  • Damn it. I wish I knew Italian. I understand some Italian, knowing Castellano (Spanish) another Latin based language, but I am unfamiliar with his dialect (Calabrian)

  • I love this! I'm Sicilian so my dilect is very similar to Calabrese. This is hilarious!!

  • @anthony1290 Me too. My whole family is 100% sicilian and Calabrian is very similar. What part of Sicily are you from?

  • hahahah i know aye he sounds like my nonno. he's from Calabria, which is where im from...

  • hahahaha. sounds exactly like my dad. does anyone know what town/village joe avatis parents come from? his dialect is from the province of reggio which is where im from

  • @signorsambolo

I'm pretty sure one of his parents is from Melicucca in reggio.

  • would someone please translate this. thanks!

  • @LeoRafDonnyMikey So basically he's saying that his Nonno calls him up all excited and asks:

"Did you see the news?" Joe say no he didn't, and asked what happened. Nonno says "They caught that one!" He asked who they caught and he tells him "The one with the long beard." Joe is confused and asks if he's talking about Osama Bin Laden. Nonno says, "No not him, the other one, Saddam Hussein. My goodness, when they found him he was down in a hole like a rabbit." (TBC - see next post)

  • @LeoRafDonnyMikey (Continued from last post) "He came out looking all confused, like he was lost and didn't know anything. I don't understand why, when they found him, they didn't throw a bunch of explosives on the ground on top of him!" Nonno then tells Joe that he thinks Saddam must be Italian. Joe asked why and Nonno replies, "Because when they found him, he had all his cash hidden under the mattress."

So that wasn't a perfect translation, but you get the gist.

  • Bazyan1, he sais he's italian because he stashed cash under the mattress. Italian = "materasso", but he sais "matarazzu" as Calabrian-Sicilian. I'm quite sure he's calabrian.

It's not enough to be italian, you should be sicilian or calabrian because it's dialect (Extreme meridional Italian).
