Awful recording, but so be it. I remember this song as the theme for the Red Skelton show, but not for Garry Moore's show. Oh, well - still brings back good memories
After starting as an arranger for NBC Radio in Chicago, he moved to Hollywood in 1928. Mutual is supposed to have forced Rose to cut his orchestra back to just a string section to save costs, leading him to focus on writing for strings. The climax of this period was his 1944 hit, "Holiday for Strings," or as we all know and love it, "that shopping song." "Holiday for Strings" was used as the theme song for the Garry Moore and Red Skelton shows.

A beautiful tune created and arranged by a genius. I was lucky enough to meet Mr.Rose's widow back in 2008 and
I told her how much I admire her husband's work.

Even better are Rose's remakes for
MGM and in the late 60's for Capitol.

I like Spike Jones' version of this song (and so did David Rose, interestingly enough!).

and what a song, this has been used as the theme song to many of my fall-time parties.
