Dear God... Sometimes I think I'd rather be blind in order not to have to read certain things... Nadal would bite them into pieces??? Dude, if Nadal played in the 80's or 90's, using those old racquets, he would be nobody.
@X1NR4M Do you really have to see something to know that it would happen? It's simple, you need modern equipment to generate so much spin and power, plus modern supplements and training to be as strong and fast as he is. Without those he would be reduced to an avarage player since his technique is shit if compared to those guys. It's a fact, back then you had to have fine technique to hit the ball hard, nowadays it's 50/50, player and equipment. Learn that.
@vinagre76 Well if he was trained with the old raquets then u dont know, Yes, if u give him an old raquet and he never used it, then offcourse he will lose.
@X1NR4M He would have to develop other strenghts cos those racquets wouldn't allow him to hit those high topspin strokes - and Nadal has never been known as a natural talent, it's all about power, speed and a strong head. I'm sorry but there's no way Nadal would be successful in other era. As I said, at that time you had to hit nice and clean to get power, see those guys playing, their technique is way ahead.
@vinagre76 Well it depends if he grew up with the old raquet, then it might be a different story. If u would give him a raquet they used in the 80s or 90s, then yes he will be torn to pieces cause he has no idea how to play with them :)
@X1NR4M Those racquets simply don't allow you to generate so much spin, it's a fact. His 'hook' forehand for example, that would be harmless on fast surfaces. I'm sure he would be a great clay player still though. You have to be realistic, look at Boris and Pete, their technique is flawless, Rafa is way behind them when it comes to that. He's phisically and mentally stronger, that's for sure, but it's also due to his modern diet and training, which Boris and Pete didn't have access to back then.
@vinagre76 Hey dont get me wrong, i,m totally agreeing with u. What i ment to say was, that if Nadal would have grown up with the older raquet that he would have put a lot more focus to his technique then on his strength. But yes i totally agree ;)
@X1NR4M Yeah, we are probably saying the same thing using different words... lol I like Rafa though, he seems to be a good fella and I really admire his drive to achieve.
Nadal would bite them into pieces, swallow them, digest them and shit them into the corner of the court.
Sorry. I was a big Beckerfan and Sampras is with Federer the most talented player I have ever watched, but Nadal would beat them on all surfaces except fast grass and fast carpet, like here.
Sampras is superb on grass, fast carpet & fast hardcourt. On fast grass, he would certainly beat Nadal. The new grass enables Nadal to play his topspin. Nadal can serve as fast as Fed & Pete, though usually serves with spin/slice. He is more athletic.
Sampras lost several matches against Safin, Kuerten and Hewitt. So, I guess, that Nadal could beat Sampras, too, except for the very fast surfaces and Pete in topshape.
Fed stopped Pete´s wimby-reign. In the end it is speculation.
Fed ended Pete's W reign, but he was past his prime. The court situation and racquet tech was what I meant when I talked about which player gets to stay in his time. Even so, Edberg showed on the old boys tour how effective S&V can still be. He defeated Safin in a final last November.
In terms of serve, Pete is a candidate for best ever. That edge he has over Nadal.
I simply do not have those two in the same league. And I am no Sampras fan btw..
funny thing that Sampras-Nadal hypothetical matches, I'd say Nadal wouldn't touch Sampras in the 90's and Sampras wouldn't tough Nadal nowadays. Seems like both were born in the perfect time.
@hencar2 the ground strokes are flatter and more penetrating in the court. both players are more high risk in style as opposed to Nadal and Federer...their games are awesome, but more conservative in many ways.
Becker VS Sampras. Wish i can turn back time.

Well I totally disagree. Sampras particularly is a class above Nadal. I would give it to Nadal on clay, thats about it.
Of course it depends a bit if we are zapping these players into the future (which would work in Nadal's favour) or zapping Nadal back in time.
