  • I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus.

  • I've just been thrown out of a church for posting a verse from The Bible. That is so satisfying. I'm having a very enlightened day! I’m inviting everyone to join me and stand firm against the tyranny of a very sick and twisted church, the United Church of "Christ" in Alden, Iowa. Matthew 34: 45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ 46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

  • I LOVE THIS COMMERCIAL! This is what church is supposed to be about-welcoming God, and letting you know that God welcomes you at this church. We started attending because we thought we'd try it out after the commercials. It's true, they are all welcoming and walk the talk. Try one in your area.

  • fucking bullshit

  • i am so sick and tired of these conserative fundemendalist christians acting as if they know all the answers, half the time you dont even know the question.and stop quoting paul and quote jesus ,iam not interested in what paul said

  • i'm a christian, and i think this is wonderful. when jesus died on the cross, he didn't make exclusions to who he was saving. he preached kindness and acceptance. :)

  • of course they accept anyone, western religions are more about business than anything else and you cant turn away money.

  • i get so tired of these conserative fundamentalst whack jobs who think they know what god thinks, you dont have a clue.judge not least ye be judged

  • UCC denies the scriptures & the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ - their cult is dying so they've decided to invite anyone to their services in order to somehow (FAIL) sustain their pathetic existence (or what's left of it). UCC is dead - they don't preach the gospel therefore no one wants to go except those that are perishing.

  • @ElCubanoConguero

If we are dying how did more than 32,000 people join in 2010?? Just check the annual report on the UCC website. If your church put an add on tv displaying their beliefs do you think it would honestly increase attendance? Or would most people see you as rude and judgmental?

  • @ElCubanoConguero Don't think so. You have your facts all wrong. UCC's membership is growing by leaps and bounds while pentacostal intolerent churches are sinking by the boat load. People are getting the message that Christ's message was one of acceptance--not hate and dogma of the Catholic and Protestant faiths. This is a great church--and Obama belongs to it. How do you know they don't preach the gospel--ever gone? Doubt it Asta la wega Senor Hate Man.

  • @windstorm1000 YES we all know that UCC is a cult that denies the resurrection and does NOT believe in the scripture. And you are a fool lost in your sins. Jesus said NARROW is the way that leads to life and FEW find it. That's NOT acceptance, that's TRUTH. Jesus said BROAD is the way to destruction and HELL and MANY go that way. If you read the bible instead of reading magazines & watching Oprah you would learn and repent. Wake up and accept Christ as your Savior or be cast into hell forever.

  • In the future, the right will check your voting receipt to make sure you vote republican before they let you in.

  • “There is neither male nor female, there is no Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave nor free, you are all one in Christ.” (Galatians 3:28) God loves everyone equally and does not discriminate. ucc.org

  • this is my church and I am proud to be a Christian and a member of the UCC. GOD BLESS THE UCC!!!

  • Great Commercial! Thanks for it!

  • ...and to finish my thoughts, no followers of a religion should be lead into thinking that their beliefs are real. The words "faith" and "belief" are about things that are not proven! That's why you have faith (you don't really know), or why you believe (it's a theory). And please, stopping turning God into a human being! We are human beings because we live here on earth and simply evolve this way due to gravity, weather, and a need to thrive... God is something else alltogether.

  • There are many ways for any religion to behave badly, practicing bigotry is simply one. Creating the impression that God is an elderly white hair Jewish male is another. Hiding the Book of Mary is another. Not explaining the roots of English Christianity (how Christianity was strictly Vatican ruled, until a married King Henry VIII wanted another woman, Anne Boleyn, but the Vatican refuse the annulment, leading to the end of Roman Catholic rule of the Church of England in 1534), etc, etc, etc.

  • Poop

  • True, Jesus didn't turn people away. But that pesky Christ made demands of people, and that is something you never have to worry about the UCC doing.

  • Love without conditions Transforms. Love with conditions is not Love, but a Lie.

  • A church must hate lesbianism, homosexuality, adultery, fornication, and all kinds of sins. Yes, Jesus loves the sinners but He did not allow them to stay in their sins. They delivered them from those sins. I hope the UCCP will live out to the standards of the Scripture by abhorring immorality and wickedness as clearly stated in the Scripture. The apostle Paul is clear that women and men exchange natural relationships with unnatural relationship to their perversion. (Rom. 1:26-27)

  • I like this one and i'm pickey about commercials good job UCC!!

  • I love this commercial!! Awesome denomination! I love the Episcopal Church too. ;)

  • Homosexuality is totally okay...as long as it's between two women, apparently.

  • NO CHURCH DOES THAT!!!!! they are exaggerating. i know gay people that goe to my church and its not this church

  • @MrEthanator75 I admire your grasp of the metaphorical.

If a church spends half it's time railing against how and who you love, how welcoming can it really be?

  • @MrEthanator75 Yet most churches spend an inordinate amount of time sifting the sheep from the goats, as they define them. That behavior is by definition discrimination. The ad is hyperbole, but it tells a truth about the core nature of all religion.

  • I love this commercial! I haven't been to church in years because of all the judgmental attitudes, and the fact that it seems Republicans have taken over religion all to themselves. I wanted to find a church where I could meet new people, worship God, and leave all the judging to God. I think I might check out the UCC nearest me.

  • @arielgirl You can find a church near you at UCC.org and click on 'find a church'. As the most Christ-focused of Christian churches, the United Church of Christ welcomes all of God's children and does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, sexual orientation, etc.

  • It's good that they emphasize welcoming all people, very good, but apparently they have some doctrinal issues, so that's too bad. Why can't churches be open and non affirming? Why must we feel the need to celebrate sins so that no one's feelings are hurt? The truth hurts, and tough love is a part of true Christian fellowship.

