To answer your question, Gojira73rules, they are two reasons why the Japanese celebrates Christmas. One for the Japanese Christians to celebrate the birth of the Lord and two as a celebration of love and unity among family and friends.

Though they are not so many Christians in Japan, this holiday is famously celebrated there. And Japanese people who practices Shintoism are trying to tolerate Japanese with different faiths so that they could redeem themselves from persecuting them in the past.
