I understand the point of the gundam series is to show the horrors of war, but there is another aspect to this theme this series portrays very well, which previous iterations have not. The individuals. I haven't been so enthralled by a gundam series in a while. I've only seen the first two eps. but i feel this will be a very powerful series. Please, don't overlook it!

00 isnt weak.. its just they wanna make a new storyboard for gundam. touching on aliens for example. and making the gundams in 00 very overpowered. ill admit unicorn is better than 00 but come on.. 00 is still epic.

@guyinseattle1 No this is an ova series that comes out twice a year with 3 episodes already aired out of 6. Gundam Age is a whole other tv series that's aimed at children that's gonna air this October.

But if you wanna understand Unicorn then try and watch Gundam 0079, Gundam 0080, Gundam 0083, continue watching zeta, and also ZZgundam. Now ZZ Gundam is a bit frustrating to watch for the first 20 episodes but bear through it because Unicorn has a lot to deal with ZZ and Zeta. Also try out Chars Counter Attack. There's a reason why you didn't like Seed because it sucked.

i watch almost all the gundam series, but for some reason i really like UC because the speech they come out with has very good meaning in it.....and more the gundam unicorn has the different thing than other gundam series.....the motion they have really thrilling, and the latest gundam series like seed until 00 most of them prefer the idea that newest gundam is the best unlike UC, you need skill to pilot it man, no skill no talk.
I watch all the latest gundam series ppl know most of and this is probably the best in its generation because the 1st few episode left me wanting more already. I dont remember ever watching any gundam show leaving me this entertain on the 1st few ep.

@FangNthunder I was replying to LedosKell who wanted to see a Gundam protagonist wearing a mask-and I wanted to point out that Zero and Athrun both are rather heroic figures, and the first obviously wears a mask, while the second wears Char-style shades for a bit early in Destiny, so they could be considered somewhat like Char in those respects
@000bled it's a running gag, a sort of trademark for the gundam series. Every serie (that I know of) has one. It's similar to the someone-losing-an-eye in CLAMP verse: they do it all the time, always in a different way, to amuse the fans

Dude, I suggest you watch some of the older Gundam stuff, the GOOD Gundam stuff.
It would be best to start with the original, though it has aged pretty poorly. If your willing to skip the original Check out The 08Th MS Team, Zeta, Char's Counterattack and maybe even Victory.
Don't bother with Seed or Destiny though. They were terrible.

@Grahamx227 that's why when 0079 Gundam was aired in Animax six years ago, I followed that all the way to Z and ZZ. Char and Amuro were classic rivals.
although I've watched GW, GG, and GX in local channels, plus SEED and Destiny, nothing beat stuff from UC era series.
look up the Lady and the Unicorn, a series of french tapestries from the middle ages. Unicorn Gundam is thematically based upon the story thats told in the tapestries.

For too many year's we had to wait and see the continuation of the earth federation and Zeon war! and Turn A Gundam series doesn't count....aaaargh.. pussified mobile suits!!! My eyes still bleed from watching that......
theres a destroyed Zaku II in a Museum in the first episode, and one of the later episodes will have a Zaku Cannon, Zaku I Sniper Type and Zaku Mariner.
all the other suits are Geara Dogas and Geara Zulu variations, with a few Hi-Zacks thrown in.
I found it so very different, every gundam had a base of how they look, with this they went with looking like more gundam ms team old looking ones, I would prefer how they look before than now, but as far as graphics every series gets better and it shows from 95 gundam wing to 2007 00 gundam it nuts, I do agree wished that can built gundam but of course it cause chaos..... But still:)
Arm Rakers? they only ever appeared in CCA and Sentinel, for some reason they were dropped. which is odd considering Hajime Katoki originally designed them for Sentinel and he also designed all of Unicorn's suits.

not really all that means is your loyal to the original. The newer gundams offer more drama and more action such a seed and 00. UC gundam 0080 was quite terrible and possibly one of the worst series. So yeah but i suppose its all opinion so yea. but UC are good though.

