@TanCoyer It's a fact that the Mayan calendar ends sometime between 2011 and 2013 - but I don't believe it means it's the end of the world - it's simply the end of one long count cycle and the beginning of another. Tablets were discovered amongst the temples giving dates of events further into the future of the end of the long count calendar. Therefore the end of the long count calendar is simply like the end of a century in the Gregorian one - we went from 2000 to 2001 and are still here.

Some say 28 October 2011 as it is 13 Ahau; some say 21 December 2012 simply because it is 13.0.0.0.0 and 4 Ahau and is the Winter/Summer Solstice (depending on which hemisphere you reside); and some say it is 16 December 2013 which is also 13 Ahau and makes it past 13.0.0.0.0 to 13.0.0.1.0 - a bit like the fact that 2001 is the real beginning of the 21st century as we started at 1AD (there was no 0AD) so 2000 was not the real beginning .
