Justice, you mean?

  • @turisas1234

Justice wasn't that great. Terrible production, good songs.

  • @turisas1234 : Ah, my bad. I forgot about Justice.

  • @IcedEarth1211 metallica didn't sell out until death magnetic...

either way they don't hold a candle to any of the greats.

    reknown =/= greatness

  • @IcedEarth1211 liking that! your right tho theres no need to say which is better just put ur head down and enjoy the music!

  • @IcedEarth1211 and you need to get over that''metallica sucks/sold out'' punchline most (pre)teenage kids throw on youtube. It's such a lame trend to bash on maybe metal's greatest band just to sound ''hardcore/cool''...no band can play the exact same music(thrash) for 30+ years straight, just because there are a few narrow minded fans who are stuck in the past...besides,this is an iced earth video,so why on earth do people bring up metallica in the first place??? wtf?! lol!...

  • @IcedEarth1211 Can't say I agree. I love the first two Iced Earth albums a lot, and they had a lot of guts to keep on doing Power/Thrash in the 90s when it was all but dead. In that regard I think Iced Earth WERE definitely commendable, but have become a twisted joke of what they once were!!

  • metallica is not playn at the same level they are just another comercial metal band back in 1980 they where amazin but now just suck

  • thats because you idiots say dumb shit like " Metallica could never play these songs. '

ICED EARTH is great but lets see if they can last 30 years like METALLICA and play at the same level

  • @wolfenx1 If you honestly fucking think Lars or Kirk have the talent to play any of these songs... you are retarded. I LOVE Metallica... but you need to get your head out of your fucking ass and realize that they ARENT an extremely talented band like Iced Earth.

  • @wolfenx1 It's funny that you say that because Iced Earth has been around for 26 years, Metallica 29 and their music has yet to fail in my eyes.

  • i like metallica but they stop playing

at the same level since the "black ablum"

  • @guillotinedeath Definately

  • this is some sexy thrash metal

  • metallica old fave..Iced Earth new one!

  • lol i like the music from the underground levels of super mario land at 2:40

  • Both bands are good but in my opinion Schaffer the king of riffs and Barlow no comments...i think rape a little bit Metallica!!!so stop compare them like idiots!Metallica is good for that they are doing Iced Earth the same!

  • You probably just explained exactly what you do all day just to make you feel better about yourself. I'm a musician too, I play drums. We play gigs at bars, nothing special, but probably better than you.

  • god dammit please one fucking video where there isnt 40 comments about metallica!!!!!

  • @RockGod152 metallica is badass, dont denie

  • I love how there's Metallica in an Iced Earth video

  • my first iced earth album ;) i was blown away by this.

  • this is totally different music man, metallica is nice but you can't compare this with metallica

  • @guitarheroSJJSD metallica is way better, these are just knock offs, i've listen to metallica ever since i was born

  • i hate when someone says that any metal band "sounds like metallica"

  • I agree. I mean, I;m a pretty big Metallica fan, but really.

  • @Deere55 you know what, metallica was around way before them, and yes, listen to master of puppetsand you tell me if the guitar sounds alike, dumbass!

  • ok, i did that. and it doesnt ...

  • @Deere55

i second that! iced earth are like gods compared to metallica

  • @Deere55 Why? Kill 'Em All is one of the best albums of all time - And yes, I do dislike everything after Ride The Lightning... Not that ICED EARTH sounds like Metallica, maybe more on the first album than on Night of the Stormrider, but being compared to Metallica's high point is a damn great compliment.

  • Not even close, i used to listen to metallica all the time, they have nothing on Iced earth

  • @SOADplox

Agreed, Iced Earth is almost magical. Metallica wishes they had something on Iced Earth.

The one and only band I like more than IE is Megadeth.

  • @1gbayfisher your words were pure gold

  • @victherattlehead77

    Hey, thanks.

    Dig your username! \m/

  • @1gbayfisher Agreed

  • @1gbayfisher Fuck Yess man,Megadeth are great

  • @1gbayfisher Agreed

  • @1gbayfisher yehhhh, that is my opinion too! Metallica died when they released their Black

  • @SOADplox You are so right.

  • Metallica is my favorite band and all... but you've got to be kidding me... this sounds nothing like Metallica...

  • @KyleJPie10 there mine too asswipe, you must have never heard metallica in your life, the good stuff anyway, if you would have listened to master of puppets, all of the distortion sounded like this, these guys just copied the tone, i'm a musician, your just a loser who sits on his couch, watchin porn, listening to what you think is "metallica", i've listen to metallica ever since i was born.

  • I've listened to Metallica ever since I was just a 4 year old. I have every album... I have heard every song well over a thousand times. So don't say shit that you know nothing about. But honestly, to say Iced Earth sounds like Metallica is ridiculous. Iced Earth is much more technical. Metallica could never play these songs. I'm not saying anything bad about them, but seriously man, pull your head outta your ass and listen. And don't tell me how I live.

  • "Metallica could never play these songs."

that is one of the dumbest comment i have ever read .

if it wasnt for METALLICA none of these new bands would have aplatform to work off of

  • @wolfenx1 You're wrong... you never know if Iced Earth would've pioneered metal or not. There isn't a single Iced Earth song that sounds even remotely similar. And believe me, kid, Metallica isn't the greatest band out there. I love 'em but honestly, there is much better talent out there. Take Iced Earth for example; Not commercially successful, but still an extremely good band with plenty of loyal fans. Very technical, deep songs with intelligent lyrics and shredding riffs.

  • And if it wasnt for motorhead for black sabbath, metallica wouldnt have a platform or even an inspiration to play at all, (and if you know alot about Met, youl know they were inspired by Motorhead) so get over it that they are not the best band. They are a thrash band, and i dont like thrash, so what are you gona do about it? And anyway, gettin away from this topic, power metal is extremely good, alot of powerful lyrics and really catchy, which is what i love :). Probs why i like IceEarth.

  • you mean if it wasnt for

    Saxon and Diamond Head

  • Mean for power metal? or for inspiration?
