I have been debt free with a paid off condo and car for years. THE PROBLEM IS: that the type of people who have a tendency to go deep into debt are not going to do what you tell them to. They feel entitled to spend or have a compulsive spending problem, an addiction. Of course I realize that some people are in debt because of medical bills etc. I am not talking about responsible people that have hit hard times through no fault of their own.
