Hi Heather, To me it seems that there is a disconnect with Defence and the security environment. Over the last decade defence has been politicsed by a political parties ideology based on the 1960s and 70s that is out context to the complex environment our people serve abroad in today. I am predicting, despite the 'open' forum on defence, the writing is already on the wall in relation to defence policy. Privatising certain aspects is not the answer. Nor is cutting corners on projects

It is:

* 5" 54 calibre fully automatic lightweight gun

* Eight cell Vertical Launch System which houses NATO Seasparrow Mk 41 air def missile

* PHALANX Close In Weapon System

* 2 MK 32 Mod 5 Surface Vessel Torpedo Tubes

* Numerous small arms ranging frm 50 cal machine guns to 9 mm pistols

Other: TE KAHA carries 1 KAMAN SH-2G Super Seasprite helicopter that can be armed with torpedoes, depth charges & Maverick missiles

I Agree, the defence budget needs to rise, and sharply. How can the NZDF operate safely and deliver a 21st century capability, without funding or modern equipment, also defence infrastructure needs a complete simplification.
