oh hey i was in this, 2nd to last bird, oh boy was this jump fubar from day one, thanks to the fly boys who dropped us off center about 90-95% of the jumpers landed in the trees, and whoever said there were no serious injuries is a fool, i know someone who broke their back on this jump. Everyone knockin on our JM's and how fucked our intervals were, we jump when told and its a bitch to hold and interval when turbulence was as bad as it was.
My bro was working the flight line when it happened. 300 out of the 400 dropped were in the trees. The wind calculations were 3 to 4 hours old...used the same from the "J" model drop earlier in the day. FAIL.
Why dont they give you guys square canopies and teach you how to steer to the landing area? It's not that difficult. I wouldve been pissed if they dropped me with such a bad exit point.
i was supposed to jump on this one but the plane broke down en route... had to turn around and fly all the way back to bragg on three propellers. i guess we can only jump out of "perfectly good aircrafts" instead of broken ones... lol
I just missed having to go on this jump. A few guys got hurt in my unit but nobody too bad. That DZ is very narrow something like this is bound to happen. Everyone wants to blame the airforce but we have jumped in worse winds. I'm just glad this didn't happen in 2008 when I did this air show.
Some of these guys came out holding hands. way too close together. Even after riding each other's canopies, they could not get directions from one another?
@iangates I'm confused, how do you shoot Video on an older Nikon DSLR with Autofocus? The D3100 and D7000 are the only Nikon DSLR's that shoot Video with Autofocus.
@beatsiz This video was shot with a Canon T2i with a Tamron 18-270mm. I had it in live auto focus. It's not the greatest lens, but it has a wide range. The other camera you hear is the Nikon.
@iangates I'm confused. How do you focus while shooting video on a T2i? Live Auto Focus doesn't work while filming... Maybe you lost focus just as the other guy hit focus on his camera? I don't know.
@iangates I'm quite shocked right now... I've had my 7D for 8 months and I shoot Video with it on a Daily basis but I never knew you could focus while shooting... I have to go try that out.
Even so, I think focusing manually is faster, even compared to the D3100 or D7000 with Full Time Autofocus.

One of the girls at my school ( I live in Conway, AR), who didn't go to the show saw 10 C-130s flying over her house and thought the US was being invaded.... hahaha
Too bad you don't know that there were less injuries with jumpers falling into the trees on Sunday than on Saturday when many landed on the runway. Besides, the trees are on the DZ.
I did not see the Saturday drop. I heard a lot of jumpers landed on the runway and got F'd up. I wish them the best. You aren't going to catch me jumping out of a perfectly good airplane:)
Haha, well, good for you I suppose. However, if you've ever flown in a C-130 for any extended length of time, you know it's not a perfectly good airplane. In fact, it's rather loud, uncomfortable, and at low altitudes, nausating. :-P
I was the 5th jumper, left side, on the very first bird. It really wasn't a bad way to spend a day working, even if it was on the weekend though.
I was out there helping pull them out of the trees. Amazingly no one was seriously injured and no bones were broken. We were talking to the jumpers and the ground was so hard and dry they would have preferred to land in the trees.
i was on the 5th chalk and landed in a tree ankle is messed up now but it was awesome

@hongkongluna Nevermind. Steerable squares would mean collisions and entanglements with that many guys in the air. Blue Skies :)

@bigmasaquata1 It was the Air Force that planned the jump and Air Force Jumpmaster that said when to jump.
It's not the soldiers faults.

If you half hold the shutter button it will find focus while shooting video.
