i know that this is very expensive to run the trucks and break them like that but why cant they still sun them at this track now? the technology is way more advanced and the trucks can handle this madness now
@a5kylar unfortunately these tracks are also much too short for how fast the trucks have become i know when i was a kid and this stuff was just starting 40 or 50 mph was a huge speed for one of these they're breaking 80 and 90 now so the fairground venues are too short thats why if you see any of them its just a dirt ramp jump then another dirt ramp jump and thats it so in short you're right the trucks can handle it but now the tracks cant handle the trucks
@ripwtc91101 right but it looks like these trucks are flying at this track too and this was in the mid 90's wasnt it? and you are right this track wouldnt detroy the trucks but the trucks would destroy the track and in las vegas the world championship the max speed they get out of the one straight is near 70-75 mph but grass tracks like these with a topsoil base would turn into mud
@a5kylar hmmmm good point like i said they still run at these tracks its just not televised anymore i know they still do bloomsburg, pa every year in july but its not the same quality show like it was in the 90's
That Predator truck was probably the best it has ever been. Kind of sad now. Does anyone remember the show where they had guys dressed up as the trucks and they would talk smack to each other? Like they had someone dressed up as Taurus, Equilizer, Grave Digger and a few others. Quite funny.
@AirlinePilotZJ Kirk Dabney has actually driven a number of different trucks before and after Overkill. In the 1980s, Kirk owned/drove Blue Thunder (camaro), Mega Force, Thunder Beast (repainted Blue Thunder), and Duraliner Giant, among others. After that, he went on to drive Giant, Thunder Struck, Nitemare, USA-1 (a temporary body on Nitemare), Overkill, and now Monster Patrol.
@greenlingracing If you're losing control in trucks these big and you brake, you automatically throw the truck's center of gravity and roll it. By gunning it, they can either regain control or somewhat control where they crash... Or they just go hurtling into the crowd. Depends.
monster trucks are pretty dam hardcore in general, but when they crash, its turns into some kind of super hardcore that man kind still can not understand!!!!
The first monster truck crash in this video was from canfeild fairgrounds in canfeild ohio bucause they called rampages rampage. Gotta love canfeild fairgorunds. Give me a message if you live near here or went to one of the shows even including the truck and jeep fest and the regular canfeild fair.
seems like these trucks are going alot faster than the trucks today... maybe its just my perception or the video is being sped up, but they look way faster and crashes more intense...
@PLATINUMPOLAK Vecause these are large 4WD vehicles, as long as you have one tire grabbing, you can pull out of a rollover, or even if you dont, if you kick the rear steer at the right time, you can push the truck back over, whereas if you hit the brake pedal, you automatically loose all your momentum and will flip, to see this in evidence, look for Steve Wilke's first rollover driving USA-1.
Tom Meents began driving Monster Patrol in 1994, I'm pretty sure. Late in the 1999 season, his Monster Patrol chassis was re-bodied as Bulldozer, which he drove until early 2000, when the Goldberg truck was built.
Seriously, it takes a lot of talent to handle monstertrucks - the huge wheels act as massive springs and there is basically no stability because the center of mass is way above the ground :S
If I remember correctly, the sponsorship from the Penda Bedliner company ended after the 1996 season. The promotor that ran the events, Special Events Promotions, still runs monster truck events.
yep.. no one died in this vid.. and i dont think there has EVER been a death in monster truck racing due to a crash. have bee some serious injuries but not fatalities
PENDA is a short form of the name for the Pendaliner truck bed-liner company, which sponsored the monster truck racing series run by Special Events, from around 1991 to 1996.
heh... good Old Tropical thunder.. been a long assed time since i seen that truck... ( for any one who cares) Wayne Smozanic actaully BEAT Bigfoot in that exact race that they have to pull him off the fence in Naples. took about 3 months to rebuild the truck after that.. lotta hard work. and as far as Predater with Right Rear Troubles... Allen Pezo has always had troubles back in the 90s with rear axles!!
probably.. when Wayne Sold the truck to Doug Cole in Atlanta.. the name was changed to Blown Thunder, i think Phil now does drive Tropical Thunder, but not sure. havent been in MOnster trucks since about 96... so lol.. not sure on whom drives now adays.. but Tropical Thunder does Still exist.. but its a different team that owns it now.
Hey yeah! At first I thought those were all different angles of the same race, but the more I looked at them, they're mostly different events. Was there just something structurally wrong with that chassis?

pandydrum1 2 years ago
@niklasmich You could put them on regular lorry tyres - some of the early ones were actually driven short distances on the road.
In the UK you would need to pass the Single Vehicle Approval test and I suspect passing emissions / acceptable noise is a forlorn hope.
