the drive shaft you see is turning the vdrive which inturn turns the prop under the boat. most true drag boats are vdrive, there are a few that run jet drives though.

im assuming the boat in the video is a flat bottom which is one hell of a ride.

Hey ding dong, know it all commentors; this machine is running PERFECTLY. Before running off at the lip here, appreciate what you see and obviously don't know. Try and understand the rough idle is caused by a high lift cam. The high lifter allows too much fuel into combustion at idle but when the throttle opens - the mix is set perfectly. This machine is a piece of artwork and sounds beautiful! God help us when dipshiits like these work on the cars of those who really know hi-performance.

You are right but, Actually smarty-pants the lope is caused by the intake centerline and duration, and overlap; which at an idle the intake valve opens so far BEFORE TDC while the exhaust valve is still open and the piston is still on the exhaust stroke, it causes an intake backpressure and slightly starves the cylinders and causes the lope. The funny thing is the engine idles basicly the same with or without the "Blower" except the surging. Also Methanol will idle choppier than gas.

This is not cam lope. it's surge. or what I call "The Detroit roll". It's just basic engine physics, Huge power engine at a low RPM. Sounds great like a caged Devil!!! I was told by some guys with the same sounding idle, that its caused by the fuel dripping from the carbs at idle. When throttle is applied more fuel no surge. thats what I was told, am sure there are other variables. I can only wish to have a motor like that in something. Nice build.