Unlike others, I really appreciate the first episode, even the Macross scene when he open his cockpit to grab the girl, it's an heroic one anyway. I just have a hard time to figure out who stand where after the first five minute and the rest of the episode, you have the feeling of the conflict, but I'm not sure if the hero will be "Earth forces" or "Spacenoid". And dont try to tell me Zeon remnent doesnt exist.
@SantomPh Humm, Char is and always was the best bad guy. But after the first episode of Unicorn you don't really see a cool character "feel" with. Gundam required a 50 episode series to be good, or 25 good and 25 bad, like 00, to be a good series, and for that you need a young hero in the Gundam, a Masked villain that isn't so bad (Le Creauset is an exception), a huge plot that might destroy mankind. So far the first episode is an introduction to the new series.
@Xradris We say that in hindsight after watching 0079,Zeta and CC knowing that Char was shifty and manipulative ,and surprised at his heroic (albeit disguised) turn as a hero in Zeta. At the time the shows were actually on TV I think the fans were probably debating whether he was a good guy or not to no end.
The narrator in this video sounds like the same guy who narrated Zeta and ZZ...is it the same I wonder.

episode 1 was some of the most intense shi# that i've ever had the privelage to watch. i'm only sorry that the writer fukui is a neoimperialist moron, but hey...the episode was still pretty cool.

@tomimn2233 It's TOO plain looking though. I basically liked SEED but it needed more originality. I was introduced to Gundam via UC years ago & while I appreciate UC having it's time line extended, I liked the AC Gundam Wing because it was truly a different style without going overboard.
The only Universal Century series I haven't watch is ZZ. So I'm kinda surprise that after WING, SEED and 00, they get back to UC. I hope for the best for that series, but I would have preferred more development from the 00 universe.
00 is still getting its movie later this summer. even though they make AU series, UC is still the main gundam timeline, it is still the most popular and is still continually developed. i wish they would dig farther along the timeline though, around the time of Crossbone Gundam or Victory.

00 was a commercial success because they made a great deal of effort aiming it towards a much wider demographic. Universal Century series have been coming out for a long time, some were good, others not so much. the raw amount of connect proves that the fans are still ravenously enthralled with UC. just look at the 1/1 Gundam, its an RX-78-2 after all. even though Unicorn aimed for the older fans, it was still explosively successful, being the top selling blue ray until EVA 2.22 came out.

Please try to give actual evidence, just saying that it's a fact will make you look uneducated. UC is better, that is true, but what makes non-UC shows suck? What about the shows that are not UC but are alternative after-stories of it? Such as X or Turn A
@soldier4670 There's way too many cliches and contrivances (for instance, I don't like how every character seems to have a love interest, and it seems like EVERY love interest is on the opposing force). The battles are too short, there's no tension, and the story goes from being basic and coherently structured, all the way to being a jumbled mess by the end of season 2 and the AWFUL concluding movie. I just find the AU series' in general, to be disappointing.
@TetraVaalBioSecurity While this is true to some extent, from the top of my head, I can only think of two love interests who are on opposite sides. (Again this is pretty much Season 2).
In my opinion, there was tension, in specific battles/scenes, though since the Gundams were originally quite overpowered and had the element of suprise, there wasn't so much.
And yes I agree with the jumbled mess, though I did quite like the structure of Season 1.

Wow..really?? I thought that Gundam00 was the one of the weakest in the Gundam Universe...This was the only Gundam series that I didn't really care to finish or miss an episode or two...and yes I've pretty much seen almost all the other Gundam shows/movies. I mean Gundam Unicorn is by far the best Gundam that has came out in the last 10 years! (not including Zeta movies which where awesome!)
@MasterxMaverick Probably because anime like Gundam Wing, Seed or 00 are made for wider audience then UC story's. For example many girls watched only 00. I started watching Gundams with Wing that I loved, now after so many years I hate Wing and I think that's the worst (next to Gundam X) Gundam series, I like Seed+Destiny and 00, but I think they aren't as great as UC animes that had more depth in the story, less "super robot" Gundams and no bishounen team for fangirsl sake.
@Yukikazehalo if Zeon isn't in it I'm not interested. I just adore what I consider the best Anti Villian Villian faction in anime history, it just doesn't feel like Gundam without the Zeons, I mean their characters made Gundam Gundam more so than the Gundam pilots and mobile suits, because they gave less evil villians and at times loved villians for the Gundams to fight.
the Laplace Incident is the terrorist attack at the beginning of episode 1 that destroyed the Laplace Colony during the UC0001 calender-change ceremony. the Laplace box contains the original charter of the Earth Federation government, which was discovered by the main character's great grandfather.

