  • Thank you for this tribute to Shelby. I had the privilege to get to know Shelby when I interviewed her for the Pocono Record. I quickly became a fan and attended many of her shows. She was a wonderful, brilliant person who made a big impression on me. Her music was simply amazing, and I will never forget the amazing cover of Blondie's "Call Me" that she would perform at her shows. Despite the short amount of time we knew each other, I did and will always think of her as a friend. God Bless.

  • Beautiful song and video. Thank you.

  • Your voice and your writing are both exquisitely beautiful.

  • from what my mom told me shelby was my 1st gf in pre skool

  • There is a teenaged girl that used to go to my church who has an eating disorder. She's in a facility, now, to help with that, she's below 90lbs, now. People don't realize how serious eating disorders can be, I used to be one of those that didn't understand. Thank you for sharing this song, video, and Shelby's story.

For those of you who think this is an exploitative video, notice in the side bar, it thanks Shelby's mother for helping with the video. It was important to her to share.

  • fuck off

  • ugh...

that's all I can say, even though she has a decent voice it does not come across well at all during this song. Also, regardless of the author's intent, the lyrics and subject matter in general seem exploitative and pretension

  • thank you

  • I imagine you're someone who was born without talent or compassion...otherwise you wouldn't have so much hatred towards Emily (who has been one of my best friends for years), a woman who is one of the strongest, most amazing women I've had the pleasure to know. I advise you to keep your fucking mouth shut.

  • What does having talent or compassion have anything to do with something completely sucking in it's entirety? What makes her strong? What has she ever done that is so damn great? I want to know. Tell me if you would as I am dying to know. I have heard of her ideas of fun... "Lets sit around and make flyers for me!!! Yay, using people is fun!!" I guess that does make somebody amazing now, doesn't it?

  • You're the ONLY person that seems to think this video "sucks". Her talent as far as music is concerned is undebatable. Her strength comes from the fact that she has gone to hell and back, battled an eating disorder, and somehow managed to come out one of the sweetest people I know.

You obviously think you've been used by her, meaning you probably wanted to get some and she had enough self respect to turn down a complete douchebag like you.

  • hey bastard stop disturbing emily. she's an awesome person and doesn't deserve to be put down by bastards by u

  • For you, and the people here who seem to think that Emily Rose wrote a song about a songwriter with bulimia to be 'cool' or to 'steal the spotlight', or that she is being 'pretentious', I feel the need to make sure that you're aware that you have no idea what you're talking about.

Emily Rose has been battling an eating disorder of her own for well over four years. It was the reason she dropped out of college, among other things. She of all people has the right to write this song. Chill out.

  • hahahahaha

  • Moving...My heart goes out to her and her family.

As always, Emily's voice compels us to listen and be in the moment.

    Thank you Em.

  • wow. That brought tears to my eyes. You did a terrific job telling a very painful story.

Even though Shelby is no longer here, there IS hope for others. If you are looking for a safe place online for ED recovery, you are welcome to send me a friend request on Facebook to "ANAD Lori Licker." My page has ED professionals, family members and friends as members too.

Recovery IS possible. I am living proof.

  • I'm such a fan of Shelby Starner and I love that you made this video. Great song.

    em

  • I saw you on Meghan's channel and came to check you out, and wow, this is amazing. There are several people with eating disorders in my life. This is such a beautiful song.

  • Thank You for watching! Stay in touch!

  • good work.. moving

  • A very moving video...xx

  • "empty until then.."

    Heartbreaking.

  • Wow, this was beautiful.

  • I didn't think it would, but it touched me. I cried.

I used to deal with an eating disorder, was hospitalized, treated for depression over the years and have come to accept that I'm not going to be thin (even though I feel like.... don't even want to go there...)

This was a powerful song and message. I appreciate it and will definitely pass it on. =)

  • thank you

  • painful. gorgeous.

  • Stunning. I had no idea this happened to Shelby Starner. I have her CD from when it first came out. Wow.

  • gorgeous and heartbreaking.

  • I don't seem to have an e-mail :( We should definitely talk.

  • oh man, I must've sent it to a wrong email address somewhere, how can I get in touch with you?
