  • What he said here at 5:30 is so true because I didn't even know who this guy was until about 20 mins ago when I came across this video by accident you don't see people like him in the media the man speaks the truth this coming from a young black man.

  • If only we have 10 ben carsons in a country, the world would become heaven, and Jesus Christ would come back to be King now, and not sometime in the future!

  • what he's saying makes sense but he's under the impression that the powers that be and the structure cares enough to do so. Do teachers really want to teach or are they there because they got laid off from some other job and they just want a paycheck. Most issues are economical first and foremost. It makes sense to care even if you are in a situation that isn't favorable but is it likely to happen?

  • When I correct a child the first thing out of a kid's mouth is: "you ain't my daddy!"

  • I love Carson and his books !

God took care of him ! How nobile !

  • very true; society is breaking up and i am thinking the government is encouraging it as well. it shows a lot on the black children.

the proof is 'black-on-black-murder'; it is so scaring for the African american.

it looks as if they are targeted purposely.

can i take the opportunity to thank my Hero Dr. Ben Carson's.

  • All religion is sun worship, look up sun worship here on youtube. Someone as brilliant as Dr. Ben Carson also needs this wake up call.

  • Excellent! Dr. Ben Carson is truly a gift from God.

  • I concur! Absolutely!

  • Spare the rod, and you spoil the child. There is absolutely nothing wrong with giving "your child" some serious ass whooping when he/she goes wrong. You chastise those you love.

  • Admiraçao..essa é a palavra que sinto por Dr.Carson....queria um dia ve-lo no Brasil...bjs

  • He is the Black Stephen Hawking

  • Hawking is the white Ben Carson.

  • true...

  • What an inspiration to us all. As a Hispanic American I am in awe is this great man. He is absolutely right when it comes to idolize and looking up to heroes of the arts and sports world. And not simulating and admiring the inventor, the creator and pioneer of medicine, biology, electricity, refrigeration etc.. There are no excuses for anyone today to view themselves as victims. He is a prime example of perverance in the highest form.

  • This guy is fucking awesome

  • excuse all my errors, my computer is behaving badly today. I will leave my comments for a future date.

    Peace

  • Iook also read his book. Thank the creator

that the boy he stabbed as a

  • nice

  • This is a great video about a great mentor of all human kind.A faith mentor as well, thanks for the video

  • He is one of the BEST in the World (Science: 30+ PHDs ?). AfricanAmerican should show such Genius in their Churches, Schools, Museums, Public places. He, many others are very important for young black people. I got to knowing about him through a Korean Site (31 Doctoral Degrees?). Remember he is from the High Science. Ofcourse AfricanAmerican are intelligent and have made lots and lots of contributions. If they don't claim those contributions, Races will cliam them (ex: see Ancient Egypt)

  • very very true bro

  • People are people, no matter what their colour, and great writers, thinkers, and inventors come in all colours.

Shame that Ben Carson feels the need to perpetuate a few myths about inventors (Garret Morgan didn't "invent the traffic light", he patented a TYPE of traffic light). He doesn't need to do this sort of thing, as it subtracts credibility from the rest of his message, and makes it appear like he has a chip on his shoulder.

  • He answered a question on how to help young black males. He gave suggestions on lessons someone could teach them.

We all know people are people. Carson knows that especially; it's evident in his books and speeches. In addition, he said, more than once, that color is irrelevant. We all can help people.

The fact that you highlighted 1 mistake he made says a lot about you, than it does about him. People will remember the content & spirit of his comments.

  • My point wasn't so much that his example was inaccurate, more that it wasn't necesary to use this sort of example, unless he was addressing people who actually thought that people from certain racial groups weren't capable of great achievements, and I don't think he was.

  • Okay.

  • u still way off, face the point, his points and examples were accurate

  • the "crisis" for black males is not limited to the inner city.........it's in the suburbs too..and small towns.....yes, given the economy right now........many people of all persuasions are in "crisis"

  • This man speaks about African AMerican but also speaks to all of us who should follow his wisdom closely and his mother was a gift to us all. What a great woman to be such a great role model.

  • We need to go for the changes we can make without money or legislation. It's all in Bill Cosby's book.

Parents need to teach their teenage children about sex and put their daughters on IUD.

A teenage girl that becomes pregnant can instantly ruin her life. You can't be a cheerleader with a big belly, can you?

