  • The Velvet Rope The Best album Of the '90s? NO DOUBT!

  • @therealbrooskie Trueeeeee

  • This is without a dought her best album

  • @SuperAlibaba88 yes it is but this is the weakest song on the album. I like it but it wasn't needed. She should have put Can't Be Stopped on the album instead of having it as a hidden track

  • @liacashmere58 lolll i just recently heard `cant be stopped` cause I had the tape hahahahaha

  • @SuperAlibaba88 To be honest I had the cd for months and never knew that song was on there (smile). Just like Whoops Now on the Janet album. I miss Janet's hidden tracks

  • @SuperAlibaba88 *doubt

  • Love this song! xx

  • I love how people still talk of this album fondly like it's fresh...shows how it connected with people. Awww the days when music actually had depth, lyrically and musically.

  • I love so many of the sounds on this album, especially the ones from 0:08) - soft and smooth and sweet. Just like the lyrics. :)

  • This song and My Need is just splendid...the energy!!! this is definitely futuristic in it's composition...as a former dancer, this song is awesome!

  • The lyrics and meaning are very relevant in this day and age, years after it was written. She really captures the mood here, and the layering of the music is ingenious and beautiful.

  • 14 years and still rockin'. This album is Janet's artistic masterpiece!

  • rolling stone put this album in the top 75 all-time.....any genre :)

  • @Monopoleemunny - it is one of the best albums i've ever heard.

  • i made a beat samplin this song and EVERY time i listen to the original i say to myself "ok i'm just gonna listen to da first ten seconds and go to another video" and i NEVER can!!! damn u janet!!! lmao

  • i love this song, i play it all the time, THIS CD WAS THE BOMB back n the 90's i grew up listening to it, and empty is one of my favorites the beat is so raw and i love the words to this song, janet really put her all on this album

  • I'm so in love with this song.

  • i used to play this song constantly....love the beat....i knew what she was talkin about even tho I was only like 10 but I've never realized how ahead of her time she was.

  • @songbird143 I used to play this song and MY NEED over and over til the poor cd overheated- lol! I used to do my dance work out to it!

  • @luv4trusoulmuzik awww you're like my music soulmate lol. "My Need" was the other one I played out. "Ropeburn" was like 3rd.

  • Has to be one of the best songs on the entire album.

  • sick beat

  • Janet's best album EVER!!!

The best song on this whole album! ;D

  • I hate the counting man otherwise the song's good lol

  • @vstarr89 lol

  • love the japanese sword sounds and influences in the background.

  • i hated this cd but loved this song.

  • @thedarthflagger WOW i dont know this cd was her best ever back n 97 i disagree lol but everybody is entitled to their own opinion

  • I love Janet Jackson as she is my mother

  • this song should have been a single. Hidden gem from Ms. Jackson

  • so yeah she singing to me

  • This song is so innovative one of my favorites off my favorite cd what people fail to get it can be talking aabout a variety of things that is what makes this song so great

  • @shamyte this called breakbeat techno. it's been around for a long time. janet made it sound good.

  • this is so relevant to online dating and social networking, waaaay ahead of its time

  • @deisels i agree this song is way ahead of its time, but i dont know if social networking started back n 97 but it was very thoughtful, i like the way she formed the words

  • favorite song from Velvet Rope album, My Velvet Rope is a glass ceiling that doesen't allow advance ............. Mall Of America Camp Snoopy "" were da biatches at??????????? BOARED.

  • I'm mad this joint is about internet chatting... that's wack... I imagine it is about a women who is in love with a man who isn't emotionally dedicated to her. That's much better to me

  • SOMEONE REMIX THIS ONE. i DON'T THINK SO.

  • I love this song

  • how i feel after sex. I loe you janet. I will never have sex again not until I know for sure that person loves and cares about me.

  • This is sad on my part, but I just heard this 2 years ago and I just love one of her songs on the cd. She got it right on the internet chatting. People have got their feeling involved with someone they nevermet.

  • It's about online chatting.

  • This is by far one of the best songs on "The Velvet Rope" :)

  • thx 4 this upload...i luv this tune...

  • man... i forgot about this tune!... i need to get this album again... so many memories of my troubled youth... ;-) real music got me thru. love janet for this and thanks for posting!

  • hey do you have the download link to this song?

  • from the 1st time i played this cd for the first time back in 1997, this was my favorite song from the album. :)

  • @Xone7 Mine too... I saw Janet on the Velvet Rope tour 3 days before my birthday back in '98 and she was awesome... This song was my fave...

