  • You should review jedi knight dark forces 2.

  • I know I should. Problem is that I dunno if it'll work out properly.

  • @DWTerminator What do you think won't work out properly about it?

  • It's a Win95 game. Running those on modern hardware is a bit tricky sometimes.

  • @DWTerminator What OS do you have? I can run it on my old computer with windows xp perfectly.

  • The OS isn't the issue. My hardware's just too powerful for some older games.

  • @DWTerminator That sucks. It truly is an awesome game.

  • Oh I know it is. LucasArts never really went wrong with the whole series. I'll certainly try to get DF2 working though.

  • @DWTerminator Does dosbox cost money, and do you have to get some kind if account?

  • Free. No accounts required. Just download the software and you can use it whenever/wherever you want.

  • Tie Fighter is still the reigning best PC game of all time.

  • Lucas should give half his Star Wars earnings to Williams. His music will live for ever.

    PS. Thanks for the review.

  • Well, John Williams makes a ton off his compositions anyway... but yes, I understand what you mean.

    And you're welcome.

  • This was the first game I have ever played.

And soon after I discovered Duke Nukem 3d, Shadow Warrior, TekWar, and Redneck Rampage, etc. etc.

Thanks for bringing back the good memories :)

    Subscribed.

  • Good selection there, and glad you like it.

  • @DWTerminator Hey DWTerminator, nice review! I just downloaded the demo version and it runs on Win XP ! The only problem is that it is completely mute! When I go to the sound files it says MS-DOS Batch File and it just spawns the occassional black screen of DOS for like 1 sec.! I need DOSBOX in order to run it with sound, right?

  • Glad you liked the review, and yes, you need DOSBox to get the sound working properly.

  • @DWTerminator Thanks for the answer! Keep up the good job! I am looking forward to your Fallout 1 and 2 review especially!

  • Fair warning: the Fallout reviews will take a while.

  • @alerommel1 Download DOSBox my friend you can run anything from back in the day. Full CD, Joy and Sound support also.

  • @TangFiend Thanks for the answer! It really seems that DosBox is a very convenient way to play perfectly those old games!

  • @alerommel1 If you need help mounting it or setting it up msg me, its not really that hard but it took me a mine to figure out.

  • @TangFiend OK, If I need any help, I will ask you, thanks a lot. :)

  • Between this and Tie fighter are the two best star wars games of all time .

  • I'd say Tie Fighter and Dark Forces 2 - Jedi Knight are actually the best two, but I can see your point.

  • @DWTerminator For a Saber combat game, would you consider Jedi Outcast or Jedi Academy a better game?

  • Well, Jedi Academy has better saber combat (dual and double-bladed sabers in addition to the single hilt you see the most), but I'd say Jedi Outcast is the better game overall. Not to say JA's bad (it's more multiplayer-oriented), as both are phenomenal games.

  • @DWTerminator One more thing, would you like to see another Jedi Knight game? Or are you one of the people who thinks that the time may have passed for another game? I personally would love another JK game, With or Without Kyle! I just want to see another well done Saber combat engine! As much as I like JK II and JA, I would love to see what a newer engine and story would do for the series.

  • I know there won't be another JK game starring Kyle, but I would certainly like a game in the same style. Perhaps set in the Old Republic?

  • @DWTerminator That would be a cool way to do a Kotor3, maybe a mode with the JK style engine, or maybe the whole combat system done that way, it would be different, but fallout 3 did the same kind of thing, mixing FPS and RPG into one game, FO3 can be more defined as an RPG though. The thing that I want the most is the advance saber system however. I dont mind the way they did KOTOR 1 and 2, but this has to be fresh. Who knows, people have been speculating that Kotor 3 may not happen for cont.

  • a while, some people think it may not happen at all since the MMO is coming out. Although the saber combat animations look amazing, it doesnt seem too great. I dont think they realize that the fans dont just want the gameplay, they want an actual story; a full KOTOR experience. As you certainly know, MMO's arent usually very good when it comes to their story lines. I honestly think Lucas Arts and Bioware just stuck the title of old republic on there to make a quick buck, but who knows?

  • TOR is set 300 years after KotOR, so it's really not related to that series at all apart from the name. BioWare knows perfectly well what its fans want... but MMO's really rule the PC market anymore (dunno why).

FO3 isn't an RPG. It's a watered-down FPS with RPG elements. KotOR3 would have to be a true RPG if it were to be even close to the epicness of the first two, but it won't happen. Leave JK to JK and keep KotOR the way it is, as far as I'm concerned. Too many RPG's turn into FPS's...

  • @DWTerminator Good point, Ive just been hearing so much about TOR, and it just popped in lol!

Sorry about that, but Im glad you replied. I cant understand why BioWare'd choose to approach this this way. They must know that there has been a much lower number of MMOs getting sucess on PC lately, something that I didnt even think of above.

Anyways, do you think KOTOR3 or JK4 will happen then? I myself think KOTOR is likely, while JK4 is iffy, Might might not.

  • Not many MMO's are having success because of the evil beast known as World of Warcraft. Seems like nobody bothers playing anything else despite it being a mediocre game at best.