  • @janeym Just a suggestion, you could cram your tough love up your bum sideways. No one is forcing you to go to a UCC. Hugs!

  • I think this ad is nice, but I'm not sure if the United Church of Christ actually believes in the core teachings of the early church, which after all wrote down everything we now claim to know about Jesus. The UCC for example doesnt believe that the unborn have a right to life. That means that they have leftist blinders on, accepting gays for example because they are human beings and deserve equality but rejecting the unborn as being human beings.

  • @jjmcoates I was raised in the UCC....I've decided to come back "home" I tried the right and it drove me crazy. In every sense of the word God is not hateful in this church.

I happen to be straight and have never had an abortion

  • umm... I'd rather go to the club :)

  • I thought there would be more...disappointed...hahahahaha!

    lol

  • nice!

  • This commercial discriminated against black, latino, and old people.

  • what about aliens from outer space? are they also welcome?

  • @TaxEvasion yup

  • 1 Corinthians 11:27-29 (ESV)

27 Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. 28 Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.

  • The problem I have with this is that it is portraying a false image and they are Bearing False Witness by claiming that Orthodox Christian denominations are turning people away, the fact is the doors are always open and no one is being turned away. Non Christian cults are not Christian, If you reject Jesus Christ as lord and savior and the New Testament then you are just exploiting the word of the Lord. Some seem to be more about filling the pews than about peoples eternal salvation.

  • @MClover420 oh shut up would you. it isnt about power over other churches and money or whatever you think its about. it's about acceptance, something that you neanderthals don't seem to understand.

  • Those people are the ones exploiting the word of the Lord for personal gain and money.

  • im in this commercial!

  • I love this commercial!

  • @mike2915 So do I and I am attending for the first time today.

  • I think the video speaks loud and clear and is a welcome sight and sound for all to see and hear. The message is a good and kind one indeed.

  • hahaha everyone at my local UCC works for a living too, buddy

  • THIS was denied and Janet's titty was aloowed? Wake up CBS, everyone sees through your bullshit. CBS is a right-wing, money hungry corporate monster.

  • I can't believe this was denied and Tebow's whiny ad is getting through.

  • That and a gay dating service ad was denied this year as well.

  • You've seen the ad already?

  • Nope, just read an interview with Tebow and his mother.

I'm like, dude, you're not even in the NFL yet.

  • I was raised UCC.... have to say I'm darned proud of it seeing these ads. Can't imagine them being "controversial". It's ridiculous.

  • ly1228 and others criticizing the Focus on the Family commercial featuring Tim Tebow: Please come back here after the commercial airs and share your informed opinions about it. I anticipate that you'll find yourself actually *enjoying* it. :-)

  • What an offensive ad. To somehow say that because I pastor a church that isn't UCC we have "Bouncers" outside keep people out. I cannot believe this is an actual UCC ad and not a parody of liberal Christianity!!!

  • If the shoe fits.

  • I bet Jesus was a liberal!! Because from what I have heard he didn't turn away ANYONE!! Like many other churches did and DO!! Don't kid.. Let's be serious!

  • UCC Ad: Other churches keep out disabled people. We're better Christians than other churches.

Tebow Ad: My mom didn't abort me, and I'm kind of happy about that.

Yeah, these two ads are exactly the same thing....

  • UCC Ad: Jesus didn't reject people, and we don't either.

Tebow Ad: Let women who may choose to have an abortion for medical reasons die or go to jail.

  • awesome commercial too bad CBS didnt allow it to air .

  • focus on the family is gonna run an ad this year saying to keep your baby even if it might kill you fuck this gay country

  • But didn't Jesus preach not just to his belivers but to the tax-collectors and the prostitutes? You can't just invite only those who believe or else it is a worthless action. you need to let all hear God's word. And surely the pharisee thought that Jesus was defying Biblical teachings with his words and actions. I don't believe that the bible is just a book it's a living word that can change and adapt to reach all in the world.

  • Pfft. Corruption is (and has) already (been) widespread in churches. that the problem with institutionalized religion (lulz, Inquisition, anyone?). Also, Christianity is pretty much as mainstream of a religion as you can get.

Plenty of people who sin and lie about it still go to church. The "Kingdom of Heaven" is the exclusive place. Isn't is a bit arrogant of humans to JUDGE other people and deny them the Word? There are atheists out there who make better Christians than actual "Christians".

  • @neoconscottp

Oh God, not MAINSTREAM. We can't let Christianity become MAINSTREAM! How will Christians still be cool and hip?!

  • It is not saying real bouncers but have you ever been to a church that you felt like you didnt fit in? noone talked to you? they said bad things about you? they didn't want the guy that kives on teh street that smells like urine because he has no place to go with out getting in trouble & no place to shower? This happens n serveral churches and people do nothing about it. They r saying they will not do that. I have been 2 many churched that I was not excepted because I was not wearing the > thing

  • Do churches really have bouncers?

  • ... They suuuuuuure do.

  • cool

  • Comment removed

  • If you claim this commercial is "leftist", then you must believe acceptance is a "leftist" value. Otherwise, what basis does your claim have? Do only leftist churches accept gays?

  • @Falcon91Wolvrn03

There is a difference between loving all people regardless of their sins, and just ignoring what is right and wrong in the name of "tolerance."

  • I'm not a Christian, but I and many other atheists have acknowledged that this ad is positive and sends a good message. It does not portray the bible as an answer to all of your worries (like that stupid book of Mormon ad that I always laugh my ASS off at) but rather as something that is there for you if you want to come take a look at it no matter who you are.

  • HA ! ! They must have been to some of the non-denominational churches in San Diego.

  • NO CHURCH AT ALL.

  • cool.

  • cool.

  • fuck yeah
