dude i see what ur gting at on the key board but if u look closely to the lg phone the keyboard is not in the same order as the average keyboard on computers thus making it maybee slower to use if you know the computer keyboard of by heart and u can type without looking

its good phone, i was lovin symbian on n95 8GB, than i had android, WM 6.5 and now i got n97 for testin, which makes me unhappy with user interface and the keyboard is absolutly non sence, why they made it like that. Camera is great, video too, better quality than n85 8GB, but same res.

I don't think you should get either of them. The Symbian OS is horrible and it is whats keeping phones like this one down. Noah is right, comparing to all the other choices out now Nokia is behind. I had the 5800 for about a year and regretted it. After buying an android device I cant see why anyone would choose this instead.
That same thing happend to my battery cover, the little plastic thing broke off. The phone lags out and turns its self on and off. It wont let me update, it just fails all the time. Ovi store is crap. No range of widgets. Just rubbish and istill have 15months on this contract. I WANT THE HTC HERO! Do not buy this phone, you will be sorely dissapointed. Don't say i didn't warn you.

One thing he forgot to mention is that the N97 is N-gage compatible. So with all the N-gage games. And the fact that you can play videos to your TV in full 640X360 resolution!
Also for the speaker phone as soon as you flip it open it goes to speaker and it switches back when you slide it back in.
I found the camera to be great. Especially motion, I was on a moving bus and was getting no motion blur!

1. Blackberry pearl.. The form factor makes it the easiest to use in the bunch.

3. Blackberry Storm. it Has a nicest touch screen keyboard I ever used but the last time I used one it seemed sluggish however that issue could have been resolved. If so it would make an excellent choice too and offers a bigger screen.
Yes but it sucks. You can't use the keyboard and the number pad at the same time. One thing to know is its imposable to use this phone while you drive.. Forget it. A palm Treo may not have 3g (depending where you live), as big a screen, WI-FI or as good a camera but at the end of the day it has a better OS, better office suit & phone book application that you can use with one hand while you drive. This phone turned me off from all wide screen touch screen phones with or without keyboards.

That's definatly a plus that it can take a beating. But i really don't like it (especially when you know what you payed for it and what you get for that money).
Had an N73 and N82 and they were both decent phones. The symbian submenus sucked; hated searching thru folders after folders. For some reason nokia will organized synced photos by weeks which means even more folders to go thru. I agree that the N series are very cheap (hurts when dumping 500-700 bucks). Battery life is awesome though. Went to iphone 3GS and aside from heating issues, I think it's definitely a better phone for me.
I am a i Phone fan. My girlfriend recently bought this phone. So we switched for a bit as he said spec wise its pretty awesome. Loved watching movies on it,battery life was amazing. However,it entire os felt retro and a lil dated. It felt like I was using my old 6630+widgets. In 2009 doesnt cut it really but its not bad. For me its great downfall is the resistive touch screen was awful. I just felt the entire experience was a lil clunky and not very fluid. For movies/music give it a go..

I love the sleek 3 line keyboard & am used to using the shift keys to get what I want. The phone is a nice fit in the hand and the video streaming, FM transmitter & alot more besides...
I respect what you say though - at the end of the day, there's always bound to be some subjectivity.

Hi mumsbread - I respect phonedog's criticisms as he reviews a wide range of phones & so the negative things he says are food for thought. The big BUT, though, is that ANY phone will have +/-'s according to your own taste.
I've had my Nokia N97 for nearly 6 weeks now, & I'm a very satisfied user. There are occassionally some slowdown issues when I have lots of apps running simultaneously, but on the whole, the phone has a fantastic feature set. See my channel for my reviews.
Reasons:Not a fan of resistive touch screens, awful processor ruins all the features that it had over the other touch phones, bad graphics, hate Symbian, Not spending 700$, hardware does look bad, and I dont think I wanna get used to that keyboard.

I've watched a lot of your 'reviews' and they all seem to be criticised based, which really puts me off watching your videos because you don't mention how good something is, or just that it's good... I just want a nice looking touch phone that isn't on Windows Mobile cause that thing is rubbish. The N97 looks great but I am scared of getting it when I read reviews like this. Putting the spacebar on the right is pretty much the only sensible choice. Either you put it on the right, or you put it between the v and b keys and put the whole thing out of alignment making it even more awkward.

Whether that is bad is a matter of personal opinion. Any qwerty board on a phone sucks when compared to that of a computer, it's a matter of getting used it and I have no doubt that while less intuitive it will not hamper actual speed.
This is a big disappointment. It's basically a toy aimed at 'hip' people. I'm sticking with my E71 for now. When they release an E71 with a full touch screen and hard qwerty, then I might consider wetting my pants with excitement. Don't get me started on the E75.. What the hell, nokia?
I agree with ahpadt. He himself forewarned everyone in part one. I (4-5 yrs ago) was a total Nokia fan. When the U.S. carriers were shite, when it came to offerings. They have caught up, however. I was 1st (in my netwok) with 8890, 6260 etc.. N97 isn't worth the $700, like those models in their hayday.

