this is definately sung live, sounds completely different to the cd, the only thing that'll be playback is the instruments because some studios simply cant facilitate the sound sytems etc, and it takes hours to sound check and get all the instruments in balance with each other.

not playing their instruments is not a sign of "cheating" or "Being crap" it just goes that way sometimes.
