I hear that there are states that require carried weapons to be concealed with a permit, but this obviously isn't one of them. I don't understand why cops confuse this so much. In no other situation does a license restrict otherwise granted rights. By that logic anyone with a drivers license couldn't walk or ride a bike.
Most open carry laws also apply to those with concealed carry. If the city ordinance says you can carry open just because you have a concealed carry doesn't mean you HAVE to carry concealed. It doesn't violate the license.

I know the laws regarding Open Carry for a lot of states in case I travel to them and want to Open Carry. All you are obligated to do when Open Carrying is inform the officer you are doing so, the firearm must be visible, and in your reach. If you have it under clothing or in the trunk of the vehicle, then you must obtain a CCW.

Yes but no one is freaked out more by OC than cops - especially when they don't know the laws they are supposed to be enforcing. If you carry the state summary around, you may just diffuse an otherwise hostile situation.

It is the fact that they are improperly trained, which usually, and this has been documented, they are told to stop and harass people who open carry to try to discourage them from exercising their rights. It has been proven they are told to do so in a lot of communities in open carry states. Nashua NH for example got caught for it. They illegally arrested and detained one man for open carry and he proved they did so to harass him.
What you said is true,however, cops like to assert their "superior" knowledge of the law, as evidenced by the many times they sneer, "What are you, a lawyer?" anytime they are challenged on their understanding of the law. I think it would be a wise decision to carry a card around that ENUMERATES the laws for the particular state - that way when the cop gets snippy - you whip out the card and let IT do the talking for you. In MI., Open Carry is ILLEGAL when driving a car, even with a CPL, so with you driving your bike and OC, you may also be committing a crime!

It could be on the dash, between your legs or taped to the radio! There isn't much evidence of criminals "targeting" people with visible weapons. You will not find a statute regarding OCing in a vehicle because having the gun inside of the vehicle is Concealing the gun. As long as you are not brandishing the weapon, it is perfectly legal to have it on your hip or in a seat holster. I have a CPL in MI and I OC and Conceal carry. For me, it's more about convenience i.e. clothing, location and time of year.

Thus we can use deadly force on an attacker who is trying to use deadly force on us, without having to load the weapon. I live in SC where open carry is legal, so i think it'd be a little messed up if getting your CWP means you have to have your weapon concealed at all times b/c some guns are just too big to carry concealed.

You need a CCW permit to operate a motor vehicle with a loaded weapon. This includes a motorcycle. The fact it was openly carried is irrelevant.

I may be wrong and probably am but i thought that the open carry weapon had to be stored in a container while operating a motor vehicle. and in the case that a person has the CPL, they could simply conceal it. i know that the cop is wrong about his arguement. i'm just wondering about him driving a motorcycle with a pistol showing. i am a michigan open carrier with no motorcycle.

The license says he may carry concealed as well as carrying openly which is a 2nd ammendment right.The cops really need better training on these laws you should'nt have your time wasted so that a cop can sit there learning what you already know,thats wrong,they should be taught at the academy and refreshed weekly.They should also have to learn the constitution since they take an oath to defend & uphold it and a quick glance at the bill of rights would'nt hurt either.Thumbs up if you agree?

Yeah I don't generally like putting down police officers, but this officer did make a mistake. You can't be in violation of concealed carry laws by doing something that's outside the scope of law, i.e. open carry. Concealed laws don't apply in that instance.

It could be on the dash, between your legs or taped to the radio! There isn't much evidence of criminals "targeting" people with visible weapons. There is A LOT of evidence of criminals being deterred by showing them a handgun. This video is providing information and the law. The officers' opinion and your opinion do not matter until it becomes law!

You will not find a statute regarding OCing in a vehicle because having the gun inside of the vehicle is Concealing the gun. As long as you are not brandishing the weapon, it is perfectly legal to have it on your hip or in a seat holster. I have a CPL in MI and I OC and Conceal carry. For me, it's more about convenience i.e. clothing, location and time of year.

You are guaranteeing a visit from the Police and eventhough it isn't illegal, you could find yourself being a "test case" for a revision of the law. Thus we can use deadly force on an attacker who is trying to use deadly force on us, without having to load the weapon. The only reason we can is because there is no law against open carry of a firearm in the Michigan statutes.

They need to give the officers proper training, for LTCF and CCW. It seems this is often a probelm. From what I've read time and time again. CCW, gives you the option to carry conceled. In Texas that is our only option.

OK, quick question. If you have your CWP, that just means that you legally have the option to carry conceled if you feel the need and choose to. That doesn't mean you can't carry open just b/c you have your CWP does it?
I live in SC where open carry is legal, so i think it'd be a little messed up if getting your CWP means you have to have your weapon concealed at all times b/c some guns are just too big to carry concealed.

After you confirmed to have one he states: You are violating the driver license you have to drive, you cant walk anymore because you have a driver license. :))