The Keyboard Is NICE Once You Get Use To It, The Camera Owns, The Sound Quality Outside Owns, Multitasking Owns, The Design Owns And It Can Take A Pretty Good Beating Etc.

Had an N73 and N82 and they were both decent phones. The symbian submenus sucked; hated searching thru folders after folders. For some reason nokia will organized synced photos by weeks which means even more folders to go thru. I agree that the N series are very cheap (hurts when dumping 500-700 bucks). Battery life is awesome though. Went to iphone 3GS and aside from heating issues, I think it's definitely a better phone for me.

I am a i Phone fan. My girlfriend recently bought this phone. So we switched for a bit as he said spec wise its pretty awesome. Loved watching movies on it,battery life was amazing. However,it entire os felt retro and a lil dated. It felt like I was using my old 6630+widgets. In 2009 doesnt cut it really but its not bad. For me its great downfall is the resistive touch screen was awful. I just felt the entire experience was a lil clunky and not very fluid. For movies/music give it a go..

Hi Phonedig - thanks for the comprehensive review. I've been using the N97 for about 6 weeks now & am a very happy user...mostly because I really wanted a phone with a keyboard that has everything else build in.
I love the sleek 3 line keyboard & am used to using the shift keys to get what I want. The phone is a nice fit in the hand and the video streaming, FM transmitter & alot more besides...
I respect what you say though - at the end of the day, there's always bound to be some subjectivity.

Hi mumsbread - I respect phonedog's criticisms as he reviews a wide range of phones & so the negative things he says are food for thought. The big BUT, though, is that ANY phone will have +/-'s according to your own taste.
I've had my Nokia N97 for nearly 6 weeks now, & I'm a very satisfied user. There are occassionally some slowdown issues when I have lots of apps running simultaneously, but on the whole, the phone has a fantastic feature set. See my channel for my reviews.

I'm an N73 owner and a nokia enthusiastic but you are totaly right. Graphics sucks!! I can't understand how did this shitty OS last all this time. I can only laugh of the flash promo video of the N97; it looks soooo fast and it is not. Definetily!!

Fair enough. I've got one. its not perfect. Smiled when he slated the browser.. "Its not up to Opera".... well download Opera for it then - I did :) As he hints, there is a bucketload of apps available for this phone. FYI as someone with a disability - the keyboard is fiddly but much more useable than you'd think. Remember peeps that its primary purpose is A PHONE! jeez, if someone said 10 years ago that a phone I put in my shirt pocket could do all this...

Could you please for once in your career do a fair review of a phone. All you did in this entire review was bash the phone & then went on to say that it was simple & functional. Come do a real review & stop phone bashing. It was man made, you can't expect it to be perfect in every little detail. What you do is just annoying.

I just want a nice looking touch phone that isn't on Windows Mobile cause that thing is rubbish. The N97 looks great but I am scared of getting it when I read reviews like this. Whatever I get I need a hardware keyboard, the touchscreen ones are great but theyre hard to use when youre walking around outside :S

comparing all three phones the looks of the n97 is the best one... yet i must agree the htc folding screen its pretty cool but looks unstable if someone sits on it accidently while its on the sofa it seems as thos it could snap easily

Putting the spacebar on the right is pretty much the only sensible choice. Either you put it on the right, or you put it between the v and b keys and put the whole thing out of alignment making it even more awkward.
Consequence of the three row/slider thing.
Whether that is bad is a matter of personal opinion. Any qwerty board on a phone sucks when compared to that of a computer, it's a matter of getting used it and I have no doubt that while less intuitive it will not hamper actual speed.

This is a big disappointment. It's basically a toy aimed at 'hip' people. I'm sticking with my E71 for now. When they release an E71 with a full touch screen and hard qwerty, then I might consider wetting my pants with excitement. Don't get me started on the E75.. What the hell, nokia?

I agree with ahpadt. He himself forewarned everyone in part one. I (4-5 yrs ago) was a total Nokia fan. When the U.S. carriers were shite, when it came to offerings. They have caught up, however. I was 1st (in my netwok) with 8890, 6260 etc.. N97 isn't worth the $700, like those models in their hayday.

Did noah forget that it stays online all the time? Updating constantly, now thats innovative! Most phones need to be awaken for it to be updated with new info, but not the n97. With battery power that can last all day with that much functionality is amazing. Also, no other phone does multitasking better than Symbian.