"When I lick my lips I can taste your smile"....... love that line...

  • janet is her best era "the velvet rope" ! this song is amazing, undeground so introspectiv and sensual ... janet is really a queen

  • Love this eclectic music! One of my favorites of hers, thanks.

  • you guys really think this song is about some internet fling? i mean.. i've always thought she was singing about depression and finding herself

  • @TheHeyyyou

the interlude to this song - lets you hear the 'connection' she makes on her computer. to log on.. in those days it was wiht the modem, remember.

    she sings:'we never met'..

at the end of the song you hear: 'damn, disconected...'.

This song of hers is soooo soothing, so pure, so magical, so uplifting.

    TIMELESS GRACE

  • @TheHeyyyou thats exactly what it's about. in the end you dont hear her say damn disconneted? and in the beginning on the cd you hear the modem dialing up. yes thats what its about. she was b4 her time.

  • Great song about online relationships..

  • love this song lol

  • this is the shit! i love this song

  • i love this song. the groove the, the lyrics, everything.

  • I love this track... I love it so much... the concept of 'empty' used to make me think lonely but now I see it like that space between things.. like consciousness.. and the song has taken on a transcendent meaning... Love this album...

  • @Jonkingx The emptiness, I believe, is the feeling she gets when she realizes that, though she has invested so much emotion in this man she's communicating with online, she gets nothing in return. She can imagine the flavor of his kiss, the assurance of his smile, his countenance, and what it would be like to be in his presence, but she cannot actuallyexperience any of these things. She's left empty from the experience because she has all this angst for the man, but can't express it.

  • Deep!

  • awesome and addictive!

  • ..Jam O the day (insane beat)

  • Velet rope was my favorite janet jackson album!!!!!!!!!

  • @MZPEACHIE1 mine 2! the best album

  • omqq i havent heard dis sonq in forevr this sonq is mad hott.!

  • this is the song that puts my 13 months old baby asleep...i swear. everytime it works...lol

  • this song was soo ahead of its time. Much more relatable to people now than it was in '97 with technology reaching everyone these days. . <3

  • @qwerty78228

It really does...Janet is always ahead of our time.

  • only song that reminds me of this is Erykah Badu's I Want U. They both have a heavy bass backbeat and the computerized chimes in this song sound like Erykahs voice in I Want U.

  • @regemo Erykah has a new album out. It like she's back.

  • Love the dial-up sound in the beginning.

  • Internet love......

  • Non ti stanchi mai di sentirlo questo disco!

  • I hear a little bit of the Together Again melody in here

  • this song is so relevant to my world right now

  • @airricksreloaded Me too :) :)

  • Are there anymore songs that have this same type of sound?

  • the only songs i know any kind of similar to this are baltimore club songs and some songs by M.I.A. the handclap and the fast paced structure is very notable in baltimore club music

  • Reminds of Michaels Keep the faith. The beat i mean

  • @Raynodius tlc - fanmail

  • I used to play this song OUT when I was a kid.

This CD and Janet KICKED ASS.

  • This was a great cd... WHAT 97/98 I played this album so many times my whole dorm got tired of this cd..

  • She should of made a video for this song!!!i was 3 when this album came out so...i only know "Got till' it's gone", "Together Again (Depper Mix)& regular, "I Get So Lonely" and "Everytime"

  • I Think this song is about an internet romance....thats what the lyrics to say to me anyway...

  • ok good i was right lol i read all the other commets haha duh

  • and u r right!

  • Such an awesome song.. Love how it all builds up, everything about it is perfect

  • i had never known what this song was about until i read these comments.

  • We all learn from each-other here on Youtube! :]

  • This is like one of my favorite songs on the velvet rope cd. Most people don't know about this song.

  • That's the way I met my bfriend

  • i have always loved this song it reminds me of the song "fanmail" by TLC the whole internet love thing. when i as younger i use to be so indulged over internet dating scene.

  • i thought i was the only one who related this song with "fanmail"....thr both badass songs n sound really....ethereal.

  • I feel this way about this young girl that I had a hidden agenda about. All though we've kicked it on a "platonic" level I rush to my e-mails after I've sent her something to see if and how she's respond. I just wrote an e-mail to her saying that I can't see her because I think I'm in love and it's making me feel sick. I hate these gay feelings :-(