Schools need to restrict basketball/football practice to twice a week. After all, how can you study and have a part-time job if you play ball that much?

  • Good for this man to point out Blacks who have succeeded intellectually and not ONLY sports. And for working with kids and the need to reach out to them in order to create a safer world for all. Not with guns, not with force, NOT with laws and legislation and not for money, it's with our hearts and minds together, do we succeed.

  • Thank you for posting this video.

  • bravo !!!!!! amen!!!!!

  • Gifted Hands an inspirational biography, we read with all our pathfinders. God bless this man!

  • Oh yeah, I read that book when I was a freshman in high school, and that influenced me a whole lot and helped me throughout my years in high school.

  • This man is unbelievable....God bless this man, he knows what is going on with the world; and more people, black, white, hispanic, or w/e need to listen to him.

  • Ben Carson for Surgeon General

  • Wow, what a wonderful idea. But I don't think his position on abortion would please Pres. Obama.

  • I think Dr. Carson is a better asset to society in the operating room then as a government bureaucrat in office building in D.C.

But I agree with your sentiment.

  • that is a lie ...there r more black men in college than prison

  • Don't know what the statistics are for today, but when I searched for info, it said about 100,000 more black men in prison than college in 2000 and the statistics had been trending higher with time.

I think much more should be taught in our schools about accomplishments and inventiveness of black people. I read recently that a black man came up with the whole system of typing blood that is used to this day, although he couldn't donate. He must have been a wonderful and brilliant man.

  • The problem with the school system particularly in black communities is that it's curriculum revolves around a monolithic approach to learning where you have distinct demographic differences. It's insane and simply does not work. I've worked in schools where emphasis needs to be place on health, hygience and building families and communities while the school has to follow the political agenda set down from the district>city>state>Federal gov't. It's fallacious. There needs to be decentralization

  • Marc Steiner, the moderator in this discussion, has an awesome voice.

  • I read Gifted Hands. It took a crew of over 20 doctors to successfully separate joined twins and have both of them live. Now how much does it cost when there's 15,000 obese people going to the emergency room?

Somehow, i think a lot of health problems ruining young people are preventable.

  • I just read Dr. Ben Carson's book Gifted Hands. He is amazing and I do wish that all young people can read his books and listen to him. He is an inspiration!!

  • it was an absolutely amazing book

  • That was an amazing segment to listen to! I'm wanting to read his book now! What a great speaker! :)

  • All young black youths need to see are positive images! Really that's all! People often become what they see. We just have to be intelligent. We know that if blacks ever get a hold of how intelligent and talented they are it's a wrap meaning - we'll have what we need need to sucedd efficiently and will be prosperous while going on to produce in ways we never imagined!

  • I was no fan of Pres. Obama, but he's ours now, so we have to pray for him and support him in every way we can. One great thing that will come of his election to office, young black people will see a great family man as President. He obviously loves his wife, for real, not show, and his children.

  • You can add to that his moral integrity, fantastic work-ethic, drive to succeed, intelligence, blessings of persuasive communication. Shall I go on mam?

  • awesome...

  • Ben Carson ROCKS, and tells it like it is.

    I agree...BEN CARSON FOR PRESIDENT!!!

  • imagine this guy president , imagine how USA would look like with him , imagine an international president having balls not to agree with him.

  • Dr. Carson is the MAN!!!!!!

  • Why couldn't Dr. Carson run for President?!! This guy is AWESOME!! What he's saying is PURE COMMON SENSE. He is so freaking refreshing to listen too. He has accomplished alot in his career, and he doesn' have a chip on his shoulder. Carson is a role model for all kids and even adults regardless of race.

  • you have to realise that only those how accomplish less in their career chose to do something else as involving in politics and stuff...and the president stuff is more complex than you or we think: Kennedy, Martin Luther King etc

  • dr. carson has inspired me and my dbrother to become doctorsa and to pick ourselves out of poverty and the wrong mindsset to acheive it. Dr. carson is an amazing and soft spoken man, yety his word is really true.

  • I happened to be flipping through channels when I saw this episode airing on C-SPAN. It was the first time that I have ever stopped to watch a C-SPAN segment. His life-story was so motivational, his demeanor so humble, and yet accomplishments so great that I could not help but be fascinated by his life. That same day I purchased his book, Gifted Hands. He is a remarkable, talented, and humble individual that has a story to tell is a great role model to anyone no matter their color

  • Ben Carson is a GREAT MAN.

to hell with rappers and athletes... men like Dr. Carson are who young black men need to look up to.