its the Original document that created the Earth Federation Government, the main political entity in UC gundam. think of it as their constitution. when the original was "supposedly" lost a new one was made, though it was missing one of the clauses,which had to do with the political power of those living in the space colonies around earth and some stuff about newtypes. the Unicorn Gundam has the La+ System, which is designed to guide the pilot to the hidden Laplace Box.
Unicorn is a series of 10 novels that are now being animated. the target audience is older gundam fans so the character designs are a bit more reminiscent of older 80's style.

I'm not familiar with the Universal Century, I started watching Gundam in the days of Gundam Wing, after that, every series took place in the Cosmic Era or something like that. Still, Unicorn looks interesting, I might get it.
Universal Century (UC) is the original gundam timeline, where most of the content takes place. Wing, along with G Gundam and Gundam X, were a trilogy of three unique series along different timelines, each separate from one another. Turn A Gundam brought the 4 previous timelines together (its complicated). CE is a new timeline to reimagine the original series for younger fans. Gundam 00 is on another timeline, sticking with our AD system. Unicorn takes place 17 years after the original series.

Gundam Unicorn is what got me into Gundam.
Before this I tried to watch SEED, and couldn't continue after 5 EP.
I also tried to watch 00, and stopped during the opening.
Right now I'm watching Zeta and enjoying it.

@000bled it's a running gag, a sort of trademark for the gundam series. Every serie (that I know of) has one. It's similar to the someone-losing-an-eye in CLAMP verse: they do it all the time, always in a different way, to amuse the fans

Dude, I suggest you watch some of the older Gundam stuff, the GOOD Gundam stuff.
It would be best to start with the original, though it has aged pretty poorly. If your willing to skip the original Check out The 08Th MS Team, Zeta, Char's Counterattack and maybe even Victory.
Don't bother with Seed or Destiny though. They were terrible.

although I've watched GW, GG, and GX in local channels, plus SEED and Destiny, nothing beat stuff from UC era series.

theres a destroyed Zaku II in a Museum in the first episode, and one of the later episodes will have a Zaku Cannon, Zaku I Sniper Type and Zaku Mariner.
all the other suits are Geara Dogas and Geara Zulu variations, with a few Hi-Zacks thrown in.

I found it so very different, every gundam had a base of how they look, with this they went with looking like more gundam ms team old looking ones, I would prefer how they look before than now, but as far as graphics every series gets better and it shows from 95 gundam wing to 2007 00 gundam it nuts, I do agree wished that can built gundam but of course it cause chaos..... But still:)

Arm Rakers? they only ever appeared in CCA and Sentinel, for some reason they were dropped. which is odd considering Hajime Katoki originally designed them for Sentinel and he also designed all of Unicorn's suits.

Unlike others, I really appreciate the first episode, even the Macross scene when he open his cockpit to grab the girl, it's an heroic one anyway. I just have a hard time to figure out who stand where after the first five minute and the rest of the episode, you have the feeling of the conflict, but I'm not sure if the hero will be "Earth forces" or "Spacenoid". And dont try to tell me Zeon remnent doesnt exist.

@SantomPh Humm, Char is and always was the best bad guy. But after the first episode of Unicorn you don't really see a cool character "feel" with. Gundam required a 50 episode series to be good, or 25 good and 25 bad, like 00, to be a good series, and for that you need a young hero in the Gundam, a Masked villain that isn't so bad (Le Creauset is an exception), a huge plot that might destroy mankind. So far the first episode is an introduction to the new series.

