I heard of this group that was going to try this just to see what happened, but I'm not sure if they ever went through with it. Each of them, one white, one black, one asian, and one hispanic, were going to drive around with a break light off to see how they were treated when they were stopped. I hope that when they do this, if they haven't already, they document it on video.

I also believe that those who have been stopped when the police were not on camera were charged with bogus charges. I have no doubt that a lot of the people in Arpaio's jail have been convicted of crimes they never committed. There's a video out there where it seems the cop wants to rig the car with drugs. He keeps reaching into his pocket, but they are upset the whole thing is being recorded.

So the bottom line is that both of these people were pulled over for cause, albeit one which we find petty, and both were released without citation. To listen to some people, you would think that the police harass and then arrest anyone who looks Mexican.

I don't know the extent of your dealings with the MCSO, but as a defense attorney, I am constantly visiting clients that are being held in the jails. I can honestly say that at least half of the detention officers I see are hispanic. MCSO is widely known for their racial profiling and beatings in their jail. Also upon my time of living there I have noticed that hispanic border patrol agents are often more despicable than the whites. I was pulled over by a deputy in north scottsdale for a my license plate light being out. He gave me the whole drug sweep and I was cooperative. He obviously found nothing, and I left. well...cracked windshields, no lights on the plate, and broken tail lights are legitimate reason for being pulled over. past that if an officer has any reason to suspect something may be out of order it is more than their right as an officer of the law to search the vehicle, the man was handcuffed on the curb for the safety of the officer himself.

I also believe that those who have been stopped when the police were not on camera were charged with bogus charges. I have no doubt that a lot of the people in Arpaio's jail have been convicted of crimes they never committed. There's a video out there where it seems the cop wants to rig the car with drugs. He keeps reaching into his pocket, but they are upset the whole thing is being recorded.

I can honestly say that at least half of the detention officers I see are hispanic. They also don't seem to "fear losing their jobs and and fear retaliation from their coworkers" as I see them all pretty much getting along like I would at any other place of work. But what do I know, I don't base my conclusions solely on Youtube...

Well said Inspector. I actually lived in Maricopa Co for 10 yrs. From my point of view I notice that the hispanic deputies tend to be more vocal when it comes to altercations. MCSO is widely known for their racial profiling and beatings in their jail. Also upon my time of living there I have noticed that hispanic border patrol agents are often more despicable than the whites. But this is merely opinion sir as I respect your expertise in your profession. Thank god I do not reside in AZ anymore.

This IS a real problem, and it's one of the reasons the MCSO had it's agreement with ICEresponsibilities/power limited to only those hispanics in jail. An order the sheriff has publicly ignored.

I am an immigrant and have been pulled over while transfering my gun from place to place. Officers checked the serial number, checked my background and I was on my way!! They didn't bring a dog to my car, I guess it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out who's a probable criminal and who's not. 1. The suspect was charged with three fellonies contrary to the video.
2. he clearly is heard saying that it is not his intention to take him to jail contrary to the subtitle claiming that it was his intention.
3. this is being billed as excessive because he was stopped for a plate light. that is only what led to the traffic stop.
4. finally the second stop is a diff deputy driving a crown vic not a Charger as the first deputy was.

1. look up the definition of "long forming felony charges to the maricopa county attorney" arrests don't have to include a trip to jail.
2. I can't speak for the Deputy in the video but I am a Catholic (so yes a christian) and my political affiliation is not limited to party lines.
3. You must be one hell of a judge of character if you are able to call somebody a racist after watching a 3:44 video clip. I tend to try to get to know people personally first.

I don't recall the driver stating that he had been asked about his legal status, and if you listen closely the Deputy told his wife "my intention is NOT to take him to jail"

MCSO gets no respect, as soon as they deputies pull over a mexican/black person they are automaticaly a racist, thats my step dad in the first half, and what the video doesnt show is that e guy was being a smart ass, so the Officer/my step dad has every right to sit him where ever he wants, and MCSO's are not held down by some strict pullover guide lines meaning that they can pull you over for no lisence plate light or a wobbly tire.

Good point, I am very well aware of people over staying their visas and they ARE just as illegal as the border hoppers.
