  • A pretty good rendition of a very difficult piece, but you still have a bit to go... The slow part lacks the necessary emotion, and there are just too many split/missed notes in there for a higher grade. Good effort though!

This sonata was certainly written with B-flat trumpet in mind, and specifically for B-flat. The low concert F at the opening of the work isn't technically available on the C trumpet. I managed around that by having the third valve slide extending all the way for the entire opening section and utilizing false fingerings.

My only reason for this was that I was much more comfortable with my C trumpet at that moment in my life. I had a rather yucky b-flat.

  • very nicely done!

I was wondering though; wasn't this written originally for Bb (someone correct me if I'm wrong) ? Are you playing on a C merely out of convenience?

    Thanks for the kind words!

  • nice low notes......not.

  • @bugleboy499

would you mind making a video demonstrating what a "nice" low f sounds like on c trumpet?

oops. nevermind, you're obviously not a trumpet player

  • @brownishleaf I second that....guy's a loser.

  • my biggest trouble with this piece is endurance. I can barely make it through the 1st mvt, let alone the whole piece

  • Very nice on C trumpet. Extremely difficut piece but it can be done. Main thing I would spend time with is rhythm and phrasing. Runs will come with time but rhythm is a bitch to unlearn if learned wrong then to re learn them correctly. This is a nice rendition.

  • Oooh a C trumpet, sweeeet

so im auditioning with this for the all new england high school festival, any tips on the second page? Up to speed I've been having an extremely hard time

  • @Simon675

    One Word: WOODSHED.

I'm doing this one for a festival, too and for college auditions.

Slam the valves down when you play through it. Go slow, then increase the tempo when you can play it perfectly 100 TIMES. Happy trumpeting! :)

  • This is a horrendously difficult piece. I am playing the piano for a recital that includes this piece, on Sunday, the 19th. It is so hard to keep with trumpet. The writing is awkward, but it is all worth the work. Great job, by the way.

  • Thanks for the information! Good luck with yout performance on Sunday! By the way, I have an audition for a youth orchestra, any advice on nerves? Thanks again!

  • Really enjoyable! Is this a hard piece?

    Great job again!
