Mumble's dream girl is Gloria who has the greatest voice of all the penguins in her generation.This song however is in the second movie.
Sadly I am here because of Happy Feet Two, but wow is this so much better! I love how the set complemented the piece and how the performer was so animated with his feelings of lost love.
Going back to the penguins, since this song is originally about love, I'd love to see a direct translation in English when Erik is older and looking for love.

For this final act of "Tosca" I got up and occupied the TV set on a Sunday morning (Remember: "close to the real time".) My parents shook their heads and my little brother declared me out of my mind, but it was just the right thing to do.
We had modest 6 TV channels back then. Why can´t one of today´s several hundred channels remember music events like this?

I watched this opera the other month and Placido Domingo was the conductor...and when this sang came up all I could think was: "I wish Domingo was doing the singing right now." No one can do this song like him.

Placido is one of the greatest opera legends alive, with a beautiful, powerful voice that can convey emotions amazingly. If he was so terrible, overrated or mediocre as his detractors state, he would have never been able to mantain such an impressive and sucessful career for so many decades, respected by his fellow artists. We should rejoice to still have him in active, he's 70 and still keep the quality of his voice and acting. Bravo Placido!

A volte mi piacerebbe tantissimo esser nata in quell'epoca, nell' era della Lirica pura , naturale ,di quella dignità dorata , maestosa, quel drammatismo vivo , ricolmo di ardore , verismo,che oggi , forse, è andato un pò perduto . Very nice, but I prefer Corelli on stage, Caruso (1904), and Bjorling (1959) to this version. I've studied all performances of this aria and the most hair-raising one I've ever heard was Caruso's 1904 recording. Nobody bared his soul better than Caruso on this aria.

What makes him no 1 in my opinion is his ability to not just perform brilliantly,

Ho imparato ad amare la lirica da bambina, grazie ad una nonna che considerava Puccini come la creatura più meravigiosa della terra.
Da italiana adoro Pavarotti, la sua voce è per me unica e inimitabile.
La sua morte è stata un colpo per chi, come me, lo considerava il migliore, colui che con il suono della sua voce emozionava un cuore a volte stanco.
Tuttavia sono convinta che il Cavaradossi di Domingo sia il più emozionante che io abbia mai sentito...

Placido is one of the greatest opera legends alive, with a beautiful, powerful voice that can convey emotions amazingly. If he was so terrible, overrated or mediocre as his detractors state, he would have never been able to mantain such an impressive and sucessful career for so many decades, respected by his fellow artists. We should rejoice to still have him in active, he's 70 and still keep the quality of his voice and acting. Bravo Placido!

Placido es uno de los mas grandes de la opera, con una voz poderosa, bella, expresiva, capaz de transmitir emociones como muy pocos, si fuera tan terrible, o mediocre como sus detractores dicen no habria sido capaz de mantener una carrera tan impresionante, con tanto exito durante tantas decadas, ni seria tan respetado entre la profesion, verdaderos artistas. Dejemos a los mediocres con su envidia y gozemonos de que a sus 70 años aun este en activo conservando una magnifica voz.

Fuer mich ist Placido Domingo, der beste Tenor unserer Zeit. Ich denke mir, die Waerme in seiner Stimme, hat sicherlich etwas mit seiner ganzen Person zu tun.

A volte mi piacerebbe tantissimo esser nata in quell'epoca, nell' era della Lirica pura , naturale ,di quella dignità dorata , maestosa, quel drammatismo vivo , ricolmo di ardore , verismo,che oggi , forse, è andato un pò perduto . Domingo , come Pavarotti , come la Callas, come tanti altri rappresentanti della musica Lirica di quel periodo , con la loro voce non interpretavano soltanto dei personaggi nella loro esperienza di vita quotidiana, nel loro contesto storico : davano loro la Vita!

True test of "E lucevan": Never mind who is singing it, or where, or when. Just close your eyes and listen. If you shed a tear or two end of the performance, it is great rendition. If you don't, it ain't.

Very nice, but I prefer Corelli on stage, Caruso (1904), and Bjorling (1959) to this version. I've studied all performances of this aria and the most hair-raising one I've ever heard was Caruso's 1904 recording. Nobody bared his soul better than Caruso on this aria.

E stonato é come,e poi in questa aria Puccini voleva pianissimi,mezzavoci...dove é la voce puccinana nella "interpretazione" di Domingo?
Inesistente.E stonato é come,suono brutto,voce brutta.

@ABK2687 e grazie á chi?Possiamo ringraziare Domingo,Pavarotti e Carreras e i loro agenzie per il fatto che negli ultimi 40 anni hanno distrutto il mercato.Negli anni 50 piu di 30 tenori cantavano nel mondo intero. Fra questi tenori c'erano Masini,Del Monaco,Vinay,Nikolov,Corelli...Oggigiorno non é rimasto nessuno,l'ultimo grande tenore drammatico era Giuseppe Giacomini dopo lui la comedia é finita.
Senza vergognarsi hanno distrutto il belcanto ITALIANO!

@ABK2687 cara,voi giovani vivete in un mondo falso,la lirica degli anni 50-60 non esiste piu.Qua su YT lei ha una immensa fortuna di ascoltare i grandi tenori ITALIANI del passato glorioso ITALIANO e liberamente di fare la sua scelta.C'é un piccolo problema,per la lirica ci vuole una buona preparazione...purtroppo una registrazione e una dolce illusione.La registrazione non mostra la vera bellezza di una voce,per "entrare" nella voce di un interpreta ci vuole tempo,amore,anni di ascolto.Ciao.
