same deal with american sports - they are watered down versions of real games....baseball = cricket but with a bloody glove, whats wrong cant catch with your hands? gridiron = rugby but with pads, whats wrong boys worried you might get hurt? top prize goes to the yank with no sense of humour and the nagging realisation that im right. cheers!
baseball is a world sport, you cant compare cricket and baseball, totally different games, totally different rules...
same with american football and rugby. different games.
Baseball is widely popular all over the world. Soccer and Baseball are the huge world sports. Cricket is nothing like baseball, only similarity is hitting a ball, and catching a ball...
Cricket is as widely popular as baseball mate, you forget that it's India's national sport and they have a population of about a billion. Baseball is popular in the US and Japan. Where else?
Cuba. Venezuala. Colombia. Puerto Rico. Holland. Australia. Dominican Republic. South Korea. Italy. Australia.
Of course it depends on the definition of popular, but I'd say baseball is more widely popular if by widely you mean numbers of countries rather than numbers of fans (and possibly even then, although the number of people in India _might_ weigh in favour of cricket, I suppose).
You listed Austrailia twice, where cricket is massive. You've got South Africa, India, Pakistan, the West Indies, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and England. In all of these countries it is the major summer sport. I was just annoyed the guy said cricket wasn't widely popular all over the world, when it clearly is. Nothing against baseball, which is obviously popular as well.
In 1887 Spalding guide in america named it "World championship Series" assuming the likes of "Australia and Great Britain" would soon play and "become rivals"...none have, because the British invented this for kids to pitch ball, swing bat and run around bases, it aint for grown ups. Its very popular among girls who have leagues.
I was arguing with some guy from Canada last night, that sincerely thought that baseball players should be able to play with out gloves, simply b/c cricket players can.
@cdcarpenter16 hahahah....yes you are pathetic, much like your sports that no one else plays and then you crown your selves "world champions"....america is like a large retarded kid that everyone else lets play with himself in the playground.
@pervyboy69 ha dumbass think again. baseball is the second most played sport next to soccer..and soccer is more manly than cricket or whatever the fuck that bitchass sport is
I'm having trouble with finding the players name and origin of this play can someone help me? It was a play in 1972 by some team vs. some team, but Im not sure?
Here's a question. Let's say hypothetically an outfielder had time to open the bullpen door and catch a ball well beyond the fence. Would it still be ruled an out? I know it's physically impossible given the timing of the play, but just for the sake of argument, how would they rule it? I would bet there are ballparks that have ground rules for such situations.
I am pretty sure that that was a home run, but maybe not. I am not sure, maybe rules are different or umps were so amazed they didn't even consider taking it away
How was it a home run? He reached over the fence and caught it. It happens all the time in the big leagues where guys reach over and rob homers.
It's how high this guy leaped (actually standing on top of the fence) that makes this one so amazing. But as long as the ball doesn't touch anything beyond the yellow line before landing in the fielder's mitt, it's a definite out.
This is BY FAR the most amazing catch ever at any level btw!
That wasnt a out, thats a home run. He was standing out of play waiting for the ball. You can only jump out and still make a out if you jump out catch the ball and still have momentum. You cant stand in the stands or out of play for the ball.
Why are all the great catches videos showing Japan? I mean really, America has a million great plays. Recently in the LLWS there was a 12 year old jumping and catching a ball preventing a walkoff!
Wow,he's like a ninja or spiderman. Some people doesn't realize how hard this catch is.The point is that he stood for a second at the top and caught the ball. With that running and climbing speed,it should be really hard to stay at the top of that thinny fence. Many MLB and NPB outfielders will fall over the otherside or won't climb on their foot.He also climbed that fence in two steps. He sure has great balance.

Baseball players use gloves for the same reason the wicket keeper does. They handle hard-hit balls a lot more often than cricket fielders do.
Besides, it just makes it a different dynamic to the game.
Baseball is the game rounders always should have been. :)
For the record, I'm English, living in England, I love cricket, and I play baseball.