Both KotOR3 and JK4 are highly unlikely, but I'd actually say JK4 is the more likely of the two (of course, judging by the way FPS's are made these days, it'd be a MW2 clone set in Star Wars... -_-).

  • Great review. I just started playing this today, and it really has the feel of the old movies. I was surprised at the quality of the gameplay, graphics, and music as well...fantastic production values.

  • Glad you liked it. It's a wonderful game, and LucasArts really ruled the gaming scene throughout most of the 90's when it came to production values. Dark Forces is one of those shining jewels of movie-based gaming as a whole that really gives you the feel of being part of the movies without treading all over the canon like some of the more modern Star Wars games does (*cough*Force Unleashed*cough*).

  • lol ahh yes.. dark forces ^^ that one was banned in germany because its too brutal xD they call FPSgames "killerspiele" or killergames in the media here to demonize them

  • Germany's always had a hard time with FPS's, I know, but action games in general as well. I remember seeing Mercenaries 2 over there when I was in a GameStop in Köln and being amazed that it's 18+. It's 13+ here. Of course, you guys don't give a crap about sex/nudity/drugs/alcohol in games, while over here that's all taboo. Stupid cultural phenomena.

Sad that Dark Forces is banned though. It's truly a great game.

  • @DWTerminator

yes praise marxist liberalism lol all kinds of degeneracy are praised but a game where you fight nazis like wolfenstein 3d is banned for violence lol xD

  • Sad, isn't it? It's banned because it has Nazi images in it, not because you fight them. Ugh. That law *really* needs to get repealed, because it's WAY out of date.

  • @DWTerminator

no they wont do that. it got swastikas and these are evil lol no matter the topic of the game itself. thats why swastikas are replaced by these german black crosses like in call of duty games or other ww2 stuff

  • I'm referring to that law in general... as it's gone *way* out of hand. They've banned certain traditional religious symbols just because they've been "associated with Nazis." And let's face it, there's far more of a Nazi movement in America than there is in Germany, these days. -_-

  • @DWTerminator

america got a nazi movement? eh? you mean crazy zionist nuts which drag america in one war after another? they are kind of national socialists.. just for the sake of israel

  • Of course we have a Nazi movement here (with the same exact parameters Germany's had, actually), that's covered under our "freedom of speech" Constitutional right.

What you're referring to are simply known as "warmongers." You see, psot-Vietnam the liberals all want to stay out of every single conflict the world finds itself in, but the conservatives still think it's one of the best solutions to all our problems.

Technically Israel's the only real ally we've got in the Middle-East, too. -_-

  • @DWTerminator

you think that israel is your only real ally in the middle east?? i think you should look for "uss liberty incident" in google and youtube.

  • Ally is a relative term, good sir. Germany was allied with Russia at one point during World War 2, after all. The rest of them are either neutral, hate our guts, or make so much money off us that they really could care less. But we digress. My videos aren't about political debate. -_-

  • @DWTerminator

very true.. make a review of red orchestra xD

  • man this was a fun game. i had it for my mac and ps1 and about four years ago i bought it for my pc.

  • Yep, it was and still is fun. So good you had to get it on 3 systems, eh? ; )

  • i remember playing this when i was 5

  • It's just one of those games that dominated childhoods, like Mario and Zelda. I still play it occasionally since it's just so good.

  • Can you get ot to work without dos?

  • Well, if you've got a Windows 95 or 3.1 machine it should work, but other than that I dunno. I use DOSBox on this rig and it works perfectly, as compatibility mode really doesn't work unless it's a Windows program.

  • Nice, so this is how the JK games started? 7331!

    BTW, reg'd to your forum.

    Another good review!

  • Yep, this is the start of the JK saga. Thanks, by the way.

  • Cool.

  • It's always been a pet peeve of mine that they took Kyle Katarn and made him a Jedi. Dark Forces offered a unique approach to the Star Wars universe and regardless of how well received Jedi Knight was the fact remains it should NOT have been Dark Forces "2".

  • I personally thought Kyle was far more badass as a Jedi, but anyway...

You're entitled to your own opinion. I still say the pinnacle of the DF series was Jedi Knight.

  • never did play dark forces one, played dark forces 2 jedi knight though (and ofc the following jedi knight games (outcast and academy) all of them being impressive and fun games, perhaps i should give dark forces one a go ^^ *shrug* btw can't wait for your morrwind review... morrowind is my fav game of all time.. then again never played daggerfall :/...

  • Awesome job man. will you be doing any other reviews of the Elder Scrolls? and also will you be doing a Review on Fallout 3 made by Bethesda. and maybe the other Fallout Series?

  • Thanks...

To answer your question: yes I'll review Morrowind and Oblivion. You'll have to wait until I upgrade my PC for those though (recording video makes them unplayable on my current rig). Currently, I have no plans to review Fallout 3, nor any of the other Fallout games. I don't own any of the Fallout series (much to my dismay), and I probably won't get Fallout 3.

  • this was the first video game i ever played, this and doom II.

  • sweet reviews like always

  • Thanks man.
