How to Make Bakelite Airsoft Magazines Look Real!

@justinrockhold yeah i think you will have to buy them your self as making a magazine would be near impossible, also make sure you buy the M83 ones, they only make the 40 round ones, so just be sure :)

Bakelite magazines do not have "brush strokes" like you kids think. They have a swirl pattern. It's just a natural effect of the polymer originally used to make the magazines.

I forgot to add, on my real bakelite mags and all the other ones I have seen the brush strokes are really visible and have a semi gloss looking finish

Awesome video! I have found that dipping the brush in stain, brushing something to get most of the paint off the brush, and then brushing the mag leaves it looking more realistic IMO. Also, instead of using the poly coat just use a clear spray paint to cover the mag. This way the brush strokes of the poly coat won't remove the wood stain finish.

I compared it to my real Izmash bakelite magazine and it looks pretty close. Again, awesome video!

What stain would your recommend for more of a "Plum" look to the mags? I've been meaning to make a Plum AK for awhile.

was the vfc mag done with the red oak or the red mohogony

No the "real steel" AK-74 shoots a different round than the AK-47 therefore the airsoft replica would not have the same size mag well.

It will fit as long as the mag catch works example. VFC/Klask has a harder time fitting against MAG as they have thicker tab

Dboys only produces Hicaps for their AK series :( but you can buy MAG midcaps for the ak series, and they will fit with little modification.

both are very commonly used, but to my knowlage, and from what i see in pictures, bakelite still ranks supreme. Though a buddy of mine, veteran in the soviet Red army, and later Russian army said the black polymer and plum magazines were viewed as a status symbol.

The MAG midcaps fit my Kalash perfectly after comrade M76 modded the mag catch on the rifle, but the mags refuse to feed any bb's at all even after fully loaded
