Were there Republican anti-abolishionists? Of course there were and I view them with the same contempt at ANY MAN or WOMAN who wishes to keep their fellow men and woman as slaves.

Even more of an abmonation to me are political leaders who work at keeping a race down, dependant and poor.......simply just to keep that "GROUP" as a wholely owned subsidiary of their power base. Senate Majority Leader Robert Byrd had been a LEADER of the Klan, a fact largely ignored by Black Americans. Go back and LOOK at the votes that were cast to pass the Civil Rights Bill. PLEASE........start learning the truth, the REAL truth about the history of Blacks in America. Learn about the Free Blacks who were an integral part in the birth of our nation and who helped to WRITE the Emancapation Proclaimation.

Slavery is an evil blot in the history of this nation but even MORe evil is that the true history is not taught & that is the reason for the bitter divide between Black & White. Jefferson wanted slavery abolished from the beginning, it WAS aboloshid under Lincoln & the Civil Rights Act was passed into law largely because of the REPUBLICANS.

Lincoln said "A nation divided against itself cannot stand", he was quite correct. A concerted effort to separate us into small, SEPARATE groups who see ourselves as victims, small groups who are taught by certain political leaders to be distrustful of each other. Add to that the "CLASS" factor and we become a nation which lacks the glue that keeps us united as one nation, UNDER GOD.
