A lot of armchair quarterbacks chiming in from the comfort of their vantage point... I don't know the statistics, but many, many people (I think most, but I don't have the numbers) would not be able to look someone in the eye and take their life. And unless you're a psychopath, no one can do it without sorrow and remorse afterward. I commend Mr. Hoover for having the ability to do what needed to be done. I hope he can find peace in the fact that he was not only justified, he was right.

As they taught in my Concealed Carry class "The police are not liable for your safety".... "if they don't show up in time and you get killed, it's just too bad..." Which is better, you in a body bag and a robber walking the streets, or the robber in the body bag and you safe and sound... Good ridance... They must teach these newscasters in whatever community college they attended to automatically act shocked when a homeowner isn't going to be charged for killing an intruder. It's probably on day one of Communications 101. This is probably one of the clearest examples of justifiable homicide ever, with the lengthy 911 tape an the repeated requests for the guy to leave.

@2LightaManonFire It was from a movie or a book some years back. It generally means a communist or socialist government. I grew up in NJ, where its best to think is to automatically assume that everything is illegal, unless proven otherwise. Gun permits, registration, ammo and magazine restrictions. Waste of money because you still cant get near a major city without getting robbed or shot. I think Camden is now the murder capitol of the US. Gun control has never worked and never will..

I know the Hoovers well enough to know that shooting this man was the last thing he wanted to do. He is a church going man, very quiet but well spoken also. He feels bad for it looking back, but at that given moment with so much at stake he had to do what he needed to protect his family. He tried to prevent it but then the guy took it one step too far.... So, not saying "way to go for shooting a violent drunk", but way to go for doing what you needed to do to protect your family.

@srcccd6 you can tell by the way he was trying to just get him to leave that he didnt want to hurt him, but you have to do what is necessary to protect yourself. i am an ex police officer that was also forced to use my weapon. mr. hoover will never see past this until he knows that he did not do this. it was all in the other guys hands. he did what he needed to do to protect himself and his wife. my heart goes out to him. god bless

The title of this video is wrong. This man was not ELDERLY. Look on YouTube for the whole video. He was a younger man with a wife, two kids and his mother in law in the home.

They were in the house in the middle of the night when a crazy drunk guy started screaming at them. The guy begged the intruder to go away, he didn't want to hurt him. The nut broke through the sliding glass patio door and the man had to shoot.
