Nice vid but wheres the caboose???? and the train wasn't really heavy enough to justify a GP30 mid train helper... On level track those 3 units on the head end could pull that train without even reaching run 6 =) Sorry to be a wise ass..but I was an engineer on the SP. We ran mid train helpers on 2.5% grades
Even in HO scale I could pull this train with just 2 units on the headend on straight and level track, as shown in this vid, but what you don't see off camera are 22" radius curves the train is negotiating. Running a helper after 30cars helps guarantee no derailments or stringlining.
This was really part of an experiment for running long trains. I'm about to build a new layout featuring the Mullan Pass with a 2.2% grade. To date, my record stands at 81 cars with 5 locos. Two laps around the layout with no derailments.
Check the operations video on my Rice Lake, Dallas & Menomonie. That also lives on in HO. It originally ran from Ridgeland to Reserve, WI via Barron, Cameron & Rice Lake.

Great "mini-scene" staging. The principals seem to be frozen with fear.
Is that Wausaukee like Wausaukee, WI?

Yes, The Dunbar & Wausaukee ceased operations in 1924. For me, it lives on in HO.

Is your HO version in Wisconsin?