  • @marcdaddy33 Ben Carson is a man that ALL people need to emulate & his values embraced. It's Not about black or white, period!

  • @San47di1

Come on man... does that need to be spelled out and said EVERY SINGLE TIME? it is OBVIOUS that ALL people can benefit from his example, a) but what is the topic for the clip on this video? b) and who tends to be the troubled youth (in baltimore or in any city in America)? c) who was Bill Cosby talking about when he gave his lectures about BAD parenting?

It is a SELF-EVIDENT TRUTH that Mr. Carson is a great role model for all, but it is ESPEICALLY so for black kids.

  • Part 2

If you have ANY IDEA about the DIRE situation with the black community, amongst black youth and ESPECIALLY among black men, you are thus aware that they tend to use as role models some of the WORST individuals in society (thugs, drug dealers, pimps) and even if their role models aren't bad people, they tend to be entertainers (sports players, singers, rappers, actors). Few black men say they wan to be like Ben Carson- to be a doctor, etc.

  • Part 3

It's a GREAT day in the black community when a black youth decides that they simply want to be a great father... or mother... or moral person.

I really don't feel the need to use inclusive language on every occasion because it is obvious that men like Ben Carson are great role models for all races... to feel the need to do is political correctness run amok... sort of like strip searching three year old American girls so as not to offend Muslims.

  • @marcdaddy33 . Umm its not a "GREAT" day in the black community when a youth decides to behave well. Its far more common for our youth to behave well than to not. Dont talk with your mouth full.

  • @marcdaddy33 . AMEN!!

  • I absolutely commend Dr. Carson for aspiring me as a young black professional from Detroit. I also attended Detroit public schools and graduated from a prestigious University. It is true that the history lesson that he provided can illuminate the lives of many minorities in need of understanding their role in American Society! I also agree that his humility and life long dedications to empower urban youth accompanied by his life long achievements constitute his right to a nobel prize.

  • he is a very soft spoken intelligent man, where you know every word he speaks is well thought out and deep

  • can somebody tell me why this noble man havent received his noble price? he is my inspiration,im bursting myself to earn my medical degree also, but i hope to make history specializing under internal medicine branching into infectious diseases...i read all his books too,my favourite is think big and god given hands...this man is a direct decent from heaven!

  • i encourage u to take it the top, being a physician was my ambition but i have to retake classes in order to pursue that goal, we'll see if it was planned for me.

  • Dr. Ben Carson is the exact person, along with the other amazing people he lists in this video, that should be honored and pointed out to the youth of today. Not only vulgar rap "artists", sports stars, and other "celebrities". It is terrible how the wrong types of people get so much attention, and the people that should get attention get none, and are forgotten. Thank God for Dr. Carson! I also love how he stresses that it is the combinations of nationalities that make this country great.

  • Ben Carson should be the first Black President of the United States, not Barack Obama.

    Mr.Obama just wants POWER.

How can we be sure he will really be able to handle a crisis?

    Vote for Hillary Clinton 2008.

  • Are you kidding me - Vote Hilary??? 1) Barack is bi-racial, and Americans should pay closer attention to that 2) Hilary is more Power hungry than Obama, and is a part of the Clinton dynasty. Moreover, she is a calculating bitch, willing to lie for you vote...

  • I am sorry If I offended you, I understand what you are trying to say, and I also think if you pay closer attention to Senator Clinton you will understand why she is a good person. She is not evil.

  • Just for your information, my name is Jones Tucker, I am a Black Man from Mississippi.

  • Dr. Carson is a national treasure. He has written some books I recommend everyone read. God bless Ben Carson!

  • you can find the whole vid by searching it (it's on the CSPAN website)

  • It's man like that who inspires me to finish school and earn my degree

  • Carson all the way! Mt. Zion!!!!! native

  • all those inventors! what black person heard this in childhood? what a difference it would have made. we've been duped.

  • This gentleman is my role model.Ben Carson for president!lol

  • This is excellent!! Thank you for posting this...Does anyone have the whole lecture? I would love to post it on my blog!! Such an awesome speaker.

    Krista

  • Sorry, I don't. I missed at least half of it.