@Xradris We say that in hindsight after watching 0079,Zeta and CC knowing that Char was shifty and manipulative ,and surprised at his heroic (albeit disguised) turn as a hero in Zeta. At the time the shows were actually on TV I think the fans were probably debating whether he was a good guy or not to no end.
The narrator in this video sounds like the same guy who narrated Zeta and ZZ...is it the same I wonder.

Agreed. I really loved how Gundam went back to dark and edgy with Seed. But Destiny came along and screwed up really bad.
thanks to that, Cosmic Era fell hard as well, since it can't be counted as a discontinuity, it's canon.

The only Universal Century series I haven't watch is ZZ. So I'm kinda surprise that after WING, SEED and 00, they get back to UC. I hope for the best for that series, but I would have preferred more development from the 00 universe.

00 is still getting its movie later this summer. even though they make AU series, UC is still the main gundam timeline, it is still the most popular and is still continually developed. i wish they would dig farther along the timeline though, around the time of Crossbone Gundam or Victory.

00 was a commercial success because they made a great deal of effort aiming it towards a much wider demographic. Universal Century series have been coming out for a long time, some were good, others not so much. the raw amount of connect proves that the fans are still ravenously enthralled with UC. just look at the 1/1 Gundam, its an RX-78-2 after all. even though Unicorn aimed for the older fans, it was still explosively successful, being the top selling blue ray until EVA 2.22 came out.

@soldier4670 There's way too many cliches and contrivances (for instance, I don't like how every character seems to have a love interest, and it seems like EVERY love interest is on the opposing force). The battles are too short, there's no tension, and the story goes from being basic and coherently structured, all the way to being a jumbled mess by the end of season 2 and the AWFUL concluding movie. I just find the AU series' in general, to be disappointing.

@TetraVaalBioSecurity While this is true to some extent, from the top of my head, I can only think of two love interests who are on opposite sides. (Again this is pretty much Season 2).
In my opinion, there was tension, in specific battles/scenes, though since the Gundams were originally quite overpowered and had the element of suprise, there wasn't so much.
And yes I agree with the jumbled mess, though I did quite like the structure of Season 1.

Wow..really?? I thought that Gundam00 was the one of the weakest in the Gundam Universe...This was the only Gundam series that I didn't really care to finish or miss an episode or two...and yes I've pretty much seen almost all the other Gundam shows/movies. I mean Gundam Unicorn is by far the best Gundam that has came out in the last 10 years! (not including Zeta movies which where awesome!)

I started watching Gundams with Wing that I loved, now after so many years I hate Wing and I think that's the worst (next to Gundam X) Gundam series, I like Seed+Destiny and 00, but I think they aren't as great as UC animes that had more depth in the story, less "super robot" Gundams and no bishounen team for fangirsl sake.

the Laplace Incident is the terrorist attack at the beginning of episode 1 that destroyed the Laplace Colony during the UC0001 calender-change ceremony. the Laplace box contains the original charter of the Earth Federation government, which was discovered by the main character's great grandfather.

its the Original document that created the Earth Federation Government, the main political entity in UC gundam. think of it as their constitution. when the original was "supposedly" lost a new one was made, though it was missing one of the clauses,which had to do with the political power of those living in the space colonies around earth and some stuff about newtypes. the Unicorn Gundam has the La+ System, which is designed to guide the pilot to the hidden Laplace Box.

Unicorn is a series of 10 novels that are now being animated. the target audience is older gundam fans so the character designs are a bit more reminiscent of older 80's style.

I'm not familiar with the Universal Century, I started watching Gundam in the days of Gundam Wing, after that, every series took place in the Cosmic Era or something like that. Universal Century (UC) is the original gundam timeline, where most of the content takes place. Wing, along with G Gundam and Gundam X, were a trilogy of three unique series along different timelines, each separate from one another. Turn A Gundam brought the 4 previous timelines together (its complicated). CE is a new timeline to reimagine the original series for younger fans. Gundam 00 is on another timeline, sticking with our AD system. Unicorn takes place 17 years after the original series.
